"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

We could use a hero like Godzilla now.
Avatar 9:46am PKNY:

I'm surprised Judas Priest doesn't have a song called "Metal Manuevers".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am steveo:

the title of this song reminds me that I'm supporting the "women boycott twitter" today (by not using twitter) I'd give you the hashtag for more information, but....
Avatar 9:50am Sem Chumbo:

Good morning, John, and JA in the AM folk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am mauri:

morning all. hey sem hows autumn treating you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Passaic River Blues:

Ms. Asakawa is most welcome right now.
Avatar 9:56am Polyus:

John, I went to a funeral yesterday at a glitzy new suburban megachurch, and I am thinking the real money is in contemporary christian music. Maybe WFMU needs to work some of that in?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am steveo:

aseteroid joiroid is alright with me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am sinister dexter:

good stuff John thanks , hi all from grand rapids michigan
Avatar 10:03am John Allen:

Avatar 10:04am Wild Neil:

PEACE All. I used to he REALLY into Christian Rock. Not so much now though. Grammatrain is pretty awesome actually. Kinda like Soundgarden, really.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am steveo:

loving this set
Avatar 10:07am Number Six:

@Polyus: I think that would drive away listeners. Besides they already have Music of Mind Control.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Ken From Hyde Park:

It's morning. Is it good?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am melinda:

Joe McG did a nice set of hippie-inflected Jesus music this week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am steveo:

it's good in my ears, don't know about elsewhere @ken
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am ⓘⓚⓔ:

I like Dave the Spazz a lot. I like Daniel Blumin a lot. I like Olivia a lot. I like Joe Belock some.
Avatar 10:15am Polyus:

@melinda - if only this stuff were hippie jesus music. It might have at least been vaguely tolerable, instead of just plain creepy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am steveo:

i enjoy Kevin McNutt's gospel program on WFMU
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am steveo:

Kevin Nutt, sorry
Avatar 10:22am Sem Chumbo:

Hey, mauri! @9:50. Just back from the garden. This Fall has been so mild, there are still sweet snap peas, bush beans, tomatoes, and parsley and sage. Been extra-war! How about there? Still colder than usual?
  10:24am fredr:

Not the usual Magic Band lineup but I always thought this was a good Beefheart album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am steveo:

can feel my own heart growing beefier with each measure
Avatar 10:28am Davee:

good morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am BronwynB:

hey john and everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am maestroso:

G'morning John and all. Finally coming up for air. Great music, digging these tracks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am melinda:

@Polyus yeah, the hippie Jesus music is its own genre.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am melinda:

@Sem mild here in Maine, too, just picked a few cherry tomatoes, sage plant is thriving. Though it's gotten chilly today.
Avatar 10:42am coelacanth∅:

good morning John and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am melinda:

yo coel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am joe mulligan:

thought this mhysa would have been the new JLin for a sec
Avatar 10:55am Sem Chumbo:

@melinda 10:38: We should have a regular gardening report on JA in the AM. John would be behind that, for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am fleep:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am fleep:

persimmons still abundant, pickable by halloween. some varmint damage. meyer lemons fully ripe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am melinda:

@Sem that would be fun. My garden report would make everyone else's look better by comparison.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am melinda:

fleep what do you do with persimmons? I had an elderly relative who made really bland cookies with them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am el_musgo:

Nice Show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am fleep:

melinda these are fuyus, they are best eaten like an apple when ripe, and the flavor is intense, sweet with cinnamon/nutmeg undertones. the hachiya kind for baking are kind of meh.
Avatar 11:09am Wild Neil:

My non-gmo organic tomato plant (which is about 7 feet tall now growing on a conical trellis) is still producing. Some tomatoes look to weigh about 4 pounds while others are about golf ball size.
I used to listen exclusively to Klyte in Albequerque back in the late 90's. They were a Christian Rock station.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am melinda:

That sounds yummy
Avatar 11:12am coelacanth∅:

hi melinda (...delayed)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am melinda:

I usually have 2 cherry tomato plants of differing varieties in containers every year, and every year one does way better or worse than the other, for no clear reason. Sungolds are usually good but were a total dud this year.
Avatar 11:19am coelacanth∅:

mmm persimmons. the first ones i ever had were hachiya and once very ripe were extremely sweet and as delicious as the fuyus i've had since. i did not know that hachiyas are usually less delicious for raw eating but it's true they have been every time since that first time.
Avatar 11:20am coelacanth∅:

that is strange, melinda. sun golds are usually dependable.
  11:22am sim:

Liking the Zion Rocketship 'tude. The sneer.
  11:23am maja:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am steveo:

ditto on rocketship; possible contemporary christian?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am melinda:

Yeah. The less tasty variety I planted in the container that did poorly the year before really thrived. I buy plants from different farmers ever year so I wonder if that has something do with it. I'm an inattentive gardener, but the plants get the same attention/inattention.
Avatar 11:34am coelacanth∅:

could be the farm, could be the ancestry of each plant, could be subtleties we don't notice - like a slight difference in the amount of light or air circulation between 2 plants.
i once worked at an agway store. we'd get all of a specific variety from one farm, try to treat them all the same, but still the ones at one end of the table would do better than at the other end.
Avatar 11:35am coelacanth∅:

...or - maybe one plant is consistently the first one pollenating insects get to when they're visiting your plants.
Avatar 11:41am Polyus:

Sorta Wyatt-esque vocals on that last one.
Avatar 11:43am coelacanth∅:

the ghoulies?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am steveo:

thanks for the show JA (& sorry to step out early)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am Passaic River Blues:

Maybe he's a fan of Black Saint records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm fleep:

Score tied, JA goes into overtime.
Avatar 12:02pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks JA
