Options September 13, 2017: Live music from MONK PARKER!
Simmering in the fertile musical casserole of Austin, Texas, Monk Parker returns to WFMU to bring his shimmering, eloquent songs on today's episode of 100% Whatever. At times haunting and mournful, with guitar, organ and horns washing over each other in a reverb sea, it’s the perfect sound of twilight; those hours just before the sky goes completely black. Currently on tour to promote his second album, “Crown Of Sparrows,” released on August 4th on Grand Jury Music; I'm thrilled to have him back on the show!

Aloha, Mary and future people.
Avatar 12:15pm Mary Wing:

Howdy, Carmichael! Let me close the curtains...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm maestroso:

G'day Mary and Carmichael. Lovely sound.
Avatar 12:19pm Mary Wing:

Hi maestroso, welcome to Wednesday whateverness!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hello. Passing on my sympathies for those who knew DJ Wm. Berger.
Avatar 12:35pm JakeGould:

Happy when Wednesday comes around. It means less week!
Avatar 12:41pm Mary Wing:

Hi Ken and Jake!

Thanks, Ken, we are all pretty upset around here about it.
Avatar 12:51pm JakeGould:

William Berger’s passing is definitely sad. To my knowledge, no details are being shared just yet. But William was not exactly shy about the fact he was suffering from some health problems the past few years and possibly longer.

I hope he’s at peace wherever he is. Great guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Webhamster Henry:

Nice Horse Lords here, Mary!
Avatar 12:57pm northguineahills:

That's pretty much how I feel, Jake.
Avatar 1:00pm Mary Wing:

Hey hey Henry and NGH!
Avatar 1:19pm Sem Chumbo:

Hiya, Mary, whatever lovers. Good day from farther up the right coast.
Avatar 1:21pm Mary Wing:

Hi there, Sem, glad you could stop by!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Ike:

Sounds good!
Avatar 1:33pm geezerette:

Pretty music!
Avatar 1:36pm Mary Wing:

Hiya Ike and geezerette! Yeah, I love this sound, the vibraphone really makes it beautiful.
Avatar 1:51pm geezerette:

Just read above about William Berger, so sorry!
He was an important part of the station's DNA.
Condolences to family and friends.
Avatar 1:54pm Sem Chumbo:

That Apple album title dislocates me in time: I see it on a wax cylinder. While reading it I'm twirling my handlebar mustache, idly wondering whether the bottom has really fallen out of the buggy whip market.
Avatar 1:55pm northguineahills:

Still no power at my house. Hoping to get it soon so I can go home.
Avatar 1:56pm Mary Wing:

Heh, Sem. She certainly keeps her album titles long!
Avatar 1:56pm Mary Wing:

Any serious tree damage near your place, NGH?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Stanley:

Hot knives!
Hiya Mary, Sem and everybody.
Avatar 1:59pm northguineahills:

Just the trees that crushed my driveway and fence. I thought it might happen, it's why I evacuated.
Avatar 1:59pm northguineahills:

House is thankfully fine (according to my landlord.)
Avatar 2:02pm Sem Chumbo:

HI, Stanley. Looking dapper as usual.
Avatar 2:02pm glenn:

i see margo timmins at my local home depot quite frequently. she has a big honkin' s.u.v.
Avatar 2:04pm northguineahills:

lefrac city, I used to work next to thre.
Avatar 2:04pm northguineahills:

Avatar 2:08pm Mary Wing:

Hi Stanley and glenn! Great to have you here today!

I'm not sure why Gary spelled it LeFrak; that threw me for a moment, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Parq:

Got to be one of the best classic-rock singles ever.

Oh, and "Nun With A Chainsaw" would be a good name for a band. Am I right?
Avatar 2:11pm glenn:

bongiorno, signora wing. come stai oggi?
Avatar 2:12pm glenn:

Avatar 2:12pm Mary Wing:

Buono, glenn. I wonder what Margot Timmins buys at Home Depot? Lumber and drywall?
Avatar 2:13pm weinstein:

Isn't LeFrak City correct? Housing complex (don't call it a project!) in Corona?
Avatar 2:13pm glenn:

prolly. she and her lawyer husband have a nice old big house.
Avatar 2:15pm Mary Wing:

I don't know, David! I don't think I've ever, ever seen it spelled out, ever. LeFrak looks so weird to me, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Parq:

This Sister Hazel kicks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm ⓘⓚⓔ:

LeFrak is correct! I would not be surprised if some of the pirates that interfere with FMU are located there. Corona is a pirate hotbed, and they like to set up shop in tall apt. buildings to get the signal out from as great a height as possible.
Avatar 2:21pm Mary Wing:

Hi there, Parq! It does, yes.

I can see that, Ike, especially since there aren't too many really tall buildings in the boroughs (yet).
Avatar 2:21pm weinstein:

Secrets of Queens. Love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Parq:

Speaking of kicking, digging this 'kicker version.
Avatar 2:29pm fred:

Good afternoon Mary and 100 percenters.
I like this quiet cover
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Webhamster Henry:

I like these covers with the guitar god licks sucked out of them!
  2:33pm Mark R:

Having the name Scout Niblett pretty much pushes you in the direction of the entertainment business, as opposed to say, the Supreme Court. Although we did have a Whizzer White. So I guess anything goes.
Avatar 2:34pm Sem Chumbo:

I wonder if the Niblett parents considered "Boo" rather than "Scout".
"Atticus" would have been too out there, I suppose.
Avatar 2:36pm Mary Wing:

Hi fred, and Mark, too! Howya doin'?
  2:37pm Mark R:

Nice to get to tune in live for a change, Mary. Love Sweet Honey in the Rock!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Parq:

That was one of the best "Of a Kind" segments yet!
Avatar 2:41pm Mary Wing:

You may not say that when you hear that I had Poison's version ready to go next, but decided no because it wouldn't segue well, heh.
Avatar 2:46pm fred:

I understand. Poison is a poor choice for a chaser
Avatar 2:47pm Mary Wing:

Heh heh heeeeeh.
Avatar 2:48pm Mary Wing:

Nicely played, fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm Parq:

"Poison, feat. Scout Niblett". Oh, I can dream, can't I?
Avatar 2:54pm Mary Wing:

Why does my translation app translate "De Riguer" as (wait for it) "De Riguer"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Parq:

Sure you have the first box set to French?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Stanley:

Stop Making Sense is perhaps one of the few live concert films I like.
Good pick, Mary.
Avatar 2:57pm Mary Wing:

heh. Yes, Parq.
Avatar 2:57pm Sem Chumbo:

Agreed, Stanley.
Thank you, Mary. See you again next time!
Avatar 2:58pm northguineahills:

Poisson is an excellent chaser for sake, if it's raw....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Parq:

Don't be mad at me for asking, I make that particular mistake all the time. And here's your problem, it's "rigueur" not "Riguer".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Stanley:

Wonderful stuff.
Thanks Mary.
On we go............
Avatar 3:00pm Mary Wing:

TThanks for listening today, folks!
Avatar 3:00pm fred:

Thanks Mary
Avatar 3:01pm Mary Wing:

So it is, Parq, thanks for spotting the typo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18am Cooh John:

Missed Monk Parker when he came to my town and on your show! Oh, the agony.
