This Steve Reich, perfectly matches the weather, overcast and my feeling right now...excellent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am BronwynB:

this is great. i love organs. big organs, little organs, organs of all shapes and sizes.

i realize this sounds like double entendre but i really just dig me some organs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am -Ken:

I'm being interviewed about WFMU on Ukrainian radio Tysa-FM right now:
Avatar 9:36am the Canterbury wood-elf:

I do like Steve Reich, and this is kind of interesting, but it does sound a bit like his primary inspiration, Terry Riley, having creative block.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am Passaic River Blues:

@Bronwyn: me, too. I used to work by St. Ann's on Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights and every Wednesday they'd have a lunchtime performance by rotating cast of players. Mostly liturgical stuff, some early modernist composers, but every once in a while there'd be some dude hell bent on music concrete madness. It was all great, even when it wasn't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am BronwynB:

@passaic: thats so cool!!! i wish i could have heard that!
  9:38am the jerk:

this guy LOVES organs
Avatar 9:38am northguineahills:

I could listen to this for hours....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am rsj:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Itzall Ablurr:

I could listen to this for 10 seconds.
Avatar 9:44am Cecile:

Ken, you should tell them how much America loves Verka Seduchka
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Ken From Hyde Park:

I'd like to name my radio show "Insane in the Ukraine!"
Avatar 9:45am Cecile:

By America, I mean me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am rsj:

it doesn't look like the meat donuts aren going to come up
Avatar 9:48am northguineahills:

I'm hearing Byrne and Eno's "The Jezebel Spirit" in the rhythm of Thin Lizzy...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am Greg from ZONE 5:

I heard a De La sample and an Ice Cube sample in 90 seconds. My brain is on FYAH!

  10:25am Ajay:

Yay burning spear
  10:27am Night in Seoul:

Is the Trevor Wilkins Show still on 91.5 in the NYC area? Still remember he would play this kind of stuff and some sick steel drum calypso.
Avatar 10:29am Marty McSorley:

yeah hes still on mostly calypso now but still super sick
  10:29am Ajay:

Yay delroy wilson
  10:32am JakeGould:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am Passaic River Blues:

Ellison brings the thump.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am Passaic River Blues:

Dude, my wife was talking about Father Yod this morning. If you're going to join a messianic sex cult, make sure it's one with a dope band and in-house recording studio.
Avatar 10:50am kwhitehead:

HAD no idea there was a Rother solo LP. Thanks Marty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am Greg from ZONE 5:

LOVE this album.
  10:59am mary:

Michael Rother!
  11:12am Mark R:

Dig the vibes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am BronwynB:

i love this album so goddamn much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am The Oscar:

I'm not usually an "alternate takes" obsessive, but the version of this on the Rhino reissue is mindblowing-- Arthur straight up RAPS at the end!
  11:14am Mark R:

I was obsessed with this album and especially this song so much one year that I played it every day. And I mean, as an adult, not when I was like 13 or something. I didn't discover this album until like 30 years after the fact.
Avatar 11:14am Wild Neil:

PEACE All. Love is pretty awesome.
  11:15am Mark R:

They should have been HUGE but I guess Arthur didn't like traveling or something.
  11:15am grace gold way:

love Love!!!!
  11:17am Chapelhillian:

It was first played for me during an acid trip. You can only imagine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am BronwynB:

@The Oscar: listening to that alternate take now- holy crap!
  11:19am Mark R:

It's a lot to deal with sober, I can only imagine tripping--you must've thought Arthur was the Son of God or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am The Oscar:

@Bronwyn I know-- it's so intense, and it comes out of nowhere! The first time I heard it I had to rewind to make sure I processed it right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am drr:

"Baby I'm For Real"! Love this.
Avatar 11:31am Henry:

Avatar 11:32am Cecile:

I gotta sing in an ODB or Biz Markie voice when I do karaoke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am The Oscar:

I wish ODB had lived to do a standards cover album. I would listen the hell out of that.
Avatar 11:33am Cecile:

Arther Lee's dislike of travel was the least of Love's problems.
Avatar 11:34am Cecile:

I know. He has a great sense of rhythm and while he isn't in tune, it isn't painful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am The Oscar:

@Cecile The first time I heard his version of "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" I think I listened to it ten times in a row. So great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am The Oscar:

  11:36am Mark R:

Well you're probably right, Cecile, but he sure could be brilliant when he wanted to be.
Avatar 11:43am Cecile:

Don't I know it. I saw Love once (Baby Lemonade and Arthur Lee) and he had laryngitis and only could do 45 minutes. One of the greatest shows ever.
Avatar 11:46am Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@The Oscar: Odd coincidence...I played Herb Alpert's version somewhere in my collage Wednesday. wfmu.org...
Avatar 11:48am Wilson K:

To this song, and this set, I say "yes."
Avatar 11:53am Sem Chumbo:

Wow, gob-smacking great!
Thanks, Marty. Been one wild ride. See you and all next time.
  11:54am Mark R:

Just picturing the chaos when the cocaine piñata finally busts open.
