A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Greets again. Gotta become un-naked and get out the door...
  9:03am Albert Stubbins:

With a name like three moons, I'd like to think you're always not un-naked.
Avatar 9:03am Paul In Bloomfield:

what great tune that was. Morning all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03am Threemoons:

On the radio nobody knows you're naked...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03am melinda:

hi all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04am melinda:

@threemoons haha
Avatar 9:05am Sem Chumbo:

Good morning, Trouble, and all. Double threat right here, Issac and Dionne.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am Parq:

Wow, I had no idea this Warwick/Hayes combo existed. Way cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am The Oscar:

My favorite description of Isaac's "Walk On By" comes via a former coworker: "The first time I heard it, I said, 'I hope this just keeps going,' and then it JUST KEPT GOING!'" Also, morning all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am Megaroni:

Dionne opened up her Lincoln Center cameo with this song in July, so amazing to see her up close and in person
Avatar 9:08am PKNY:

Black Moses was a genius. Like Parq, never knew about this Ike/Dionne combo, this is fantastic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am Parq:

The Oscar's point is a good one. I also feel that way about his "By the Time I Get to Phoenix".
Avatar 9:09am Thwacko:

Love this song, never heard this version before. Thanks!
Avatar 9:09am Trouble:

true @ sem chumbo! i had no idea they had done a record together. Good morning thursdayers! this mornings fantabulous artwork is by farah atassi
Avatar 9:10am PKNY:

Back when there was still dollar bins at record stores, "Hot Buttered Soul" was a top 5 all-time dollar bin win.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am unpopularfred:

That was so good. This next one keeps on going too.
  9:11am Blix:

Bringing the proper funk this morning Trouble!
Avatar 9:11am PKNY:

@Trouble - you're reading my mind! This whole song is dope, but extra props to the bass/drum combo at the end, they give Ike a nice canvas to get busy on the piano.
Avatar 9:11am Sem Chumbo:

Can't get enough...
Avatar 9:12am Polyus:

I'm a sucker for this drum part, especially on the breaks. It's the little things sometimes.
Avatar 9:14am Thwacko:

Looks like I'm gonna have to get some Isaac Hayes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am unpopularfred:

That "Man And A Woman" has an amazing/scary looking track list.
Only 72 for sale on discogs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am MD:

Good Morning ALL!!!
Avatar 9:17am PKNY:

@Thwacko - it used to be that you could load up on the critical Ike records for $1 a pop, but they should still be easy to find.

The Public Enemy loop part is coming up soon!
  9:18am Tom from Maplewood:

Great way to wake up! Thank you! (And maybe some long tracks for you to get organized, Ms. Trouble? Ha!). Any excuse for Isaac Hayes is okay! (Haze?)
  9:18am Alex:

bass. how low can you go
Avatar 9:18am PKNY:

Isaac Hayes, all in my brain. Lately things just don't seem the same.
  9:21am sugarwolf:

Good morning! What would it be like to leave Brooklyn and move to Providence?
Avatar 9:32am Trouble:

i adore providence @emily. the living is easy compared to brooklyn. great food, lots of interesting people. not sure what the adjunct art market is like up there...
  9:35am sugarwolf:

That's gross, get rid of your coffee, people!!!

I love doughnuts tho
  9:35am JakeGould:

So who took over the Van Hooten space?

  9:42am JakeGould:

@Trouble: OMFG! You know when there is a corporate name connected to a major venue like that, I wonder if that is better or worse than naming the place after–I don’t know–some old rich white guy.
  9:48am Mark Williams:

cover of a Ken Boothe song from 1968, this Colourbox.
  9:55am Warwick joe:

I need to delve into the culture club discography. This is great
  9:57am John in Bklyn:

CC had great tunes. Sad that some of it was overlooked because people were so focused on their appearance.
Avatar 9:59am Trouble:

@john in bklyn: everyone was at the time, it was that scene
Avatar 10:02am Roberto:

I think I've just found my new theme song.
  10:03am John in Bklyn:

@Trouble Absolutely. It was a fun time! There was still a lot of new ground to be broken.
  10:05am John in Bklyn:

Not that there isn't still new ground to be broken! It's just much easier to connect the music influence dots in 2017.

Saw SO many amazing birds in NH. Kayaked with some loons, a family of goldeneyes stopped by our dock, two bald eagles circled the island across the way, and I got the stinkeye from a cormorant.

just finished "losing it" by emma rathbone. she can describe a moment in time like nobody's business, but i didn't exactly connect with her moments in time as much as i wanted to. sigh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am BronwynB:

this is amazing!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am Mick:

This is amazing. Love that she performed this on the would-be apocalyptic date. "Gegenschein," according to the internets: "a patch of very faint nebulous light sometimes seen in the night sky opposite the position of the sun. It is thought to be the image of the sun reflected from gas and dust outside the atmosphere"

This Gegenschein is nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Passaic River Blues:

@Trouble: Oh man, Rebecca West is one of my favorites! “The Return of the Solider”, “Harriet Hume”, and “The Judge” are all awesome. She could do it all: novels, essays, criticism, journalistic non-fiction. "The Fountain Overflows" is rumored to be among her best.
Avatar 11:24am Trouble:

so glad to hear @prb. i found this second hand, had never heard of her but of course the NYR stamp assured me it would be quality
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Priscilla:

I enjoyed reading "Losing It", but I thought she was better at momentary observations than knitting it all together.
Avatar 11:26am Trouble:

@priscilla : some of those momentary observations were shimmering!

Fans of Bklyn Raga Massive can hear lots of stuff related to that on a podcast called NYC Radio Live. Although it contains WAY too much milquetoast talk, talk, talk, chatter, boring interviews, blah blah blah, you can just fast-forward through all that to the music, which is great.
