greetings Diane and Welcome back to the steady gig
Avatar 12:08pm Diane Kamikaze:

Hi All! Happy Thursday!!! Excited to bring Tony Levin's interview to ya at 1pm. @VPriceless, I did NOT get a chance to ask him your most excellent question, because of time constraints... but it's still a pretty good talk! :) THANKS!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm BronwynB:

hey diane and everyone :D
Avatar 12:11pm V Priceless:

@DK - no sweat, it's all good! Must have been a great double bill. That PG band was a kick-ass combo!
Avatar 12:13pm Diane Kamikaze:

Thanks FISH!

Hello Diane!!
Avatar 12:16pm cosmic matrix:

What the fuck happened to Chrome? whoa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Yay, WFMU where the fun (machine) never stops!
  12:18pm Dean:

Will have to listen to Tony interview on archive. For some reason, in addition to Gabriel and KC, I think of Burt Bacharach among his many gigs.

Great to have KFM back on the "air."
  12:22pm J.Cyborg:

Check out new CHROME-Techromancy!!!

Lo and behold!

  12:35pm Tom:

What would make me so happy, well not really happy, just make me feel better about myself -- is if Tony Levin is this nerdy, dweeb with a high pitch voice, and has a personality sort of like Paul Lynd. He is an imposing figure - looks like he's about 6 foot five, with a shaved head, wow. An incredible musician. Wow. The best bassist on the planet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 12:37pm V Priceless:

what the C-Section 'voded!
Avatar 12:42pm V Priceless:

@Tom: I suspect TL has a more refined, almost James Bond coolness thing going on.....
Avatar 12:45pm Luna:

VOIVOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm late to the show today. Hola!
Avatar 12:45pm Chris from DC:

Belated Voivod!
  12:46pm Tom:

@v_priceless. I KNOW! He HAS to be like that - if he sounds anything like he looks. As far as an accent I think he's from the US. But still - if his voice sounds like how he plays bass he'll have the voice of a god - because he is a god of bass and stick - and makes all us "normal" musicians (non-stars) look very very pathetically normal. ;(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm chris:

Avatar 12:47pm Chris from DC:

Also, digging Khemmis very much.
Avatar 12:47pm Diane Kamikaze:

@Tom and others, I can't wait for you to hear him! He was very generous with his answers, knows he's a badass but is not obnoxious or arrogant at all. No dweebness, either! You'll chuckle in the beginning a little bit tho... :) I suspect that he is just so genuine that all of his interviews could last for hours.
  12:52pm Tom:

@diane. Of course. Exactly as I suspected. ;) I'm glad you're the one who is doing the interview! You rock Diane!
Avatar 12:53pm Jim Devoid:

Damn, just tuning in and missed HHIG and PI! Dad Gum!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Polyus:

Holy crap, it just dawned on me that it's been 31 years since I saw Tony with Peter Gabriel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Michael 98145:

we're all aging at the same rate, @Polyus
Avatar 1:14pm smilodoncub:

woOOOoo happy Thursday y'all!
Avatar 1:20pm Wild Neil:

PEACE all. Did he talk about King Crimson much? Just came in...
Avatar 1:21pm Wild Neil:

@Diane-so STOKED you have Tony Levin and played King Crimson. Thank you!
Avatar 1:21pm Diane Kamikaze:

The beginning of the interview was about the lineup and playing live and the aspects of having 3 drummers, etc.
Avatar 1:27pm Fox (Rā-chul):

This is such a great interview. He's clearly unfamiliar with WFMU or he wouldn't be shocked at the level of questions you are asking him.
Avatar 1:29pm Wild Neil:

@Polyus-I saw Peter Gabriel in Syracuse in 86 or 87...I did not know Tony Levin played with him! Was it the Sledgehammer tour?? Its all kinda fuzzy, it was the 80's, I was pretty high on pot.
Avatar 1:30pm Cecile:

Belew sounds good on this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm chris:

<3!!! great interview; great cover!
Avatar 1:31pm Chris from DC:

Oh thanks, I was wondering if that was Belew.
Avatar 1:31pm V Priceless:

@ Wild N: Tony has played w/PG since PG started doing solo gigs...circa '78

Fabulous interview, Diane! Great stuff! Woo!
Avatar 1:31pm Diane Kamikaze:

I know that he played on every PG record, and I would assume that he was probably on each tour as well. As Vincent Priceless told me to ask him - he was with PG when they opened for the Stranglers at Battersea Park in 1978 - the infamous gig with the strippers and the tank. I didn't have time to ask him!
Avatar 1:32pm Diane Kamikaze:

@Ra-chul! YES! I thought it was funny the way he explained that he was the bass player early ... of course what I meant was - fretted/fretless/stick/upright, etc., because we know he has quite an arsenal. So who lives in Woodstock /Kingston where he does to hip him to WFMU? :)
  1:33pm J.Cyborg:

Is this Jakko singing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm howard in nyc:

Very nice interview. Heroes was the second bass line I learned, for the first band I was in (after the obligatory Cinnamon Girl)
Avatar 1:33pm Wild Neil:

@Diane and V Priceless....thank you! Tony is such a cool dude....thanks for interviewing him, Diane....I think its a real honor for Tony to be on WFMU as WFMU is HUGE!!!!!! And WORLD WIDE. In a totally humble, free-form way....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Michael 98145:

whoa, thank you, Diane
Avatar 1:34pm Cecile:

I hope he comes back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm chris:

Avatar 1:35pm Cecile:

this is hilarious!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm chris:

out on a tag for the genuine bbs feel. classic.
Avatar 1:36pm Wild Neil:

King Crimson is my FAVORITE BAND bar none.
Avatar 1:41pm Chris from DC:

I was thinking something like this or Gorguts might be coming.
Avatar 1:42pm Chris from DC:

Avatar 1:42pm Fox (Rā-chul):

Egad, watching Tony Levin play is amazing (but sexually distracting).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I'm not too far from Kingston & Woodstock. I could don an 'FMU T-shirt and hang out on Tinker Street on Saturday afternoons.
Avatar 1:48pm Tito "Pepe" Infidado:

Kill it Kazi!!!
Avatar 1:49pm Mdurek:

whoa Stick time!
  1:50pm Nick Sakes:

Such a great interview. Thank you, Diane! I live in Kingston, NY and I remember reading a description of Stickmen when they played a show about 100 yards from our house and it didn't say anything about who was in the band so I didn't go!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm chris:

oh hell yeah, you're on a roll today, Diane! woo!
Avatar 1:50pm Diane Kamikaze:

Sounds like them Opeth boys been hanging around that Porcupine Tree critter again. He's a slippery one, but taxidermists don't sleep......
Avatar 1:56pm Fox (Rā-chul):

Nick - Part of what becomes a curse as much as a blassing, is that in NYC/NJ there are so many shows that it becomes depressingly easy to miss out on amazing performances on a regular basis because there's just no way to keep track of it all. (even if you look at the WFMU arbitrary guide)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm coelacanth∅:

i managed to hear only a few scattered bits of that interview (is work a "reason beyond my control"?) i'm psyched to hear the archive now. Tony sounded like a great guy - as well as a Great guy! ...and his voice reminds me of Joe McGasco!
Avatar 1:59pm V Priceless:

this Brann Dailor guy is not too shabby ; )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Before I discovered WFMU, I listened to KNAC over the internet and they played Opeth quite a bit.
Avatar 2:00pm Cheri Pi:

DAmnit, I missed a chance to tease Opeth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Polyus:

I wish the KC show in my town this fall wasn't so spendy.
  2:01pm Dean:

KNAC...there's a blast from the (my) past. I actually got to visit that station during its prog rock heyday.
Avatar 2:03pm Fox (Rā-chul):

Newton, NJ?! That's strange.
  2:03pm Mike tp:

Seen KC coming to SEATTLE. SORRY MISSED the interview. Archive Ville
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm BLCKDGRD:

Hi Diane, couldn't tune in until now - did Levin mention on air or off why no Belew in this edition of Crimson?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm chris:

Avatar 2:06pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

PI: Opeth-teasin' season is year 'round....
Avatar 2:08pm Diane Kamikaze:

@BLCKDGRD no he didnt. The couple of times that he mentioned Fripp as the leader/boss and his vagueness about the release, I figured he was not involved in the process and to ask would just invite conjecture. I dropped a couple of questions because of that
Avatar 2:09pm Chris from DC:

You know, I've really missed this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm chris:

me too, DC Chris
Avatar 2:15pm V Priceless:

just stumbled across a new Belew gig he's got going with Stewart Copeland called Gizmodrome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm BLCKDGRD:

@V Priceless - thanks! I'll check it out later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm chris:

Avatar 2:33pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

  2:39pm P-90:

Belew has said that he has spoken to Fripp about each recent incarnation of Crimson. He says Fripp has explained that there just wouldnt be room enough for Belew to do much in these latest drum and stick-heavy lineups.
Avatar 2:42pm V Priceless:

hate to be the drum tech in this current KC line-up..ouch!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm chris:

<looses long-awaited flaming arrows>
Avatar 2:48pm Cecile:

I missed Opeth and a bunch of other stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Ken From Hyde Park:

At least you made it for Voivod, Cecile. That's what really counts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Michael 98145:

good to have you back. thank you again, DJ Diane.
Avatar 2:54pm Chris from DC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Diane! (belated)
-got busy and missed the end of the show but now i got to hear the interview beginning to end....and what Fox said (somewhere up there) -about Tony being unfamiliar with fmu! pretty funny, but he wasn't expecting sophistication!
...really good interview.
