So, "New Girl in School" - I don't know exactly who wrote it, but of the three or four covers I've heard of it, my absolute fave is the version Alex Chilton did on his "A Man Called Destruction" from 1995. Also of note on that album, "What's Your Sign, Girl?" Brilliant.
Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/18/17 9:24pm Jinx:

A white Panasonic ball radio was used as a prop on Vinyl on HBO.

  Wed. 10/18/17 9:24pm Dennis Diken:

"New Girl In School" was written by Jan Berry, Roger Christian, Brian Wilson, and Bob Norberg. b side of Jan & Dean's "Dead Man's Curve" released Feb '64. great show Evan!

Oh wow, haven't heard this song (Rolene) since the early '80s - and probably not the last time I'll say that about a track during this show!

Kraftwerk! Yesssss!

I don't think I've heard the original Kraftwerk before, just its sampled form. Nice!

Trans-Europe Express charted at #67, and it's weird how it's like on the edge of memory, clearly got some KROQ play in the day ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 10/18/17 9:32pm Quasi Mojo:

@medson yes, that one too
Avatar Wed. 10/18/17 9:35pm Number Six:

@fleep: Kraftwerk got a lot of airplay on the old WNEW in the NY area at the time thanks to Allison Steele.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 10/18/17 9:39pm melinda:

My mom asked who the group was when Kraftwerk was on and when I told her she thought I said Crapworth. We had some laughs.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 10/18/17 9:41pm Quasi Mojo:

Signed, sealed, delivered was on the I'm In You album which pretty much cemented Frampton as a teeny bopper flash in the pan, despite some good tunes on the album.
  Wed. 10/18/17 9:44pm lkrasner:

One of those rare occasions where a 7" is probably a better value than it's corresponding LP...

Avatar Wed. 10/18/17 10:14pm Dave in SoDak:

lkrasner, in around '73-ish, the big AM station in town was throwing out free 7"'s at a drive-in burger joint called the Barrel. I showed up on my Schwinn and picked up a freebie - "Big Star "Big Star" with the B-side being "Big Star" instrumental - no vocals. In 1984 my klepto college roommate stole it...

I was hoping you were still listening, john!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 10/18/17 10:57pm melinda:

@medson haha. The fonz was huge back then, as were tube socks, so it makes sense.
  Wed. 10/18/17 10:57pm john:

If I weren't, my Horslips spidey sense would have tuned me back in. 1977 green vinyl, too!

yup!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/18/17 10:59pm karankeeone:

Not a bad version by ernie graham, but the Thin Lizzy version is a bit heavier I feel. Great song!
  Wed. 10/18/17 11:00pm john:

They loved their green vinyl (though The Man Who Built America came in yellow). Best of all was the shamrock-shaped green single for Loneliness.
