Good evening all :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm fleep:

Congrats NJ and greetings Irene &c
  9:13pm Bruce S.:

This track is called for at this time. Music made me think of time and space. Beautiful haunting voice of Julien Baker and lyrics of love surprised me- A wonderful work to kick off the show. Hi Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15pm Irene Trudel:

Hi redkayak, fleep and Bruce S. Glad you're here to settle in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm Uncle Michael:

Laura...just the best., that's all
  9:18pm Bruce S.:

Thanks- Laura N. is timeless!
  9:41pm middlebun:

Alright Irene, I saw Laura Nyro at Fillmore east and the opening act was...wait for it...Miles Davis. She played a grand piano unaccompanied, after THAT. Best concert I have ever seen.
Avatar 9:43pm Number Six:

Good Evening, Irene & All!
Avatar 9:44pm Number Six:

@fleep: Congrats NJ? Did Slenderman win?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm fleep:

" Mr. Murphy favors raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour, legalizing marijuana and creating tougher gun laws."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm Uncle Michael:

Robert Plant has had such a great second act.
Avatar 9:54pm Number Six:

...and raising taxes on homeowners just to throw more money @ a broken public education system. I have no children & just love having my money stolen to pay for everyone else's wayward sperm.
Avatar 10:00pm tuner fish:

this reminds me of fiery furnaces "paw paw tree"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm fleep:

Sorry to disappoint you, then. We have no children either and gladly pay property taxes, for 30 years. Because.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm Scraps deSelby:

h’lo hey
  10:02pm Bruce S.:

Hi Number 6- Is a broken public education system a tune I've missed. It's not fair to Irene and other listeners. Sorry!
  10:04pm Dean:

Wayward Sperm -- cool name for a band. Who, by the way, isn't somebody's wayward sperm?
Avatar 10:05pm Number Six:

Ooh! Triggered much! ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm fleep:

No. Thinking of others much?
Avatar 10:07pm tuner fish:

everybody's somebody's wayward sperm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm Tommy in Neversink:

Big wins in NJ and VA for dems !!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm Scraps:

And who isn’t somebody else’s taxes for somebody else’s Special Interests?
  10:09pm Dean:

Everybody's also somebody's random ovum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm redkayak:

I haven't checked news tonight - head buried in report writing
  10:13pm Dean:

I, for one, can't wait until everybody is some algorithm's fine-tuned output.
  10:16pm Peter in Dover:

That transition to classical took me by surprise, as I've has problems with a CT public station taking over WFMU's wavelength.

very nice set, this is the first time I've heard your program. Keep it up.
Avatar 10:16pm Number Six:

@Dean: Good one! I guess Random Ovum would open for Wayward Sperm?
  10:17pm Dean:

@Number Six: Some of the time, yes. Other times, who could guess?
  10:18pm listening out there:

Enjoying the music, as usual!
Avatar 10:21pm Number Six:

@Dean: I guess it would depend on when the show was scheduled.
Avatar 10:22pm tuner fish:

this is great! never heard this collaboration!
  10:23pm ?:

Wow, neat. I'm going to have to re-listen to this album again. This doesn't include the fart song does it?
  10:24pm Dean:

Yes, "Our Song" is the fart/poop/belch song.
  10:27pm formerly ?:

Too bad it didn't get Top 40 AM radio airplay back in the day. A novelty hit for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm Irene Trudel:

Nice to have you here, Peter! Catching people by surprise is something WFMU specializes in. ?, I actually skipped it at the top of the Geesin/Waters album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm Scraps:

The one story that’s surprising to me, redkayak — in a good way — is the Virginia governor race. Polls had it tightening, to fivethirtyeight had all polls said around three point Democrat lead. With 97% counted, Northam, the Dem candidate, is leading by eight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm Scraps:

Nate Silver sez: “To bring the point home a bit, Democrats have won — or are leading in — literally every race that Daily Kos Elections decided to highlight on its scoreboard tonight, except the 45th state Senate District in Washington state, where polls are still open. Some of those wins are by large margins, and some are narrow — but it’s a pretty comprehensive sweep so far.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm joe mulligan:

always an excellent show Irene! thanks for another great one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm redkayak:

This *is* nice....
  10:45pm Robert Mitchell:

Nice show, Irene. Thank you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Ken From Hyde Park:

We're half-way to the 2018 mid-terms. That is something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Tommy in Neversink:

I"m listening on 90.1
  10:59pm melinda:

My family is from west Texas so I knew the correct pronunciation for Balmorhea but the alternate is funny.
Avatar 11:03pm david_:

  11:04pm melinda:

Good news about the elections. I hadn't been following.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, melinda, I had been pronouncing Balmorhea with the emPHsis on the "REE-uh" but now have the correct pronunciation fully fixed in my brain.

I'm interested in how these elections will spin out over time. Would be nice to see a shift toward something more rational.
Avatar 11:21pm Number Six:

This Haco track is really nice. Is this new?
Avatar 11:23pm Number Six:

Sounded like a Origa sample at the end of it.
Avatar 11:23pm Number Six:

Sounded like an Origa sample at the end of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm Irene Trudel:

Yes it is, Number Six. Quite lovely throughout: room40.bandcamp.com...
Avatar 11:28pm Number Six:

Thanks, Irene! And MUCH agreement with you on the wish for more rationality.
  11:30pm Dean:

I dunno, but _wishing_ for more rationality seems kinda...irrational.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm Irene Trudel:

It's probably a lost cause, Dean. But one can hope.
  11:35pm Dean:

Nope. Never has been a lost cause. Never.
  11:36pm Andrew:

How do you know it was an Origa sample? Yes, it sounded plausible, but I didn't see it from following the link and I gather that Haco samples her own voice.
  11:37pm Andrew:

By the way, lovely show, Irene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Andrew!
Avatar 11:43pm Number Six:

@Andrew: This is the first time I've ever heard Haco so I don't know who she samples. However, it definitely sounded like a sample of Origa's "Inner Light".
  11:55pm Andrew:

Haco: “Qoosui” is a coined word from me. Originally, it’s from one of the titles of this album’s songs, “Kusui”, which is written words in Japanese (with two ‘kanji’ characters) by Hidekazu Imashige. I just changed the spelling “ku” to “qoo”, which sounds the same. “Qoo” means ‘air’ or ’emptiness’, and “sui” means ‘clearness’ or ‘water’.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks for tuning in tonight! Catch up with you next week, with a live set by Paper Daggers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm Irene Trudel:

Ah, thanks for the explanation, Andrew. 'Nite all!
  11:57pm Andrew:

Thanks, Number Six, I will have to go back and check. I am familiar only with Origa's album "Era of Queens" and a few random other songs.
Avatar 11:59pm Number Six:

Andrew, it's from the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex soundtrack.
Avatar 12:00am coelacanth∅:

well i totally missed the show but i like this last track and i really really like the painting
Avatar 8:07am Sean in Bristol UK:

Awesome show, Irene, your choice of music continues to blow me away
