A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Webhamster Henry:

You should be playing Laurie Spiegel. Anything from "The Expanding Universe" will do.
  9:19am baker nick:

love this
Avatar 9:20am Trouble:

Love laurie spiegel!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am adampsyche:

omg this song is great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am Passaic River Blues:

Love the rhythm on this one. Funky, nyabinghi flourishes, dubbyness--awesome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am melinda:

hi everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am Adrian in London:

Hello squirrels!! Snowed under at work so listening not chatting. Sounding good though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am adampsyche:

this ended up on the latest A Tribe Called Quest if I'm not mistaken (Whateva Will Be track)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am adampsyche:

  9:37am Mark Williams:

@Trouble - it's the same cut as the original 1975. You have a more recent pressing (not sure if it's a boot or not) by a label that is just putting songs that were never paired together originally. DJ culture reissue, in other words.
  9:38am dfb:

start every set with it !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Itzall Ablurr:

Regarding today's minimalist/abstract artwork- I'm seeing a hockey skirmish with the guy on the lower right heading down ice after bowling over the guy up top, who appears to also be a Pittsburgh Penguin. Go Jaromir! Also, may I have one more large coffee, please?...
  9:40am Mark Williams:

also, I think it might've been a take on an earlier reggae song by Carlton & the Shoes, but I need to listen closely again to see if I'm right. Have a listen yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4M3b1UhIzc
Avatar 9:42am Sem Chumbo:

Oh, yeah. What a groove.
Avatar 9:42am Trouble:

thanks @markwilliams. will look that up and listen later. howdy adrian!

Dear miles, here's ONE example of a very angry one:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Michele:

Damn Trouble, GREAT show so far.
Avatar 9:49am Waking Bacon:

Chain and the Gang :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am The Oscar:

I remember a PBS spot a few years ago that used the Clash's version of this to promote their weekly schedule (for the "Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday" bit). It was a little surreal to hear "Police On My Back" over clips of Arthur.
Avatar 9:51am Trouble:

merci! @michele!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am adampsyche:

i like this better than the original
Avatar 9:55am Marc Francis:

Trouble/Listeners: do you know whether your premium has been sent out yet?
  10:03am Mark Williams:

@Trouble - no no, i meant it's the original version of the dub. sorry for the confusion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am The Oscar:

For years I couldn't figure out why Jonathan Richman named his clearly-not-reggae instrumental "Egyptian Reggae." Then I heard this, and my mind was blown.
  10:05am Sig:

Trouble on the waves!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Passaic River Blues:

@Adrian: I don't know if it's been mailed but McGasko and Daddy Garbage have played songs from it, so it seems it should be in the post soon enough. Looking forward to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Adrian in London:

@Passaic Thanks. I'll be patient. *Is not patient*
  10:12am emily:

Hola Trouble!
Avatar 10:17am Trouble:

hello emily, guido, late comers all!
I have my compilation in my hands as i write, well that would explain any typos. it has just been fabricated and is ready to roll. i think. since i am not in charge of that end of the magic factory...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Greg from ZONE 5:

SO PSYCHED for the show tomorrow.

Avatar 10:24am Waking Bacon:

Ty Trouble this song is a blessing. "om rama" :) just feels soothing to the soul.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Ike:

Greetings, you wonderful awful damn dirty hippies! This Alice Coltrane is lovely. How dare she try to elevate my consciousness into the new age! I'm outraged about how my mind's eye is floating in outer space right now. Ooo, look, it's Neptune!
Avatar 10:26am Trouble:

thanks @waking bacon. we certainly need all the blessings we can get right now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am Webhamster Henry:

It's nice that Luaka Bop is still putting out and collecting great material!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Passaic River Blues:

@PRB: I do indeed know Lisbon Wines! It's down the street from Oporto Wines. My wife likes tasty, no frills stuff from the Douro Valley. However, as I never have any idea what I'm talking about, I appreciate the guys in Lisbon ever ready to help me out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Passaic River Blues:

@Trouble, of course.
  10:35am tuskandhusk:

Well often rastas are sexist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Adrian in London:

the hippies I am staying with make two hours of kitchen noise and produce screwed fried potatoes. they aren't baked so they are watery and crunchy and chopped into bits. one day I showed them the proper way to do it and one asked my why I was 'frying cheese'
