Signs of getting older: Even paper cuts take longer to heal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Pesky symptom of aging: memory loss.
Avatar 7:08pm Jeff:

Yeah, but Southern ladies have that really scary way they can eviscerate you by saying

"Bless your heart!"
  7:08pm sugarwolf:

Kelly!!! <3 u!!!
  7:10pm Keith from Oregon:

I'm a 66 year old man, and I became invisible to women years ago.
  7:11pm sugarwolf:

Nobody believes my age when I tell them. I'm not dying my white hairs so maybe be people will stop thinking I'm in school.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm (Murakami Whywolf))):

Older, in stores:
Pro: I'm no longer frequently searched.
Con: Women behind counters neither flirt with me nor are reticent.

That is to say, I'm now considered 'safe'. If I weren't white (enough), I'd probably welcome it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm melinda:

Great topic. Interesting to hear from the older guys too.
Avatar 7:16pm kimzilla:

Hi Melinda! We actually decided to focus on the ladies this episode, since there is a pretty significant impact on the "invisibility cloak" that occurs with woman as they age, but we do want to hear from men on the message board on this subject from their perspective.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm melinda:

@kim I assumed the show was oriented towards women, which is cool, but glad to hear the guys on the comment board as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm (Murakami Whywolf))):

Devil's Advocate: the 'wise old person' idea made more sense in relatively static societies with fixed canons of knowledge.
  7:20pm Kate:

sounds like a sequel, I'd be really interested in hearing from men on this topic
Avatar 7:21pm kimzilla:

Kelly Jones says the old person used to be the Google
Avatar 7:22pm kimzilla:

@ Kate, not a bad idea, if any men want to talk we want to hear from you. email us!
  7:23pm dez:

i'm not aging, i am just gaining experience as a 21 year old
Avatar 7:24pm kimzilla:

@Dez- you count your grey hairs with pride!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm melinda:

Murakami I think you are right. Age still brings wisdom you can't attain without it, but elders aren't the sole repositories of knowledge and things change much more quickly now.
  7:25pm dez:

i'm on the road to 'distinguished'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm (Murakami Whywolf))):

I 'read' much younger on the phone and via email; I've had potential high tech employers be very enthusiastic over those channels only to see their faces fall when I show up, in one case after travelling from one coast to another.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Chris J:

There's knowledge, and then there's wisdom.
Avatar 7:27pm kimzilla:

@Dez- and that's one thing woman don't really get. Being called distinguished that is.
  7:27pm dez:

sandra makes a GREAT point about hanging with all ages when in your 40s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Pro tip: Hang around with old people. That way, you're the young, cool person of the bunch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm melinda:

@Ken yes. I have a lot of older friends. But ideally one has friends of many ages, because the older ones will die first.
Avatar 7:28pm kimzilla:

@Ken, so true.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Greg from ZONE 5:

I love that about FMU—I can hang out with someone in their 20s and someone in their 60s AT THE SAME TIME.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm melinda:

@Greg I can't hang out at FMU in person but I like that feature of participating in the comment boards.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Richard S:

One good thing about getting older that I've found is that you know a lot more songs and poems to use in appropriate occasions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Greg - Yes, also people from urban, rural areas, different countries, life experiences, etc. It's very cool.
Avatar 7:35pm Will from Seattle:

what if the animals themselves are fuzzy?
  7:36pm blech:

ugh, no putting yourself down for your race please, how does that help anyone
Avatar 7:36pm Will from Seattle:

kim said that they can't be fuzzy. She mean the pictures, it was a joke :p
  7:37pm sheepfriend:

horse lover! love the middle age ponies.
Avatar 7:38pm kimzilla:

@Will, the mascots can be fuzzy, feathery, slimy, squishy, or spiny.
  7:38pm Marc15:

I faced agephobia on a Gay Dating App. I put my age, 50, in my profile. A 22 year old guy messaged me and asked me why am I was using this App if my “life is over”?
  7:38pm Emily:

@Will ohhhhhh. D'oi. It was a good joke! Just because I didn't get it doesn't mean it wasn't good! I'm just a little thick :P
Avatar 7:39pm kimzilla:

@Sheepfriend, you got a three person LOL when I read that out loud.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm melinda:

@Marc that''s awful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Can't remember who said it, but they said that being an attractive woman and aging is like being born rich and slowly going broke :(
  7:41pm Kate:

@ Richard S., that is SO true,
My country is Kiltartan Cross,
My countrymen Kiltartan's poor,
No likely end could bring them loss
Or leave them happier than before.
Avatar 7:41pm kimzilla:

@Marc15, I want to visit him when he is 50 and laugh in his face.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm Richard S:

@Kate: This has been in mind a lot lately
"... Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity."
Avatar 7:45pm kimzilla:

I love all these discussions, especially from the male perspective.
  7:45pm Marc15:

@Melinda Thank you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Greg from ZONE 5:

@Marc: And if life has taught us anything, it's that 22 year olds know everything.
  7:46pm Marc15:

@Kimzilla I would love to
  7:49pm sugarwolf:

I work with someone who one day decided she didn't want to laugh or smile because it causes wrinkles.
  7:50pm Marc15:

@Greg From Zone 5: Oh yes! My Ex-Boyfriend was 23 when we were together and he thought he knew everything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm melinda:

I found that at some point in my mid-late 30s I stopped worrying about attracting unwanted attention, whether or not dressing a certain way would attract it, etc. At first I thought it was just me gaining confidence through age but then I realized it was because guys weren't noticing me, or letting me know they noticed me. It is mostly liberating, but also kind of sad (and it feels whiny to mention the sad part, but there it is).
Avatar 7:51pm Will from Seattle:

oi that's cause you were in NC...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm melinda:

Pro-natalist attitudes like that make me so mad.
  7:52pm Marc15:

A definite throat punch for me too
  7:52pm Kate:

@Richard S: oh yes, we need to meet at a bar somewhere and drink
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Movies, TV and magazines are pretty much riddled with young, handsome people, further adding to the stereotype that the olds don't matter much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm Switchblade Batman:

I'm about to turn 40 this month, and I'm near panic every 20 seconds
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm melinda:

@Ken yeah, only seeing young people represented in media really gets into your head and makes you feel irrelevant.
  7:55pm Marc15:

As Greg said the 20-somethings think they know everything
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Dear God please don't take my drinking. Anything but that…
  7:55pm Marc15:

Please continue this topic another week
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm chris:

hi, everyone!

it takes constant vigilance, Greg...

wow, i missed quite another show. :(
  7:57pm listener 126464:

Thanks for another great show DJs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm Chris J:

When my runner's magazine stopped publishing, I was switched over to Men's Fitness magazine. Surprised to find an article covering men in their 20s, 30s, and 40s -- then nothing. I ain't dead yet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Great show, lady bros!
Avatar 7:57pm kimzilla:

Hi Chris! Thanks for the great comments all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Father Time, the undisputed, undefeated champion of the world (sports analogy). Don't fight it, just go along for the ride. You are what you are.

Also, for a comic greeting card: "We're not as young as we used to be." "We're not as old as we're going to be!"
Avatar 7:58pm Will from Seattle:

way ahead of you!
  7:58pm Hypertoast:

I remember hearing an interview with Joan Rivers(i think it was with Terry Gross) and they were saying how insulting it was when someone said to an older woman things like "oh, and who's this young lady?" or things like that. Most people don't even think that older people can handle it.
Avatar 7:58pm mieka:

Emily and Kimzilla: Thanks for these interviews!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Chris J:

Good show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm melinda:

Thanks ladies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Richard S:

Catch you next week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Nice show, nice closer!
