A trek through psych rock, modern music, dangling noise, jazz, punk, funk, kid's records played at the wrong speed, cut-ups, static, number stations. Shortwave. Composition du decomposition. Subversive words. You're the guest. Hello.
Avatar 12:09am Jherweg:

Yeah something like that... Howdy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12am Nardo:

Hey Jonathan! Nice surprise!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12am Ike:

All right! Welcome back! Beware though! Drooling zombie hippie Deadheads might become enraged at the interruption in their weekly dose of goofy loose-sounding Dead bootlegs and... throw their empty patchouli bottles at you. Then they'll think about possibly chasing or biting you, but something will distract them and they'll wander away.
Avatar 12:13am Jeremy Turkinson:

Hello all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am Aitch:

Nice. Alt-Jeff.
Avatar 12:16am Jeremy Turkinson:

Can we please get a female to say hello on @wfmu? It's not all guys, is it? Weird.
Avatar 12:19am Jherweg:

Is that all I am to you guys? Alt-Jeff? I'm a person with feelings and I missed the twin peaks finale for this damn it!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20am joeray:

Nice to hear you on the airwaves, Jonathan! Are you still going to be doing fill-ins on WFMU? I thought you weren't going to be doing shows anymore due to work. Anyway, glad to hear another edition of Blurred and Obscured.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am Aitch:

Girls are scared of Jeff. He has an Armadillo in his trousers. Alt-Jeff is good, my bad. As not a Deadhead this is a welcome relief.
Avatar 12:23am Jherweg:

Maybe my wife is listening ... ?
  12:26am Sally G:

Girls - and women - aren't scared of Jeff. It's the other way around, which is why he mostly plays songs by dudes. Alt-Jeff (aka Jonathan) usually has more diverse tastes, hence why I am listening now.
  12:34am rw:

Hey! It's Alt-Jeff! Nice!
Avatar 12:37am Jherweg:

Alt-Jeff minus the Dead bootlegs.
  12:38am rw:

Thanks Mr. Herweg for filling in tonight. Sorry you had to miss that season finale. I haven't seen any of it but I know it's a big deal. My guess is that the conclusion will be more open-ended than conclusive though.
Avatar 12:38am Jherweg:

Well once it's over I won't have anything to look forward to.
  12:39am rw:

Ha! See? Now you still have something to look forward to!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am Ike:

Ugh, I missed it too, and I just navigated incorrectly and got hit with a baffling spoiler on Facebook. What a drag.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am Aitch:

Watch Preacher, that's off the chart.
Avatar 12:40am Jherweg:

I'll have to go back to watching non stop Houston flood victims holding 'We love Trump signs'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am Ike:

I've seen the first 6 episodes or so of Preacher. It's pretty entertaining but it's hard to tell where the fuck it's going. Kind of directionless. I hear season 2 gets more on track.
  12:44am Pete L:

this music is very now. Thanks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am Aitch:

Keep at it, the madness accelerates.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am fleep:

It was very now. Now it's very then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am Aitch:

Zen is always now....
  12:51am mark Flynn:

Nice follow up to Dave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53am fleep:

But is everything Zen? Everything Zen?
I don't think so.
Avatar 12:54am Billy Jam:

Really enjoying all the show selections - Sorry your job fell through - But now lots of time to locate cool Matlock samples for upcoming fill-ins. - Hi Ike and fleep and all else tuned into F M U
  12:55am rw:

Man, I'm sorry about the job falling through. That blows. Glad you'll be able to indulge in The Rockford Files and some FMU fill-ins though.
  12:57am keeky:

Wife listening
  12:57am rw:

Weird. I think I just copied Billy Jam's comment.
  12:57am Tidy666:

Nice to hear you on jherweg...I was just listening to a past show of yours I had on a tape...expected the ghetto...but a pleasant surprise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02am Switchblade Batman:

RE: News ratings. This is what happens when we make network news into a profit engine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02am εἶk:

@rw: I was independently about to type "that blows" too!
  1:08am rw:

Ike, Ha! Great minds, I guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11am fleep:

If Trump deports enough people something's bound to turn up.
  1:15am mark Flynn:

Yah, I'm an atheist too, and I'm torn between the tragedy of the people on the ground in the Houston area and the politics of those affected. Those who live in Houston for the most part vote democratic, but as you get to Beaumont you're in serious Trump/ Abbott territory. It's hard to feel empathy for those who sided with Cruz and crew who didn't want to support federal funding for Sandy victims ( many of which were on Statin Island and vote Cruz ). I definitely support full on assistance, but I also know those who support Trump, Cruz, Abbott, and their rep, well they feel like they're getting what's due when in reality they've been takers for at least 30 years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am ἶkε:

That's a little harsh. Also, pop. of Houston: 2.3 million. Pop. of Beaumont: 118k. Port Arthur: 55k. So still much more blue than red. Keep in mind only 52% of TX went Drumpf. Dems have to get out there and work on flipping that state. It can be done -- by 2028 at the latest, w/changing demographics it should be very possible, but you have to start now.
  1:27am Tidy666:

Yeah..they hate us...we hate them....when ya'all gonna realize the one party two faction system has been fukin the pants off of us?
Avatar 1:28am Jherweg:

All these mcmansion conservatives hate socialism and deny climate change until a natural disaster forces them to ask the government to bail them out from the harsh effects of a warming ocean
  1:29am Tidy666:

Goddess help us!
Avatar 1:34am Mark R:

This Gas record is a gas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34am Aitch:

You'll freak out here in Australia then. We'll be all over you like a rash.
  1:34am Eric Hat:

Not sincere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34am Switchblade Batman:

@Jherweg, I was saying similar. Because of that crap I'm really having a hard time feeling sorry for them.
  1:35am Eric Hat:

Why I'm coming home. Honesty is way more 'chill' than smiley faces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35am Switchblade Batman:

@Aitch, Australia is my backup if this place goes to total hell. At least the beaches are nice.
Avatar 1:35am coelacanth∅:

  1:36am mark Flynn:

Point taken. I think you might be a little more generous regarding leaning democratic than those who vote ( St Louis as an example ). Anger "Trumps" logic. The Republican Party will dominate 2018. Even with owning all branches of government their base is so much more motivated.

In CA: the light is red, there's no cars as far as the eye can see, and they wait for the walk sign. I can't take it.

Great set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36am Aitch:

It's just end of winter here and already hot, plenty of room.
Avatar 1:36am fred:

Hello Jonathan and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37am Aitch:

Hardcore Henry was amazing, rather violent thought. Just Saw Get Out, interesting take on race, scary stuff.
Avatar 1:37am Mark R:

23 skidoo was a slang phase which originated in the early 20th century meaning "to leave quickly." Its origins are in dispute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38am Aitch:

We'd say POQ (piss off quick), means a getaway
  1:44am mark Flynn:

By the way, I don't want to confuse my conversation with Ike with Jonathan, who I'll reiterate is doing a great show. I should be going to sleep...
Avatar 1:47am Jherweg:

Terje Rypdal Is the Al Di Meola of norway.
Avatar 1:50am coelacanth∅:

well, mark, i can relate to your secondary point @1.36. it's a symptom of how childish people in adult bodies are, thanks to the government and their media machine.
the short-term, personal solution that i choose in my town is to walk past them and not give a shit if they choose to waste their time waiting like obedient children. i will never make them grow up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51am Switchblade Batman:

I was there during an Aussie winter @Aitch, I must say I prefer those to ours.
  1:52am rw:

Jherweg, Jumping backward in the conversation a bit, the job falling through is a bummer, but you are very lucky to have a wife who loves you enough to stay up and listen to your radio show.
Avatar 1:53am Jherweg:

Yes she's the best!! Although I'm sure shes passed out by now..
  1:54am rw:

Not that the show isn't worth staying up for, but you know what I mean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55am Aitch:

'Twas a fine show, thanks JH
  1:56am mark Flynn:

Hi saw Al Dimeola with Return To Forever in Symphony Hall in Boston in 76? Awesome show. Can't listen to the 2 albums they put out without cringing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56am fleep:

Would just like to point out that walking without the walk light is a citation and a heavy fine because 1/5 traffic deaths here are peds flying thru the air. So we're kind of trained, if that is infantile so be it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59am Aitch:

So they flop, Fleep?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01am fleep:

Eventually, yes.
  2:01am Bayta:

Yo JH, listening live to your show after forever.
  2:01am rw:

I saw a pedestrian fly through the air once. Not at a crosswalk. I think he was okay but he did a cartwheel over the car and had a pretty bad raspberry over a good portion of his body.
  2:02am mark Flynn:

Hi Fleep, jaywalking is an art that flourishes in the northeast but not elsewhere. Pedestrian injuries are most likely to occur here with the walk sign and the green to go left.
  2:03am Bayta:

Very strange to wake up to it and listen in broad daylight though. Your show used to help me get through late night last minute work rush.
Avatar 2:04am coelacanth∅:

i guess if i lived somewhere that enforced fining people who choose efficiency and conservation of resources by not bringing all traffic to a halt so i can cross no more safely than if i didn't bring all traffic to a halt then i'd have to add looking carefully for cops to my routine of crossing the street without a walk light.
  2:15am mark Flynn:

Coelacanth: very succinct. If I'm at 96th and Broadway I'm not crossing Willy Nilly, while on 14th street I'm fairly confident, no cars, no bikes, I'm crossing.
  2:20am 23 Skidoo:

22 skidoo and 23 skidoo can be used interchangably. The phrase originated in New York City. It was the result of policemen having to disperse groups of pervey men who would hang out near the 23rd street subway stop to watch womens skirts get blown up by air coming up from the subway airshaft through the sidewalk. 23rd street is the flatiron district and was known for a high concentration of women office workers.
  2:35am mark Flynn:

Who knew. Thanks for the 23 skidoo history.
  2:44am rw:

Thanks JH. Good night all!
Avatar 2:46am Jherweg:

Thanks Everyone!!! See you When I See You !!
Avatar 2:48am coelacanth∅:

Excellent program Jonathan (i did hear most of it in the car before i got home and to this computer) i wish i heard your whole rant though, since it seemed to've sparked such conversation! i guess your mic break was right when i was out of my car and booting up my computer.
