Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am Jeff Golick:

Ha. Yes, of course. Thanks, @Howard F.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Jeff Golick:

Trying something new on the playlist, with the album covers. Welcome your thoughts - too cluttered? Nice to see?
Avatar 9:24am northguineahills:

Dig the album covers...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am listener james from westwood:

Very welcome! Thanks for grabbing and posting these!
Avatar 9:25am glenn:

i came for the sleater-kinney, i stayed for the lynyrd skynyrd jokes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Jeff Golick:

Hey, good morning, @northguineahills and @glenn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Jeff Golick:

I saw Bill Mac doing the covers thing on Friday and came to understand that they don't all have to be pre-uploaded to the FMU servers, which I had thought was the case...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am doctorjazz:

love this Blues for Julius and Abdul. Hi all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am listener james from westwood:

Sheila likewise pops them up throughout her show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Jeff Golick:

Greetings, @doctorjazz!
  9:33am JtotheK:

Hi everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am doctorjazz:

Love the album covers, nice addition.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

It's way kewl - but they don't all download for me...my ancient Mac & so browser are getting really painfully outdated...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am listener james from westwood:

ataraxia = "a lucid state of robust equanimity." The SubGeniii would call that Slack.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am Jeff Golick:

Hi hi hi, @JtotheK!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Jeff Golick:

Thanks for that, @ljfw. It's something to shoot for, at least.
Avatar 9:43am Howard F:

Picked up Cohran's On the Beach last week having no idea he passed away. They were playing it at the record store, and I picked it up on the spot. I googled him and realized he died the previous day, what a bummer :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Jeff Golick:

Yeah, that's tough to find a new thing only to realize that it's gone. Something from that album coming up, btw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Jeff Golick:

That said, seems like you have a hip record store nearby?
Avatar 9:51am Howard F:

Thanks Jeff. I picked it up at Good Records in the East Village. Found an original copy of Maggot Brain there a few months ago. They have some great stuff there, but my first destination is Academy on 12th.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am Jeff Golick:

Wait, the EV still has good (Good) record stores? I'll be damned.

I think WFMU's own Jeff Conklin works at Academy.
Avatar 9:58am Howard F:

Yes! I usually see him at the Greenpoint locale. He's turned me on to some amazing stuff. He also works at 12th street. Where do you like to shop?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Jeff Golick:

Sadly, I don't really hit the stores anymore. Once Other Music closed, I just stopped going. I was pretty much purely digital at that point, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Doug Schulkind:

That Nick Mazzarella/Tomeka Reid performance was huge. As is this historic Cohran creation. Serving my mood muchly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am Jeff Golick:

Here to serve, @Doug. Glad to hear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Stanley:

Food for my mood, too.
Heyo Jeff, fellow listeners.
Avatar 10:06am Howard F:

I remember when OM opened. Had a handful of friends that worked there. Not sure why they didn't capitalize on the whole vinyl resurgence? I think they might've just been ready to call it a day...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Jeff Golick:

Massive Cohran interview here: never-the-same.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Jeff Golick:

Ahoy, @Stanley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Jeff Golick:

@Howard F: re calling it day, yes, I think that's largely true.
  10:09am doca:

Hey, @Jeff G: finally being able to catch D:O radio live again. These Phil Cohran tracks are making my duty of dishwashing way more enjoyable than it would be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am listener james from westwood:

This is why the FMU Record Fair is such a priceless event. Vinyl has a home there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @doca, my man!
  10:15am Doctorjazz:

this is a great bless track, love it!
  10:15am Doctorjazz:

...blues..
  10:17am doca:

I had the chance to go to OM the time I went to NY and I must say it was great precisely because they didn't seem to want to capitalyze on the vinyl resurgence. They could be a Rough Trade, but they weren't.
Avatar 10:20am Howard F:

@doca: I see your point, I guess having managed a record store for a few years myself, I always think maybe I could've made it work?
Avatar 10:22am Brian in UK:

Hello Jeff & jazz buffs (but not in the buff)
See you have gone down the cover display route.

doca how is life south of the Equator?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am doctorjazz:

I've seen that album cover somewhere before...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Jeff Golick:

Dear @Brian in UK, welcome. My pre-show walks with the dog have increased the likelihood that I'll have pants on for this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Doug Schulkind:

The AACMpler is a title of genius.
Avatar 10:27am Howard F:

Signing off. Great show! Will definitely tune in again!!
  10:28am doca:

@Howard: yes, it seems the odds are always against you if you have a small business. In their case, the odds were greater against OM because of its location. It might seem naïve, but it's nice they didn't take the easy route into "sell out".

@Brian: it's great. New city, new job, lots of stuff to keep me busy, besides dishwashing! And you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @Howard F! Delighted to see you here. Take care.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am doctorjazz:

Bit of psychedelic feel...
Avatar 10:38am Brian in UK:

doca well at my advanced years, sixty five next Sunday. I have just retired (sorry to have to tell you that). Now that three daughters are all grown, we are going to move out of the large town to either a small one or to the country. Trying to clear out all the crap that gathers.
Avatar 10:41am glenn:

clear out the crap, and put it in your brand new shed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Doug Schulkind:

Think of all les jerks who didn't love Pierre Henry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Jeff Golick:

Pre-birthday wishes to you, @Brian, and congrats on reaching retirement.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...but...there's so much overt humor & charm to it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...it's like being grumpy about Miro or Alexander Calder...
Avatar 10:47am Brian in UK:

Jeff it is surviving retirement that is the trick. Like most things in life there is no training.

glenn are you trying to turn me into Arthur 'Two Sheds' Jackson?
  10:48am doca:

Happy birthday, @Brian. Aren't you glad that you're retiring? I'm beginning my work career (as a scholar starting late - I'm 30 - is not that unusual) and the prospects are not much exciting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Doug Schulkind:

Big happiness to you, Brian in UK! You a man who brings joy deserves it doubly in return. Triply even.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am listener james from westwood:

Yes, @Brian, many congrats on reaching both milestones (I'm counting the birthday early!).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am 'Two Sheds' Stanley:

I wish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am doctorjazz:

Happy Birthday @Brian! Not far behind you age wise, but probably working for a while still. Friends I have that have retired seen to mostly be doing child care for grandchildren.
Avatar 10:56am Brian in UK:

Stanley, two sheds. REALLY. Photographic evidence.

Thanks everyone. As a special treat you can all have this Summer chest infection my wife gave me as an early present.

@doc that is a feature over here too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yes Joyeux Solar Return & Retirement Brian in UK !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am 'Two Sheds' Stanley:

A man can dream, Brian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

You Brian after all are the one I quote from your profile:
...'We are normal and we want our freeform, yes FMU is the home of radio that has grown up. A sophisticated system that hides behinds a seemimgly juvenile facade.'...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Jeff Golick:

...leaf blower across the street now, I can't believe it.
Avatar 11:04am Brian in UK:

Jeff, I saw someone using a leaf blower properly last Autumn push all the leaves together into a huge pile then burn or bag up. Not relocate into drains.
  11:04am Dean:

sigh-DI-ree-uhl
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Doug Schulkind:

Leaf-Blower Suite, by Pierre Henry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'Sidereal' means 'by the star'. For instance - the Astrology generally known is in fact Tropical - by the Seasons & the Tropics: Aries begins the Zodiac @ Vernal Equinox, the beginning of Spring. However, some go by the actual stars & constellations, which shift position because the Earth wobbles on its axis. This is 'Sidereal'. India's Astrology is sidereal...
Avatar 11:05am Brian in UK:

Neil Young wrote 'A Man Needs a Maid' he must have meant a shed. Poor misguided model train buff.
Avatar 11:08am glenn:

i wish i had only two sheds worth of stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am Doug Schulkind:

I adore Marilyn Crispell. After the Rain melts me. John Coltrane. John Coltrane. John Coltrane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

(...the word is used in Astronomy & the Sciences of course also...)
...I pay for a U-Haul storage which is breaking me...close enuff to a shed, now I think of it...
Yes evokes Trane. <3
Avatar 11:10am glenn:

some wag has called trump's appearance at the G20 "national buffoon's european vacation".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am doctorjazz:

Lovely Crispell, not what I've generally expected from her playing...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am doctorjazz:

Gotta go soon, out of town, wedding in Boston, great week All, thanks, Jeff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am Jeff Golick:

Enjoy, and thanks for being here from Beantown, @doctorjazz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Doug Schulkind:

I have to run out, too. Heart-filling effort, Mr Golick.

I think I first heard it via a Lyres cover.
Avatar 11:32am Brian in UK:

Jeff, s'funny when you played After the Rain it reminded me of Terje Rypdal's (Ter-Rer-Yay Reep-dhal) album of the same name.

Thanks, @ljfw!

glenn one of my favourites from that time is Don't You Fret. Not on Something Else though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Jeff Golick:

Maybe that's how I got to Rypdal, too, without knowing it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Dave could come thru w/ emotional directness...'Death of a Clown' overplayed for me honestly - & derivative of 'DesolationRow'...
