Listener comments!

  3:07am Mike tp:

bouncy indeed!!!
Avatar 3:11am markr:

Welcome, Mike!
Avatar 3:11am BEAVO:

Checking in from Athens Georgia home of REM, yes the song is So. Central Rain not necessarily "southern". Apart from I'm Sorry, the rest of the "lyrics" are just mumbling.
Avatar 3:12am markr:

I saw it written out as "Southern" today on the deluxe edition, but the person who wrote that could just as likely be mistaken!
Avatar 3:13am BEAVO:

Southern would be just S. not So.
Avatar 3:15am BEAVO:

Ea We No? No.
Avatar 3:16am markr:

Well, at least we can all agree that it's a cool tune!
Avatar 3:18am BEAVO:

Little America is my favorite on Reckoning.
Avatar 3:19am BEAVO:

Serious Bop!
Avatar 3:19am markr:

I don't think there's a bad song on that album.
Avatar 3:20am BEAVO:

I guess BG is pre bop.
Avatar 3:22am BEAVO:

This is one with Sing Sing with A Swing.
Avatar 3:24am markr:

That's the one, Beavo!
Avatar 3:25am BEAVO:

Mike Mills is a great guy certain other members have a reputation around Athens not so much.
  3:26am Mike tp:

superduper Mingus
Avatar 3:27am BEAVO:

But I won't go there even though I kinda just did!
Avatar 3:27am markr:

You're talking about Stipe, of course. Well, if being a nice guy was a prerequisite for airplay, I wouldn't have too many choices. I don't think even Beethoven would make the cut. Yea, Mike, that Mingus album has grown to be an all-time favorite.
Avatar 3:28am BEAVO:

Lawsuite! Randy California wrote that!
Avatar 3:29am BEAVO:

Well the first few notes anyway I'll shut up now an d listen, greet show!
Avatar 3:29am markr:

I'm familiar with "Taurus," and I have to say, while Led Zeppelin undoubtedly plagiarized a lot of tunes, I don't think this is one of them. There are some similarities, but not enough. That's just my opinion. (And the judge's.)
  3:30am Mike tp:

thanks Mark for the sounds.reslly tasty.turning in!!
Avatar 3:31am markr:

Glad you're enjoying, Beavo, and I'm enjoying your comments. You've been a regular listener since Day One for me, and of the station probably for decades, right?
Avatar 3:32am BEAVO:

True nobody ever mentions the Small Faces tune that was pretty much note for note on How Many More Times, not to mention Dazed And Confused.
Avatar 3:33am BEAVO:

Right on!
Avatar 3:33am BEAVO:

Thanks Mark.
Avatar 3:38am markr:

"Dazed and Confused" has been well-documented. Hadn't heard about the Small Faces tune, but it doesn't surprise me one bit. It wouldn't surprise me to find out they'd stolen every single song they "wrote." The cats sure could play, thought, I'll give 'em that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01am Guido from Cologne:

Good morning Mark!
I happen to consider the Early Years box.

Led Zep?
Copycat behaviour even started in the late Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page "composed" Davy Grahams improvisations on "She Walked Through The Fair" !962 rare EP) and just added some tablas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03am Guido from Cologne:

... good old Ummagumma ...
... possibly the most influential album by the Floyd ...
... encouraged generations of experimental musicians ...
... "if EMI publishes stuff like tat" ...
Avatar 4:04am markr:

Me too, Guido, but it's so damned expensive! We have an abbreviated 2-disc version here at the station.
  4:41am listener james from westwood:

Would have loved to see these two in concert during the current tour.
Avatar 4:43am markr:

Should be a great show, James!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52am pacific standard simon:

Home from work at last! Good morning Mark and everybody.
Avatar 4:52am markr:

Welcome, Simon--long time no see!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54am pacific standard simon:

Ah, but I've been known to use the FMU app to listen at work. I just can't be stopping work to chat.
Avatar 4:55am Sem Chumbo:

Hello and good morning, Mark, and all, around the circle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01am pacific standard simon:

Somewhere I have a naked picture of Debby Harry before she dyed her hair.
Avatar 5:11am markr:

Welcome, Sem!
Avatar 5:14am Alison in London:

Morning Mark, enjoying the show.
Avatar 5:14am markr:

Welcome, Alison, nice to have you with us!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31am pacific standard simon:

You know what word "class" has in it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31am Guido from Cologne:

Franz Liszt?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32am Guido from Cologne:

This is my ringtone-tune actually ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32am pacific standard simon:

I go for the Spike Jones version of this tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47am pacific standard simon:

The Sun Also Rises. Just in case you thought The Incredible String Band was sui generis...
  5:51am goyim in the am:

"Dream of Love" is so totally a song title it could be on a Lady Antebellum album, man!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54am pacific standard simon:

Liebstraume No.3 by Spike Jones, I kid you not:

Avatar 5:57am markr:

I don't know who's nuttier, Spike Jones for his arrangement, or you for knowing about it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58am pacific standard simon:

My favorite thing on this morning's show was the Benny Goodman Sextet number.
Avatar 5:58am markr:

Thanks for tuning in, everybody! See you next week! Stay cool out there.
