Ridgewood Radio features concert recordings by adventurous bands and experimental musicians and restored archival tapes from private and institutional collections captured at venues large and small across the five boroughs of New York. It is produced by David Weinstein and Outpost Artists Resources operating out of the Ridgewood section of Queens, NY, where you'll find more yellow bricks than on the road to Oz and the cemetery of your choice is never more than a few blocks from home.

Good afternoon David, Ruth, and listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm listener james from westwood:

w00t! Four hours! Welcome, Ridgewoodians and all!
Avatar 3:01pm weinstein:

Hello Fred, 4 hours today!
Avatar 3:02pm weinstein:

Yeah James, Kenzo is on hiatus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Webhamster Henry:

I guess in honor of singles going steady week, you could play some of those under 30 second Zorn and Dr. Nerve pieces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Stanley:

Those pesky Mouse Boys are in the house again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm listener james from westwood:

4'33" definitely fits on a 45!
Avatar 3:04pm geezerette:

Hi, David, Ruth, citizens. This is an Olympic event!
Avatar 3:05pm geezerette:

Does hiatus have side effects?
Avatar 3:09pm weinstein:

The Mouse Boys are like a minute, and a show of 30 second pieces would be worth tackling. But this one has sets up to an hour. Enjoy!
Avatar 3:10pm fred:

@Henry: did you go to CRAIVE already?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm doctorjazz:

Hi David and you all out there in FMU land.
Avatar 3:13pm weinstein:

Doctor, welcome always.
Avatar 3:14pm weinstein:

Didn't some band recently post a silent track on SoundCLoud or something and had a zillion hits and then got banned?
Avatar 3:14pm geezerette:

An enchanted submarine.
Avatar 3:15pm weinstein:

I should do an "enchanted" theme show.
Avatar 3:16pm geezerette:

All the squids have sequins.

David,that would be great!
Avatar 3:19pm geezerette:

I think we're beneath the Amazon.
Avatar 3:25pm geezerette:

Seriously, love this.
Avatar 3:27pm northguineahills:

Needs more robots, wasn't that Kurt's word this morning on W&B?
Avatar 3:27pm weinstein:

I think you can find video of these Anxious Spaces shows if you are curious. The setup was amazing.
Avatar 3:29pm fred:

Robots might be crankier now that Liz has left with her robot dance party
Avatar 3:32pm weinstein:

These robots were friendly.
Avatar 3:35pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Hi, hiatus!
Avatar 3:36pm weinstein:

Starting at 5 I'm channeling the Kenzo vibe.
Avatar 3:45pm northguineahills:

@fred: Ja!
Avatar 3:46pm fred:

@Kenzo: "hiatus" pairs weirdly with "last ever"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm doctorjazz:

This Zeena Parkins is fun!
Avatar 3:50pm weinstein:

Zeena was on fire that day, and had just gotten off a plane from Australia! Hallucinating perhaps?
Avatar 4:03pm geezerette:

It's extremely psychedelic.
Avatar 4:08pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Thank you, David, for whatever even-scarier-than-your-usual thing you will do today in an hour! See y'all next time...last time...
Avatar 4:09pm weinstein:

Our pleasure. Ken. Go forth...!
Avatar 4:33pm northguineahills:

Nice trio!
Avatar 4:37pm weinstein:

Everybody has fond memories of Reichel and his daxophones, but you graphic artists out there should check his website. He designed amazing fonts and the site is gorgeous even years after his death.
Avatar 4:42pm geezerette:

Lovely formal quality. Reminded me of Debussy a while ago.
Avatar 5:00pm northguineahills:

I have maybe just a that one Table Of the Elements Recs 7", and it's fantastic! I might have in in an improv group somewhere.
Avatar 5:00pm geezerette:

Man,that was stunning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Webhamster Henry:

The dax website has lots of daxophone plans and I hope I can convince some woodworking pals to make one for me. www.daxo.de Warning: Flash!
Avatar 5:03pm northguineahills:

One of my favorite Company (Derek Bailey's 'improv' groups) recs is the one where Anthony Braxton is amongst maybe 13 musicians.
Avatar 5:05pm weinstein:

Getting invited into a Company gig was a very high honor among the improv scene. Even for Braxton.
Avatar 5:08pm weinstein:

@Henry, ouch, that site will not be with us long. But maybe somebody is watching out for it.
Avatar 5:16pm northguineahills:

My favorite Eugene Chadbourne release (he was one of the kind folks who braved the wilds of FL when I was an undergrad [which was rare for adventurous music]) was a cassette in a used gym sock.
Avatar 5:17pm weinstein:

That's brilliant, and disgusting.
Avatar 5:18pm fred:

I think Chadbourne is the rare musician I like better on record than live. I find his antics distracting in person
Avatar 5:21pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I wish I could listen!
Avatar 5:24pm weinstein:

This is very Kenzological, more than at first listen!
Avatar 5:26pm weinstein:

@Fred, I understand this reaction. Being over the top is Chadbourne's method and silliness can wear thin (though this recording does not violate that too much).
  5:29pm Ruth:

plinkity plink.........................................................................................................................plink
Avatar 5:35pm fred:

It's me being silly by letting myself be distracted from the music. This set may feature silliness, but there are great musical moments I might have missed had I been there. In other words: radio rules
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Stanley:

This set is insane.
Avatar 5:43pm weinstein:

Yes, Fred this has aged pretty well. Insane history!
Avatar 5:43pm geezerette:

Who sez silliness can't be serious?
Avatar 5:44pm geezerette:

...& vice versa?
Avatar 5:45pm weinstein:

Avatar 5:45pm geezerette:

:D !
Avatar 5:48pm geezerette:

There's no reason this vocal reminds me of HDS, but it does.
Avatar 5:54pm geezerette:

Also Lyn Foulkes.
Avatar 5:56pm weinstein:

He's singing about Newt Gingrich. Still resonates, eh?
Avatar 5:57pm geezerette:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Doug Schulkind:

"Live Set" and "Eugene Chadbourne" are two phrases that go wonderfully together. Kind of like Ridgewood and Radio.
Avatar 5:58pm weinstein:

Doug! Welcome!
Avatar 6:00pm northguineahills:

That was an amazing set, thanks for sharing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Doug Schulkind:

It has taken me longer than I care to admit to warming up to Derek Bailey. My head got there before my heart did, but both are now in a happy place.
Avatar 6:21pm weinstein:

The playing is more like a map of his thinking, and that is supremely interesting, even if his "sound" doesn't do it for you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Doug Schulkind:

Elegantly put, Mr. Weinstein.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Gary:

Happy fourth*, David!

Avatar 6:29pm fred:

I'm yawning, so I'll leave now lest I miss that boat and spend hours unable to sleep. I plan to see a Robin Fox/Sean Baxter show tomorrow, with Thomas Ankersmit before or after, so I can use the rest
Avatar 6:32pm weinstein:

Take care Fred, always appreciated!
Avatar 6:32pm weinstein:

Hey Gary! We bump in the night!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Webhamster Henry:

Do that in your best Kenzo voice!
Avatar 6:35pm northguineahills:

Thanks David. I know I've heard a recording if Bailey & Teitlebaum a while back, don't think it was this one.

Finally getting of work at a decent time. Nights!
Avatar 6:37pm weinstein:

NGH: ahhhh.
Avatar 6:38pm weinstein:

I want to be Kenzo's Ed McMahon or perhaps Guillermo from Kimmel.
Avatar 6:53pm weinstein:

To everybody who stayed with me though the four hours... peace, love, and pledge! Bodega Pop Live next! 45s!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Gary:

Thanks, David! 45s are this way >>>> wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Doug Schulkind:

Thank you thank you thank you for covering for Kenzo, David. Go have a bubble bath and a glass of merlot.
Avatar 6:58pm weinstein:

Over and out!
