A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

The artwork today somehow reminds me of Irwin's from yesterday. Same brand of paint, maybe? www.wfmu.org...

Good morning all! I love the mornings when meetings don't interrupt my WFMU habit! What is the name of this artwork?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am Trouble:

o good for you meredith! the painting is called 'the great parade'. from 1944
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am melinda:

Great painting. I do see the relationship w/Irwin's painting of yesterday.

“Have you seen the shit out there?”
Avatar 10:05am northguineahills:

steel wool and caulk plugged up all of our mice entrances. Never saw them after that.
  10:06am Andrea:

Great show trouble!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am The Oscar:

The second best thing about living in a neighborhood filled with renegade cats is almost no mice ever live long enough to get into the house. The best part is seeing cats all the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am geegee vindaloo:

Grew up with Rocky and Bullwinkle, Fractured Fairytales..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am The Oscar:

@geegee Same. Her voice is so recognizable and ubiquitous that it's hard to imagine a world without it. What a legend.
  10:08am JakeGould:

I feel you Trouble… I have had to shove tons of steel wool into cracks in the walls in my apartment and then spackle things up… But not for mice… But for HUGE ass roaches.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am Ike:

I'd advise you get a cat, but unfortunately a lot of cats just aren't mousers.
  10:12am JakeGould:

@Ike: If you can get your hands on a good deli cat, that will do the trick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am Trouble:

weird thing is i have a stray ish cat (now neutered)that lives in my yard( fed by neighbor) and a few more kittens have just arrived this spring. still mice...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am melinda:

Bird music!
  10:14am JakeGould:

@Trouble: I bet they are all in cahoots.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Greg from ZONE 5:

I have befriended a marina cat in Liberty State Park. He's always there when I'm jogging and we get along great. I'll ask him if he's looking for work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Webhamster Henry:

I'm glad you're getting back to the Rothenberg!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am The Oscar:

We have names for all the cats in our neighborhood. The best is Awesome Cat-- he'll bound out in front of you and roll on his back, then run ahead of you and do it again if you keep walking without petting him. Awesome Cat is awesome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am Trouble:

we have names for them too! @ the oscar. the main oldest girl is dotty and my fave new grey kitten is gris-gris
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am The Oscar:

Aw, Gris-Gris! Kitties are the best.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Ike:

@Jake@10:14, you mean like Sampson and the Church Mice? www.librarything.com...
  10:25am JakeGould:

@Trouble: When I lived in rapidly gentrifying Downtown Brooklyn few years back there was this orange neighborhood stray cat that had two names that was a perfect sign of the gentrification happening: Old school neighborhood folks just called the cat “Pumpkin.” Newer folks would call the cat—wait for it—“Camus.” As explained to me it was in honor of the cat being “The Stranger.”

Just call the blessed orange cat “Pumpkin” already.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am Megaroni:

Beautiful greetings to you Trouble, love your show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am The Oscar:

My old neighborhood had an enormous orange cat we named Heathcliff. Heathcliff clearly ran the neighborhood, and took to sleeping on the hoods of strangers' cars. If you wanted to move your car, well, you'd just have to wait.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am Trouble:

omg @ jakegould, that is priceless! merci bien @megaroni! cheers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Trouble:

that is also a great tale @the oscar. My neighborhood mayor cat is Nelson, but he would rather follow you into your house, than sleep on a car hood
  10:38am JakeGould:

Also, I have a “Tale of Two Kitties” experience. I’m working late at night like 10 years ago take a walk around the block and stop to check out the strays.

They’re always skittish, but this this one stray just bounces towards me… Weird… Has a collar on with a number. I make note of it. And then the cat runs across the street to a bush in a schoolyard and sits next to a cat that looks exactly like it. Sits and sits. They look at each other a while. And then they split.

I call the number from that one cat’s collar and they told me the cat wasn’t lost, but a litter was born in their yard. The one with the collar was the only one that wanted to stay with humans. The rest became strays again. And the one “domesticated” stray likes to go out at night to hang out with it’s sibling every once in a while and then head back home. They always met under the same bush.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am robin:

♡♡♡♡ this am. And the painting is awesome. I want to make costumes like them : )
  10:41am Mark R:

Digging the old school musique français you're spinning for us this am, Trouble.

Great show this morning, Trouble. Also, JakeGould's "Tale of Two Kitties" is delightful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am Greg from ZONE 5:

Feeling this
  10:59am Mark R:

See, that's the danger of having that French dude on your mic break music--just when you're ready to say something, HE says something.
Avatar 11:02am Lixiviated Life:

I could use a little more bird song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Passaic River Blues:

"Afro-Filipino" is a monster record and this song is magic.
Avatar 11:05am PKNY:

@Trouble: did you go to see Joe in Staten Island on Friday? I went, and it was insanely good. He finished w/ "What Good is a Castle", and actually did a cover of Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody" that completely slayed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am Trouble:

no way!!!@PKNY! i saw him at lincoln center and he opened with what good is a castle! i would have loved to see him in state island. what about a 5 borough tour?

Anybody know any of these performers?
Avatar 11:34am PKNY:

Never been to Brewerytown Beats, but I follow their IG page, and they are constantly bringing the heat. @Trouble, how much did that Joe Bataan record set you back, if I may ask?
Avatar 11:34am riley:

Noooo, my wife Yoong from Malaysia has an equally hard time with brewery, of which there are many here in Asheville (Beer City USA) alas.
