Options Brian Turner: Playlist from December 19, 2017 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

That old freak-out fuzzy sludge psychedelia!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm karlward:

That Wei Zhongle track just dropped the horn riff from OutKast SpottieOttieDopaliscious. Where did that riff originate?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@TDK60: ...after 'MyGeneration' & 'AreYouExperienced?' - but *before* the Stooges or Sabbath...in fact it stands as unique...
  4:12pm canada:

@karlward I was wondering the same thing...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm BronwynB:

hello brian and everyone! thanks for the sparks live number!!
Avatar 4:16pm TDK60:

Yes, RRN63: Also sludgy psych (with blues) and from the same area, was Big Brother & the Holding Company's 2nd album, Cheap Thrills. Janis Joplin on voc. (Their first LP was more garagey-mod-psych.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Passaic River Blues:

@Canada & Karlward: the internet suggests the riff may have been lifted and retooled from Genesis' "Dancing with the Moonlit Knight".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@TDK60: Yes - the Cheer was SanFranciscan - if considered the rude stepchild there, so to speak
...& I think DickiePeterson's bears some comparison to Janis...& Roky...high praise...JulianCope always a Cheer champion...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Dickie's *voice...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm blee:

Sounds like the Frogs too, minus content about all things natural.
Avatar 5:09pm CDToaster:

FMU used to play this album when it was first released and I used to dig it back then. 50 years later, Scott Fagan came to my studio where we remastered this album from my brand new vinyl to CD. Five years later, it finally saw its official release which I hope you're playing now. When I was 14 and listened to this song in '67, I never knew Charlotte Amalie was the capitol of the U.S. Virgin Islands where I eventually moved. Small, small world. Scott Fagan stayed with me for almost a week while we did the transfer and remaster. It was a blast!

When the seductive tones of Barry White just won't do.
Avatar 5:38pm CDToaster:

@Brian: Yes indeed I see you played the Saint Cecilia Knows re-issue. They did an absolutely fantastic remastering job using the ORIGINAL RECORDING TAPE! Scott was literally glowing when it came out. He's still living where he was born on St. Thomas. For 10 years I lived practically next door to him on St. Croix. Yeah, that reissue is amazing. Thanks for playing it, Brian. Haven't heard it in a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm blee:

Sodom - Surfin Bird. YESSSSSSSS!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm paul b:

I heard notes of the Bad Brains in this Aragorn song, But I see they were likely contemporaries & on separate continents
  5:45pm Marie:

Lovin this vom
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...actually reminds me of some the tones in the 'Iron Butterfly Theme' - whilst speaking of the morphing of Psych into ProtoMetal...

Hey Brian, ever heard any of the band "No Shields"? Kinda like this, very good, from Brooklyn...
Avatar 5:49pm Brian Turner:

No! There's No Balls, No Sister, No Shields...... haha
  5:53pm Marie:

Right! And let's not fought, there is a feminine protection product called Shield. I am sure the band is not referring to that!
