Popular and esoteric musics strung together with improvisational referential psuedononymous monologues that sit underneath field recordings made by the bastard son of Lomax, Giorno and Joyce giving you a finely tailored soundtrack to your life.

Afternoon, Thatcher, Doug, and all!

Ah Air.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Doug Schulkind:

I will be writing a term paper during this broadcast, so turn it UP!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Webhamster Henry:

I guess you've been alerted!

Hi all!
Avatar 12:23pm Brian in UK:

Hello Thatcher.

Privy - an outside toilet.
Avatar 12:25pm northguineahills:

I privy your privy.
Avatar 12:28pm Brian in UK:

I like loathsome too.

Newspaper for toilet paper. Mind you, that is what are best used for.

River Irwell has improved no end.
Avatar 12:29pm northguineahills:

Not much has figuratively changed for Mancunians.
Avatar 12:31pm northguineahills:

I don't have roaches, i have 7cm palmetto bugs that get into my house, and they fly, and smell like sulfur when you smash them.
Avatar 12:33pm Brian in UK:

I prefer Brahms.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Webhamster Henry:

I like patter songs, many of them are lists. How about songs based on listicles?
Avatar 12:37pm still b/p:

"I've been everywhere, man..."
(New-to-me trivia: that song originally listed Aussie towns!)
Avatar 12:38pm Thatchmo:

apiarist: That might be right!

Good thing profanity is allowed, otherwise I'd be on my way to Gitmo!

Don't be a drop out, Doug! It's cool to stay in school.

I need to change my diaper. Is it Richard Pryor's birthday today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Webhamster Henry:

You'll probably like the lists that are over on Radio Boredcast stream: Twitch by Kenny G, most everything by Michael Ruby (who hates Kenny G, BTW), and some of those supercuts from youtube, like all Robin's "Holys" from the 1966 BATMAN.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Webhamster Henry:

I'm a big fan of Angela Carter stories.
Avatar 12:59pm Thatchmo:

She is wonderfully wordy
Avatar 1:03pm northguineahills:

Hitting lunch in a bit, thanks Thatchmo!
Avatar 1:04pm Thatchmo:

Thank you!

"What is there to be thankful for: Charlie's gone" Tim Foljahn 11/23/17
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Rich in Washington:

Charlie We Hardly Knew Ye.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Rich in Washington:

Charlie's (then) imminent death finally prompted me to buy a proper vinyl copy of the infamous LIES album. It's on its way after the slow-as-molasses dealer finally mailed it. Maybe he was hoping to double its price or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Rich in Washington:

Charlie's sort of losing it within the course of this song.
Avatar 1:20pm Thatchmo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Rich in Washington:

There's at least on pre-Tate/La Bianca interview recording with him where he sounds really sedate, almost normal. He was in full on Jesus/Messiah/Guru mode. It's interesting to hear. I don't know the full source, but ran across it when doing a show on the 40th anniversary of the death of the Summer of Love™
Avatar 1:24pm still b/p:

One of the articles on Charlie's death speculated that if he'd been executed and didn't show up occasionally in images and interviews to extend his stint as the still-living, "crazy Charlie" Epitome of Evil, he might've been mostly forgotten.
I say that's bullshit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Webhamster Henry:

the Billboard changed yesterday to a Clay Pigeon billboard
  1:25pm queems:

they just changed the billboard anyway
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Rich in Washington:

I think if he'd been executed back in the day, the then militant left would've elevated him into some kind of martyr or he'd be embraced more fully as a counterculture hero. I think letting him jabber on to anyone listening sort of disabused anyone of the the notion of him being an egalitarian peacenik.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Rich in Washington:

I also think Manson's embracing of ecological stuff was sort of disingenuous. He often said he just wanted to go live in the desert and be left alone but I don't think he'd survive a minute without someone taking care of him, either his hippy harem or a prison cook.
Avatar 1:33pm Thatchmo:

Neil Young said Charlie would sit on Dennis Wilson's porch and sing improvisationally in rhyme for hours: that seems to indicat some great level of intellectual functioning.
Avatar 1:51pm still b/p:

If only they had put LL Cool J on Lucky Charms boxes...
Avatar 1:54pm Thatchmo:

That's a nice tie-in ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Rich in Washington:

I don't remember if it was Neil or Terry Melchior, but the consensus was that Charlie, like a lot of self-taught outsider musicians, could improvise great songs and melodies which he couldn't reproduce on demand, in a studio, etc., so it sort of hindered his viability from any commercial standpoint.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Rich in Washington:

I remember Dennis Cooper's contribution to those wonderful Freeway Records spoken word compilations in the 80s. That was sort of my introduction to him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Rich in Washington:

I have a pharmacist friend who thinks his ruddy, bloated complexion is due to him abusing Viagra or other ED medications.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Probably some 40 year old Dexies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Rich in Washington:

You know, with his junk food diet, sugary drinks, the aforementioned prescription drugs, he's probably going to go up to the podium someday and do a full on Bud Dwyer without the need for a revolver.
Like that poor guy from Scanners. BAM!
Avatar 2:13pm Thatchmo:

Fingers Crossed!
Avatar 2:13pm still b/p:

I think a few guys should put on matching blazers and do some acapella busking with Rotten Cocksucker's Ball in a holiday shopping area.

hee hee...
Avatar 2:30pm geezerette:

ewwww, blech!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Rich in Washington:

I bought this record from a rummage sale for 25 cents when I was a young kid and was sort of mortified by the language.
Avatar 2:33pm Thatchmo:

For good reason! And released by Warner Bros. if I remember correctly ...
Avatar 2:33pm Thatchmo:

or Reprise?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm KevinfromBayRidge:

My Big Hit with a Bullet at age 16!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Actually heard this Zappa) uncensored on a "below 92" FM station in NYC in the early '70s. Guess they figured that FCC wasn't monitoring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Rich in Washington:

I am pretty sure it was Warner Bros. I remember because everything on that LP's jacket was written by hand in what looked like pencil. I thought that was pretty funny for some reason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Rich in Washington:

Nope. My bad. It was Bizarre/Reprise. I coulda sworn I remember reading Warner Bros. on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Rich in Washington:

Speaking of Illuminazis, according to Cathy O'Brien, Boxcar Willie is a pedophilic shapeshifting lizard person.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Rich in Washington:

her Trance: Formation of America is probably one of the silliest books I've ever read all the way through.
Avatar 2:59pm geezerette:

Great fill-in, thanks Thatcher!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Rich in Washington:

This was a great show! Thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you so much!
Avatar 3:07pm Thatchmo:

I've read David Icke, so I know about Boxcar Willie too.
Thank for tuning in everyone.
I'll be back next week to shuck the same jive: Friday 12/8 at noon on the GTDS stream.

I remain forever your humble servant,
DJ Salinger
