Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm coelacanth∅:

i expect an excellent Holger Czukay tribute today but unfortunately have to work through most of it.
-rest in peace.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Michael 98145:

Blubbo in my head -
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:12pm chris:

ciao, Fabio! hello, everyone. Yes to the tribute. Boo to the failure of immortality.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm adrian in mpls:

I have a soft spot in my heart for "Soon Over Babaluma" - first Can record I ever bought - probably like everyone here, I was surprised to read about Czukay's death...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Michael 98145:

such great music.
what a loss.
Avatar 3:19pm Cecile:

I was surprised, but not shocked. Just because he was at that age. But what a life he had!
Avatar 3:19pm Cecile:

Walter Becker, far more of a shock.
Avatar 🎸 3:20pm slugluv1313:

good afternoon, Fabio and everyone!
awful news -- reading about the circumstances of Czukay's death (his wife/partner had died about two weeks earlier?) so sad
Avatar 3:24pm Cecile:

Was it a broken heart, or worse?
Avatar 3:27pm Cecile:

Can you play the streetcar song? If it fits in?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Michael 98145:

roughly translated : "the great Cologne musician and co-founder of the band "Can" died at the age of 79 years in the legendary "Can" studio – an old cinema in Weilerswist. In recent years, the musician had converted this to his apartment. The exact cause of death is unclear, the police determined.

Construction workers had not seen Czukay for several days on the premises and informed a neighbour. They looked and found Czukay lifeless in his apartment. An ambulance was only able to determine his death.
Holger Czukay, who revolutionized the world with "Can" from 1968 to 1978, died only a few days after his wife Ursula, who died on July 28 on her 55th Birthday...."
Avatar 3:29pm Cecile:

OH. They found him. And not a few hours after he died, like my brother in law. I hope he felt no pain.
Avatar 3:30pm Cecile:

now 55. that's only a year younger than I am. Ulp.
Avatar 🎸 3:30pm slugluv1313:

@ Cecile -- from what i have read, cause of death has yet to be determined
some articles say that he was in "good spirits"
but i dunno -- when my Grandma died, my step-Grandfather died soon after, and apparently this is not that uncommon
Avatar 3:32pm Cecile:

it happened to my great aunt and her husband.

Avatar 3:42pm Cecile:

Some people think it's kind of sweet. I have told my husband if he doesn't continue on old, bitter and crochety after I die, I will kick his ass from beyond the grave.
Avatar 3:43pm Cecile:

Well, that doesn't make sense. I will kick his ass in the hereafter.
Avatar 🎸 3:45pm emmagineering:

thanks fab — enjoying the holger cz tribute!
Avatar 🎸 3:47pm slugluv1313:

@ Cecile -- hah! :)
not sure if i think it is "sweet" -- i guess it is *sorta* okay that they are reunited in the great beyond (whatever that is) -- but i still think it is sad overall

Avatar 4:13pm Chris from DC:

I have missed Paperhouse. Bah.
  4:15pm Doctor B.:

I've been a can fan since finding a large handful of their albums in a bargain bin in, of all places, a mall record store.

Rock in peace, Holger. News of your passing was the worst news I've heard this week.

Avatar 4:18pm geezerette:

Never heard Can or Czukay before FMU. Great music I might've missed!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:23pm The Oscar:

I watched the FWWM deleted scenes for the first time just before the finale last weekend. It was really stunning how directly a lot of it applied, as well as how watching the scenes strung together had a similar rhythm to most episodes of The Return.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Ike:

Halyards is 3rd Ave & 6th St. in Gowanus. Nice back room, a bit small though.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:29pm ɨkɛ:

I thought 4th Ave. was the border between Gowanus & the Slope? No? I can't figure out if there's a definite Sunset Park northern border either, or if Greenwood Heights is part of Sunset Park or not.

Avatar 4:52pm Parq:

Not sure, but it's possible the first time Can made it onto my brain pan was when Dan Bodah performed Vitamin C at the marathon finale ca. 2009 (the second year at Maxwell's). 'Spect I'd heard them on FMU before that but never took note of the name.
  4:52pm Davee:

i am really enjoying your show Mr Fabio.
Avatar 4:53pm Parq:

There was a post about Can on my FB account this morning -- not a usual occurrence, you'll have to take my word for it. Did not know why until just now.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Carmichael:

Lost in all this banter is the excellent musical score. Kind of underlines the whole conversation ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm steveo:

Fabio, I'm sorry I was not listening carefully. Was the Nitsch performance you mentioned at Marc Strauss?

I found this: "Music is one of the core pillars of Nitsch’s work, a sensory dimension that has its roots in the primal scream and in moments of excitation. Nitsch will perform an organ recital for the first time in New York. [!]

But it's not clear from that web page when this is taking place. Do you have that info?
Avatar 5:21pm geezerette:

Ed Moses was born in 1925. Still painting like a mockingbird sings, never the same way twice, freer than ever.
Is this helping? At all?
  5:22pm Dean:

Some of those Selectric models were technological marvels. Rock solid, reliably functional.

But when I hear traffic, the sound of traffic—here on Sixth Avenue, for instance—I don't have the feeling that anyone is talking. I have the feeling that sound is acting.
