Greetings fellow YipYips, Joe..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04am pantz:

So long, Mr Cassidy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04am Brian in UK:

Hey Joe, this writer is still being updated (getting older that is)
Avatar 9:05am βrian:

You can't grouse about the Partridge Family!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am Ken From Hyde Park:

Good morning. I bid you Yip Yip!
Avatar 9:05am Cheri Pi:

Good morning Yippers

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am Guido from Cologne:

Good morning Joe!

Hearing the Yip Yips always makes me smile.
Avatar 9:07am glenn:

the partridge family makes me quail.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am Brian in UK:

@Joe "So much wasted time" were these really David Cassidy's last words?
Avatar 9:07am Davee:

GM Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am dale:

he's riding the big bus now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am Krys O.:

Loved the TV show and the music. R.I.P. David Cassidy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am NotARealDoctor:

Good morning, Joe! Good morning, everyone! I hope everyone had as great a weekend as I did!
  9:08am jess:

@Brian yes
  9:09am fredr:

Reliving our childhood here! My wife thanks you Joe.
Avatar 9:09am Sem Chumbo:

I like to think the Partridge Family bus was the Pranksters "Further" repainted to make it wholesome.

Hello, Joe, McGaskoes, the Surface Noise-curious.
Avatar 9:09am glenn:

i honestly can't believe david cassidy gets more love than gord downie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am dale:

i always had to laugh at how they would be 'performing' on the show and you hear strings and horn sections that are no where to be seen. television was a real suspension of disbelief.
Avatar 9:09am βrian:

But Susan Dey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am NotARealDoctor:

Man I remember watching reruns of The Partridge Family with mom and dad when I was a kid. We used to all sing along when they would sing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am Mike Sin:

"Lay it on the Line" -- my favorite Partridge Family track.... March 1972 -- I was up in the blue seats at Madison Square Garden at a riotous (of screaming 14-year-old girls) David Cassidy concert. Opening act = Tony Orlando and Dawn. My first time at a concert and my first time to MSG.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am dale:

the tragically hip really were just a canadian thing glenn. you never hear teenage head on this station either.
Avatar 9:11am Sem Chumbo:

Oh, yeah @βrian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am Brian in UK:

@Sem still processing that thought. Not that I know the Partridge Family.
Avatar 9:12am Sem Chumbo:

Teenage Head! Now you're talking @dale.
Avatar 9:13am glenn:

i'd put the hip up against any band, even ween.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am pantz:

I wonder if Paul Williams wrote any of the Partridge Family gems. They sure have his sound.
Avatar 9:13am Sem Chumbo:

@BiUK: here's the bus: www.cmongethappy.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am dale:

disgusteen is a fantastic song!

Sem I see what you are driving at.
  9:17am Schnipp:

Can you say “Sunshine Pop”?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Brian in UK:

I remember Dennis Hopper driving one like a lunatic (is there any other role) in the film Out of the Blue.
Avatar 9:18am glenn:

anyway, there's a big gord downie mural in buffalo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am Ken From Hyde Park:

@glenn - How 'bout them Argos?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am dale:

yeah, all my wny friends were bummed on fb.
Avatar 9:20am glenn:

one of the weirdest grey cup games yet, and that's saying something.
Avatar 9:20am Eelanus:

Nah, the Hip arent as good as Ween, but theyre good - Gord was an excellent front-man. And surprisingly, he was a huge GBV fan, and has covered them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am pantz:

Gord died a month ago and people are still talking about him. I'm not sure Bowie got as much buzz after he died. The Hip were a thing, but North of the border.
Avatar 9:23am Eelanus:

Yeah, he was Canada's songwriting legend for sure.
Avatar 9:23am V Priceless:

hi Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am dale:

you guys know the northern pikes?
Avatar 9:24am Eelanus:

Avatar 9:25am glenn:

yep. from saskatoon.
Avatar 9:25am glenn:

at least, i think.
Avatar 9:25am Sem:

BiUK @ 9:17 perhaps he was channeling the U-bus driver of the Pranksters, another Cassady, Neal. Electric Kool-aid Acid Test caught the whole mayhemic show that was Kerouac's muse.
Avatar 9:26am Eelanus:

They were, yep. Teenland was a good song. So was She Aint Pretty
Avatar 9:26am glenn:

she ain't pretty, she just looks that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am dale:

one of the guys from pikes gave my wife's girlfriend herpes back in the 80s.
  9:26am davefromtoronto:

omg that's awful.
Avatar 9:27am glenn:

canada gives and gives and gives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am dale:

ha ha!!
Avatar 9:27am glenn:

  9:27am davefromtoronto:

the tune not the herpes comment.

well, that too...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am dale:

i miss party game.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am pantz:

Give me the Schmenge Brothers, any day.
Avatar 9:28am glenn:

on reflection, the northern pikes are very smithereenish.
Avatar 9:29am Joe McG:

Hey everybody, hope you're having a good Monday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am steveo:

wow wow just getting here; will listen to this set tonight with my family...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am dale:

my wife knows the guys from no means no - they stayed at her parent's house when they came to buffalo to play a show at the continental (i think it was the continental).
  9:32am Ewe Alone:

Thank you Joe McG. This set brings back fond memories of my sisters and I sharing Tiger Beat magazines loaded with David Cassidy pics.. and fighting over who gets to hang up the giant fold-out poster of him in our bedrooms :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am Ken From Hyde Park:

Feeling good, mostly (sore throat). I don't feel very cyber-y, though. Sitting down and watching QVC for a while should fix that right up.
Avatar 9:32am Eelanus:

oh man. No means No are fantastic - My guy got to open up for them years ago once. Super great band
  9:33am Schnipp:

Past 24 hours on FMU I’ve heard more partridge family than in my entire life. And I am old.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am Ken From Hyde Park:

Did Bonaduce record anything after The Partridge Family?
  9:37am BnowB:

It is emotional when our beloved musicals who graced our hearts pass away. RIP David Cassidy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am dale:

don't think so, but ricky segall had an album called 'ricky segall and the segalls'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am dale:

bobby sherman was on a few times.
Avatar 9:39am Lixiviated Life:

please tell me you're planning on playing at least 1 Cowsills song. PLEASE
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am dale:

bobby sherman is really a horrible singer. he just had the hair.
Avatar 9:39am βrian:

I'd rather have a Partridge Bus lunch box.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Brian in UK:

Post-it Note. LIVE
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am dale:

'three ring binder'
'book cover'
no. 2 ticonderoga'
'lunch ticket'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am The Oscar:

I've spent much of my life in record stores, and I never noticed that about the album titles. My mind is blown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am The Oscar:

Also recently caught a PF rerun recently in one of my favorite '60s/'70s TV episode genres: the main characters meet a "wacky" underground newspaper reporter/editor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Brian in UK:

A Mercury Rev Song?
Avatar 9:44am Davee:

I enjoyed the tribute Joe, it brought back a lot of memories!
Avatar 9:44am βrian:

I think post-it notes weren't really around yet.
Avatar 9:45am Davee:

How about electric pencil sharpeners?
Avatar 9:45am Joe McG:

@Brian: Good ear! Yes, they opened their Monty Hall show with this one. The new LP is all covers by people like Yes, Dylan, and Mink deVille.
Avatar 9:46am Joe McG:

@Davee: Glad you enjoyed it! It felt good to hear some songs. Hope anyone who hates the Partridges made it through intact.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am annie:

sorry to be so late.... i should have stayed in instead of going down for coffee...
Swag For Life Member 9:52am Mikey_B:

All hits so far, as usual.
Avatar 9:54am Joe McG:

@Mikey: I try to get to all the favorites. :) @annie: Many partridges were in the pear tree while you were away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am TristaC.HerLadyCaveBrat:

tuned in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am annie:

i see that... maybe i'll hit that part up later for a dash of schmaltz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am SeanG:

hi Trista! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am pantz:

WFMU is one of the only places that pumpkin spice is not added this month.
  10:01am Brendan:

@Joe @People, hi. Nice song

Avatar 10:08am Itzall Ablurr:

'Morning Joe, 'morning good people of the air and cybersphere. Great set this morning, as per usual. BTW, what exactly IS "car wash hair"? Inquiring "minds"...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am steveo:

i pictured the long felt-like strips that wiggle around and suds up the car as it goes through the wash
Avatar 10:10am Peter 64t:

Oh man! that Cut Worms sure sounds nice
Avatar 10:12am Itzall Ablurr:

steveo, that sounds plausible, and probably quite relaxing!
  10:12am Dennis Diken:

howdy Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Brian in UK:

Joe too late for Fall in Philadelphia. This is a great debut album.
Avatar 10:13am Itzall Ablurr:

Wasn't "hole Oates" Daryll's petname for his "partner"?!?
  10:13am Brendan:

Tragic ballads with bizarre deaths are the best
  10:17am queems:

great show today, joe! excellent autumn driving music!
Avatar 10:18am Joe McG:

@queems: Wow, I couldn't strive for anything better. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am melinda:

Great set.
  10:19am queems:

you're very welcome! thank you!!
  10:19am Schnipp:

You mean the Grass Roots recorded something other than Live for Today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am ChrisB.:

Wow, first few bars of this Grass Roots, thought it was a John Doe solo outing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Krys O.:

Oh, the Grass Roots had a really deep catalog. So good.
  10:20am Dennis Diken:

"I Can't Help But Wonder, Elizabeth" - wow, one of my favorite tunes ever. PF Slaon's (the writer) version (same basic track as Grass Roots) is even more soulful. great nonetheless!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am TristaC.HerLadyCaveBrat:

Yay! Thanks Joe!
Avatar 10:21am Joe McG:

@Dennis: P.F. Sloan was such a great writer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am steveo:

love the bendy guitar
Avatar 10:26am βrian:

That sounds like something Gumby would play.
  10:27am Schnipp:

What was donkey’s name?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am Brian in UK:

Joe used to have Raised On Records by P.F. Sloan, came out around '72. Where is it now?
Avatar 10:28am βrian:

Pokey the pony?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am Brian in UK:

Think it never has come out on CD.
  10:31am Brendan:

Tarnation was one ofYosemite Sam’s cusswords
Avatar 10:31am Joe McG:

@Brian: I think it's in your shed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am coelacanth∅:

good morning Joe and all
Avatar 10:32am Davee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Brian in UK:

Joe, I can remember the day I bought it, on the way home my motorcycle ran out of petrol and I had to push it with the record under my jacket to the nearest petrol station. It survived.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am melinda:

Good covers aren't a disappointment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am medson:

Hey Joe. Been tuned in no chance to comment. A little late but thanks for the David Cassidy tribute. I agree what you said about the show being part of your childhood. One of my favs was when Danny was being chased by the Mob. "Vic Tayback"
  10:37am rw:

The vocalist on that Tarnation track reminded me at moments of Phil Ochs with her vibrato.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Greg from ZONE 5:

Hmm. Probably either Fakebook or Fuckbook.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am pantz:

Under The Covers with Susanna Hoffs and Matthew Sweet is a great cover album.
Avatar 10:38am Joe McG:

@medson: A great one! I generally loved the interaction between Ruben Kincaid and Danny Partridge. @Greg: Excellent choices! @pantz: Agree, I like the first one a lot. @melinda: You're so right!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am The Oscar:

Call me crazy, but I actually kind of loved the covers album Danzig put out a couple years back. Some of it was just dumb hard rock covers, but the oldies he does are pretty great, and he opens with a couple of obscure biker movie themes which are legitimately fantastic.
Avatar 10:40am Joe McG:

Surfer Blood has a covers album in our new bin right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am melinda:

I like Fakebook too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am The Oscar:

Speaking of covers, Combustible Edison does a great version of this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Uncle Michael:

Joe, this has been an outstanding show, even by your normally sky-high standard.
Avatar 10:43am Joe McG:

Thanks so much, Uncle Michael! @Oscar: I like the Senor Coconut album of Kraftwerk covers even though it's silly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am dale:

love this orbison with it's chord progressions - it's like a cheery 'it's over'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am Uncle Michael:

Senior Coconut's "Showroom Dummies" outshines the original!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am dale:

sounds of mods working the cowsills vibe very hard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am Hughie Considine:

@RW, that's Paula Frazer, who did a fine vocal on Cornershop's "Good to Be on the Road Back Home Again." Haunting voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am pantz:

This has a Free Design feel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am pantz:

Avatar 10:49am βrian:

Buenos días, Tio Miguel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am steveo:

@steveo: Whatever it is, it sounds amazing!

  11:01am fdny john:

oh man! the jags! saw em at bottom line in like 78 i think. great pop song.
Avatar 11:01am βrian:

@SueA: Most definitely!

You couldn't write a better imitation Costello song if you tried.
Avatar 11:01am Henry:

@Sue... nailed it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Greg from ZONE 5:

Writing your number on people: Another lost art replaced by the smartphone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am The Oscar:

Oh man, I think I have this on some comp or another (maybe one of the Rhino DIY albums?). You could make a pretty great album of just fake Elvis Costellos.
Avatar 11:02am Itzall Ablurr:

Any Trouble.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Brian in UK:

They still stamp you hand at small gigs over here.
Avatar 11:03am βrian:

Then there's writing the number in mirror script on one's back.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am pantz:

Reality Blipcrotch?! Was he a Charles Dickens character?
Avatar 11:27am Joe McG:

@pantz: If Dickens had written in 1969, he would've been there!
  11:32am Mark in Toronto:

@Glenn: CN Tower was an amazing single. They did a nice live set once on CFNY that i still own the cassette of. Syrinx were good - didn't they provide the theme to a CTV show?
