A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am annie:

yay, i made it!! good morning dale and trouble! and melinda!
  9:02am Jason:

Fantastic Plastic Machine!? Wow, that brings back memories. Thanks!
Avatar 9:02am Wild Neil:

Peace all. I dropped out of art school (Syracuse U.) and Architecture School (Cooper Union) and I think I have pretty good taste. I REALLY love this painting/drawing because it is almost abstract in many ways but it is figurative. I dislike about 90% of the art I see anymore, but I love stuff that tries to be figurative. Have a good Pearl Harbor day folks.
Avatar 9:03am Wild Neil:

Now I am a mechanical engineer who draws with his son a bit....

Avatar 9:16am Trouble:

Avatar 9:19am dale:

and how DO you spell his name? i see it all different ways.
"non ne me dis pas adieu" from his 68 record on philips is brilliant. and of course the stuff he did with the faces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am The Oscar:

Slammed with work this morning, but popping in to say hi! Anyone ever see the Liam Neeson-style Hong Kong revenge thriller Johnny Hallyday starred in maybe ten years ago?
  9:24am Adrian in London:

@TheOscar No. sounds... interesting. He was great in L'Homme du Train.
Avatar 9:25am Papayo:

K Leimer is a good musician and savant his project with Robert Carlberg

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am steveo:

This plant journey is great Trouble; I've never heard this. I also thought of you when I heard about Hallyday.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am Webhamster Henry:

Hi Trouble!
  9:38am AZDave:

I heard the sad news about Johnny from an unexpected quarter -- Becky during last night's show. Have been awaiting your tribute ever since, Trouble.

Avatar 9:39am northguineahills:

You're leaving us in suspense, who's today's (visual) artist?
  9:40am queems:

gilmore girls didn't age well. it's terrible to rewatch it today
  9:40am Peter in SEA:

Watched the 1st Ep of Mrs. Maisel last night! Pretty good so far! Don't tell too much! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am melinda:

I didn't get why the Gilmore Girls was so popular.
Avatar 9:40am Shagalov:

Miss you @Trouble, to listen online! ♡
Avatar 9:40am Papayo:

and hello from spain :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am melinda:

I like the art.
  9:42am mistercaz:

where did you first see the phrase "suck it and see?"
Avatar 9:42am Trouble:

artist today is charles e burchfield. he has a small show up at montclair museum, about his weather paintings: magical.
Avatar 9:43am northguineahills:

Thanks Trouble!
Avatar 9:44am northguineahills:

I had a friend who abhorred pop culture but for some reason was gaga over the gilmore girls.
Avatar 9:44am dale:

burchfield art center is on elmwood in buffalo!
  9:44am queems:

i keep meaning to go to the montclair art museum. my boyfriend lives a couple blocks away
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am melinda:

I like Burchfield but would not have guessed this was his. A friend of mine also reported that the Montclair show was great.
  9:46am mistercaz:

"suck it & see" was a graffiti phrase on the walls of the tenement in the film Clockwork Orange. (Kubrick).
dystopian urban-ish or..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am melinda:

The one bit of Gilmore Girls I saw seemed like it was trying to hard to make the characters seem clever, conversing in a way people don't in real life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am steveo:

i should definitely buy a trombone. interesting mistercaz; looks like you stumped us :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am steveo:

I really like this ; from dave nelson's bandcamp: "Another set of improvised music using trombone and analog pedals. Each track is a first take improvisation that starts simply and develops organically into a fully realized composition. This is the first music ever recorded in my studio in upstate New York. Inspired by West African music and classical minimalism, these pieces stretch out and develop a little more slowly than previous works for a more expansive and trance-like feel."
Avatar 9:53am Sem Chumbo:

Hello, and bom dia, Trouble, and Modern Worlders, from the now-sunny and warm shores of the mighty Bay of Fundy.
Avatar 9:54am Sem Chumbo:

Persuasive love talk should always be accompanied by soulful flute playing. NB: current spin.
Avatar 9:55am Trouble:

bom dia sem chumbo. I love saying bom dia. much better than good morning.
Avatar 10:01am βrian:

I'd fancy Mr Burchfield had more than one mushroom met.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Itzall Ablurr:

Bomb the day to you then, Trouble. and oh why whiskey, why?... (late night paying the cost this morning)

If your out in Brooklyn come by

Oh and speaking of art and brooklyn , the Ahmed Mater and Richard Longo work at Brooklyn Museum of art is perception altering. Both of them are a kilt “scale”in their own ways
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Greg from ZONE 5:

  10:04am kevlicki:

Whoops, it’s Robert Longo, excuse my tired face. I was up late listening to Wake and Bake
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am melinda:

Burchfield paintings are kinda trippy, but from what I remember reading in his journals I got the impression he was trying desperately to capture feelings he got from his environment without psychedelic enhancement.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am steveo:

play some off youtube?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Itzall Ablurr:

Dear βrian, haha. Yeah. But both are so delicious... at first.
Avatar 10:08am Wild Neil:

Interesting how he makes the night real black right around the moon.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Itzall Ablurr:

Hah! Not to mention the oft used "Big In Japan" trope. Another cultural "filter" for, well, everything is "The South". Form groups and discuss.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am steveo:

buffalo is about 40 hours by bicycle, but you can take the erie canal path
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Itzall Ablurr:

Dear Trouble, in my opinion you are not talking enough. Your dulcet tones seem to be soothing my throbbin' noggin' this a.m. AND the music too.
Avatar 10:13am Sem Chumbo:

@βrian: I am reminded by @10:03 of a line from Rescue Me. Dennis Leary has parked illegally and a cop is giving him a ticket. Leary, drunk---it's season 1 or 2---checks the cop's name tag, and sees the man is Jewish. Things get heated, Leary invokes 9/11 and firemen, and the cop stops him right there: "You know the difference between Jewish guilt and Irish guilt?" he asks. Leary shakes his head.

  10:15am Stevel:

Home, alone, working later. It's a great luxury to have uninterrupted Trouble. Deciding whether or not to rake leaves in our first dusting of snow in Fort Wayne. Might need another cup and/or smoke to figure it out.

Talk all you want, but the selections are right on, this morning.
Avatar 10:18am Wild Neil:

@Stevel-you could do what I did. Get a Stihl (or Husqvarna) leaf shredder vac, make tons of eco friendly mulch for your flower beds, garden and compost heap. Its free! The Shredder Vac runs about $200 from your local Stihl dealer. Don't get one from Home Depot, you get better service from a real dealer.

Avatar 10:24am Wild Neil:

Kubrick was a very gifted photographer who became a very gifted perfectionisitic workaholic director.
  10:25am Brendan:

Hi Trouble ... re: weather and painting...... after the big Krakatoa eruption in 1883, skies and notably , sunsets were dramatically affected for a number of years. The Royal Society has a collection of sunset paintings before and after almost daily spanning a number of years and its a cool record of how the world was altered. It is thought that one of these sunsets inspired Munch’s ‘The Scream’
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am melinda:

I like old hip hop that raps to the beat.
  10:27am Stevel:

Wild Neil: That's a great idea, especially since I live in town. The city actually picks up leaves, twice over the season, and composts them for use by the parks department. Still, I lack soil additives. I also have some space for a controlled compost set up. I've considered this design. For under $100, I should probably just buy one.

  10:28am Stevel:

That's one ugly URL.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am adampsyche:

the story of krakatoa is one of the most amazing books i've ever read. you could hear the blast 3k miles away!
