Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Listener comments!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40am annie:

not sure how long i can listen, in the final stages of moving-mode.. gm everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44am listener james from westwood:

Morning, annie and UM and all! Envisioning UM working out the kinks in the batting circle, and maybe stacking the Kinks near the record player!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47am annie:

i've been so absent from the comments boards. been renning around mucho much. have all my stuff loaded at the space into which i'm moving.. even dragged the food from the old fridge. arranging a floor plan suits this jigsaw puzzle fan greatly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49am Uncle Michael:

This show can't start a moment too soon. I mean it. If it starts too soon I might not have enough to make it through six hours.

Good morning, everyone. Moving sucks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49am annie:

hey UM, you could just apply the "astronaut method" to your programming routine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51am annie:

yep, moving sucks.. thank god/dess for hunky strong male friends. the pay-off of lunch and ice cream was worth it. and i got my beer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51am Uncle Michael:

What is the astronaut method?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52am Uncle Michael:

I'm not making six hours without a beer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57am annie:

picture a love-sick lady astronaut using an adult diaper to drive the 12 hours or so to florida to meet her paramour, only to be rejected.. this is a real story.. she was arrested, too... for harrassment
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00am Stanley:

How is Charles Bradley? He has to cancel a tour here recently due to illness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am Stanley:

Sheesh, this sort of sound was what my folks were into in the sixties. Obviously, it was the antithesis of what I liked. Now, I kinda go with smooth cheesy stuff.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Uncle Michael:

Floss screws with the reception, Dean?
  12:58pm Dean:

More like spittle screws with the laptop on which I'm listening, which makes me anxious, and then the floss ends up fraying. Meanwhile, I'm trying to pay attention to the music, which causes me to mess up the flossing, hence more spittle. Why must life be so tragically flawed?

  1:02pm Alex In Illinois:

My floss gets frayed even without the radio on.
  1:04pm Dean:

Surely not. My preamp is by now vintage. The DAC is an odd bird, and I'm not sure what input I'd use. HDMI? Anyway, I avoid the streaming thing on the main system, even web radio.

The floss I use is both brand name and generic. Results vary.
  1:07pm Alex In Illinois:

My wife gave me a Bluetooth speaker last year. So when I floss, the smartphone is on the window sill out of spittle's way, while the speaker is atop the medicine cabinet. So that eliminates any issues with the radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Uncle Michael:

I have many methods. One is a bluetooth speaker from phone, laptop or tablet.

Jeff, but it wasn't officially true until the Good Grey ran it. "What do you mean it isn't true -- it was in the New York Times!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Jeff g.: But "the NYTimes" fits better in the song. Poetic license!
  2:46pm davefromtoronto:

you're almost there Uncle!

  2:46pm Jeff g.:

Donut mind me. Just being an idiot.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, UM! It's been great having you on all morning!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks everyone. I'm still enjoying myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Parq:

"Madman" and "Chateau were both great, as was my first EJ purchase, "11/17/70". But I've really come to dig "Yellow Brick" more and more with the passage of time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Parq:

UM @ 2:38: Not a bit. Just curious.
Avatar 2:51pm geezerette:

We're still enjoying yourself too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Uncle Michael:

Whew!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm The Oscar:

Oh man-- I've only heard the "fake English" version of this song (which is also imminently YouTubable)!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Doug Schulkind:

As a kid, I used to know all the lyrics to all Elton records. Then I became a drummer and stopped paying attention to lyrics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm The Oscar:

Ahh, wait-- there it is :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm The Oscar:

Also KEN!!
Avatar 2:54pm burke:

I love that fake English that Celentano deploys.
Avatar 2:54pm geezerette:

Oh man, Ken Nordine. :)
Avatar 2:57pm Listening Out There:

It's Ken Nordine...and it's not "Word Jazz"... :)
Avatar 2:59pm Spaniel:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm listener james from westwood:

Amazing, masterful mega-show. Many thanks, UM! Go hit the showers or, even better, the couch for a nap!
