Ridgewood Radio features concert recordings by adventurous bands and experimental musicians and restored archival tapes from private and institutional collections captured at venues large and small across the five boroughs of New York. It is produced by David Weinstein and Outpost Artists Resources operating out of the Ridgewood section of Queens, NY, where you'll find more yellow bricks than on the road to Oz and the cemetery of your choice is never more than a few blocks from home.

Hi David and all!

And drjazz! And all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Webhamster Henry:

Yeah Classics!

Avatar 3:12pm fred:

@Henry: I guess you're the one with glasses biking in the front row, not the one blow drying his beard (which is somewhat disappointing)
  3:12pm mrwiggles:

first timer, how do I listen?
Avatar 3:13pm weinstein:

Hit the pop-up tag!

Avatar 3:17pm fred:

I love Jaap Blonk. I don't get why Phil Minton is held in such higher esteem in my regular circle
  3:17pm Friendly Ghost:

Hello Weinstein... and happy halloween to all
Avatar 3:18pm weinstein:

Well, mrwiggles, i guess you found mrblonk. Welcome!
Avatar 3:19pm weinstein:

@Fred. Just a guess, but there is a bias against the "clowny" aspect of Dutch performance, which is undeniable, but often well integrated, as with Blonk.
Avatar 3:20pm northguineahills:

I've never heard anyone prefer Phil over Jaap.
Avatar 3:20pm weinstein:

Ah, that Ghost again. Timely appearance. Well, a day late.
Avatar 3:21pm weinstein:

No, sorry Ghostie. Today is the actually All Hallow's day yes?
  3:24pm Friendly Ghost:

will the real wikipedia entry please stand up
  3:24pm Friendly Ghost:

David were you at this JB performance? Can you shed any additional light on what's happening?
Avatar 3:26pm weinstein:

This fellow is extremely animated, body follow voice and vice versa. He is all over the place, like a rubber doll.
Avatar 3:29pm fred:

@David: there is probably some truth to that. I think Minton is often too predictable, though I saw great performances of him with Audrey Chen (I think she pushes/challenges him out of his comfort zone)
Avatar 3:38pm fred:

@ngh: Instants Chavirés regulars (and staff) overwhelmingly prefer Minton. I'm an outlier there

Hello David (& Ruth?). I'm here & happy to be listening.
Avatar 3:42pm weinstein:

We aim for happiness, steveo, with a touch of spice.

@fred I'm the one waving the smallest rainbow flags. They were out of the big ones! (The perplexed may have to read to today's 100% Whatever playlist comments to know what I'm talking about)
Avatar 3:44pm fred:

I'll miss next week's show: Lea Bertucci is playing in Paris. I loved the show I saw last year, so I'm not going to miss that
Avatar 3:47pm weinstein:

Cool. Say hello. Lea has played here several times at Outpost.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm steveo:

Spice or spookiness? ... Next Wednesday I'm excited to be seeing Colleen in Brooklyn. I'll still be here for Ridgewood, though, because time zones.
Avatar 4:01pm weinstein:

You mean time zones between Brooklyn and Queens? Or because we move clocks this week?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm steveo:

Oh, um, I just mean because I'm not in France and you're not on at 8pm in nyc.
Avatar 4:14pm northguineahills:

I know Lea, although I haven't seen her in almost two years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm steveo:

That'd be funny if Queens was a different time zone; the guy in the bodega on Wyckoff who claimed the border goes through the center of his store might become confused, however.

Wish I had been out there for this performance... Hoping to attend some of Ende Tymes.
Avatar 4:16pm weinstein:

Yes! End Tymes is here at Outpost Nov. 10-13 and we will record! But come!
Avatar 4:16pm northguineahills:

Yes, the border does go through right at Wycoff for a few blocks.
  4:17pm Friendly Ghost:

speaking of time zones, RIP Muhal Richard Abrams. When DW and I interviewed him at the Clocktower, if I remember correctly, he said:

"There is time and then there is no-time. Which are you asking about specifically?"
Avatar 4:18pm weinstein:

Avatar 4:21pm fred:

I usually dislike performances involving words, but I like this one
Avatar 4:21pm northguineahills:

Whaaaat!, not Muhal Richard Abrams!!!!
Avatar 4:26pm weinstein:

Fred, I understand. And this was strong, and smart, and Ruth really liked it.
  4:30pm Friendly Ghost:

i loved that piece!!
  4:32pm mrwiggles:

Thanks all (Jeremy here in secret), Deanna really rode the tide that night, the performance felt super organic and we had a great time!
  4:32pm mrwiggles:

Thanks David for posting and Ruth and Che for hosting! :)
-greetz from Montreal.
  4:34pm mrwiggles:

(*and yeah, such a shame about Muhal) -> when I used to work for Patricia & William Parker to make the Vision Festival happen between 2009-2011 we gave Muhal a Lifetime Achievement award, and he played one of the most incredibly powerful / intimate yet grand, solo performances I've ever seen.
Avatar 4:35pm weinstein:

Ah, the pieces come together. Well, we enjoyed the duo too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm coelacanth∅:

ngh - i said "others"!
Avatar 4:43pm fred:

@ngh: I can understand that you no longer feel like "people" includes you now that you're in Florida, but he greeted "others" too
Avatar 4:46pm fred:

@coel: oops, sorry
Avatar 4:51pm weinstein:

Just because Friendly Ghost mentioned it and it is, I think, a unique interview (with music!) here is Jake Nussbaum and me attempting to wrangle Muhal, George Lewis, and Roscoe M: clocktower.org...
Avatar 4:53pm northguineahills:

am I others? I'm more of exo-others.
Avatar 4:55pm northguineahills:

I was afraid clocktower.org was a Jehovah's Witnesses site, but then I remember their magazine is the watchtower.
