I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

The hammered-dulcimer "Carmina Burana" now on the stream meshes nicely with this playlist graphic.

Good afternoon Mayuko, James and other listeners

Hi, Ivan! I hope you're having a lovely weekend!!

Happy Saturday everyone! my favorite color grey! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
tmoyo:

Hi Mayuko, everyone! rbrt, grey is my favorite too!
Avatar 12:23pm
Mayuko:

Hi rbrt and tmoyo! Thanks for tuning in! Grey has been the color that's in my mind this whole past week, so that's where the show started.

"invest in death this year" lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
fred:

It also matches the cover of Daniel Blumin's Text-Sound premium
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
tmoyo:

i want to print photographs in a darkroom. such a hassle but the b&w foggy image reminded me of the magical experience.
Avatar 12:26pm
Mayuko:

@rbrt I actually laughed when I listened to this track, glad I am not the only one. Wasn't sure if this whole thing was supposed to be funny.
Avatar 12:28pm
Mayuko:

fred, yeah that Daniel's Text-Sound premium is a great one! He already had a clear idea of what it should look so I didn't have to use a single bit of my own brain helping out the design.
  12:30pm
rbrt:

@Mayuko I'm glad you said that because after I typed that I was like people are going to think i'm crazy, I find humor in the strangest things sometimes lol

Hi, Mayuko and verti-goers. I was watching NASA TV yesterday morning when the Cassini signal stopped coming. It was a little sad to watch. www.nasa.gov...
  12:33pm
rbrt:

yeah poor Cassini! it's amazing how many people were so interested in it. good sign for the future I suppose
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm
fred:

I still think NASA should have put a Sun Ra record on that probe
  12:39pm
rbrt:

@fred no doubt
  12:40pm
rbrt:

meaning yes not the band lol
Avatar 12:41pm
Mayuko:

@tmoyo That's really cool that you're one of the last people who uses film! Somehow those analog techniques - just like holography and pepper's ghosts - there's really something magical about them.
Avatar 12:47pm
Mayuko:

Hellos, Ken! After all that talk, I missed that very moment being too carried away by work. Signal stop coming really sounds like a kind of D.E.A.T.H.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
fred:

@rbrt: Sun Ra's folks would have been confused had you been the DJ in charge there: No Doubt and Yes but not The Band
  12:48pm
rbrt:

@fred haha I noticed that but I didn't know how to correct all that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm
listener james from westwood:

This plucky, blippy track was the perfect accompaniment to my dealing with a spider plant that, as I realized while watering it, was poorly balanced in its perch in a gravel-filled dish atop my computer. Noticed it shaking as the water filtered through and rescued it from toppling over. This thing has well overgrown its container and needs to be separated into smaller plants, but for the moment is embedded more deeply in a larger container of gravel. Had lost sight of how big it'd gotten because it did so very slowly!
Avatar 12:53pm
Mayuko:

@james I hope you'll get something like this for your spider plant when he moves to a bigger container. plantcaretoday.com... maybe human-shape.

rbrt:

it's like a giant chia pet

Oh, I would love to trellis or root this in something like that. Tried to grow a pothos up a trellis some years back but couldn't keep it moist enough!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm
fred:

Maybe there would be less littering around where I live if most trash cans hadn't been removed for "security reasons". I often have to walk a few blocks to find one. By now I know where they are, which isn't a good sign

Mayuko:

Hello coelacanth∅! Welcome on board!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
listener james from westwood:

@Mayuko: Would also love to plant spider plants in a strawberry planter, such as this one, b/c they'd eventually get rootbound and begin putting out lots of runners with baby plants to repot! bit.ly...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm
coelacanth∅:

hey rbrt!
tmoyo @12.25 i can relate to this sentiment. i haven't used a darkroom in about 11 years and it's still a passion that i think about frequently.

@james that pot looks pretty! I have my first and only plant friend Avocado tree who I raised from a seed. I always worry that he is getting taller and yet remains skinny. Hope he'll thrive like your spider plants!!
Avatar 1:29pm

Maybe it'd be fun to design your own trellis. I should think about this!

  1:36pm
rbrt:

you can grow avocado's inside??
Avatar 1:39pm
Mayuko:

@rbrt yah, it's apparently easy. though I guess being inside limits his growth, he could be very tall and large if outside.
Avatar 1:39pm
northguineahills:

ack, sorry Mayuko, for some reason you started at 11am, so I went to other sound solutions. Got home yesterday afternoon after I heard I had electricity, and now I'm cleaning. Didn't expect to stay away from home for a whole week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm
coelacanth∅:

most things can grow inside, with some environmental adjustments. the one thing though is that without wind and other elements harsher than the inside plants may grow up weak. (like a child or a dog that's frequently carried instead of being made to/allowed to walk)
the wind from an early age makes it bend and sway, toughening up the stems and trunk.

Oh my god, ngh! Glad you're ok now and safe! Jose is coming to Florida soon, right? This year hurricanes seem to be crazy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm

welcome home ngh.
-did you finish that drainage ditch?
Avatar 1:51pm

Looks like Jose may take a swipe at Cape Cod looking at the latest models.

Time to clean the toilet. One week w/o climate control, and the heat and humidity take over.

Old school Autechre!
Avatar 1:54pm
Mayuko:

coelacanth∅, that is exactly how my avocado tree became a spoiled plant! He got very carsick from riding a truck and being shaken a bit. Maybe I should start training him with opening the window.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm
fred:

I missed the past 20 minutes as my neighbor's mother came to give me a talk about how unhealthy it is to be living alone while she knows many nice Tunisian women who love to marry a French guy. I kid you not
  1:57pm
rbrt:

indoor avocado tree sounds pretty cool...I might try this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm
coelacanth∅:

fred that's hilarious! -well at least she cares about you.
...or she's trying to find out if you're gay!
Avatar 1:59pm

@fred I just hope those Tunisian ladies don't mind you listening to some spoken word pieces mumbling about D.E.A.T.H on the radio.

I'm going to try to grow an avocado come early February (first get the pit started indoors) when I start my garden. Can't wait, will be much more fun then my fire escape nanogarden in Brooklyn.

@ngh - Didn't you try your hand at pepper plants when you were in Brooklyn? Do peppers grow well in Florida?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm
Jаson:

I remember Ae said in an interview many years ago that people could pronounce it however they wanted.

(I always say it like ngh, always found that most nautral)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm
coelacanth∅:

i had a beautiful, compact garden on my fire escape for my last apartment...cardinal climber vines, morning glory, moon flower, scarlet runner beans - entangling the wrought iron all the way down to the 2nd floor. (+some potted herbs)
now i have a whole deck (porch?) and i never got around to planting anything here for the summer.
-duh.

@northguineahills Florida IS the place for em avocados! Your plant will be very happy! And thanks for the pronunciation, I will say it "Aw-tech-er" from now on.
Avatar 2:12pm
northguineahills:

Yes, Ken! I did. My wife let my 5 year old jalapeno plants die (they got tastier every year). The habaneros never lasted a winter (I brought them in for the winter). Peppers grow well here. I can plant indoors in late January so I can plant outside in February which is when the growing season starts. I can't wait!

@Jason ok maybe then I'll call it differently every time, haha! Thanks for listening!
