A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am annie:

good morning trouble, your CD is on the way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04am Trouble:

you are sooooo sweet, annie! merci beaucoup!!
  9:04am Listener Robert:

I like the Gilla Ayres mural. The blue & yellow guy in the middle is saying like, "Why are you plants all confused?" Or maybe s/he's upset that the plants are sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am Trouble:

thank you listener robert for announcing today's artist! She is a fab artist
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am Passaic River Blues:

Pretty excited for today's broadcast and hoping work intrusions will be minimal.
Avatar 9:06am northguineahills:

I love the name of this record label.
Avatar 9:07am Sem Chumbo:

Good morning, Trouble, annie, Listener Robert, PBR, NGH.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am annie:

hey sem, ... long time no see.. the 9-12 slot has been taken over by wwoz on this computer. ...less talk..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am maestroso:

That Midori Takada piece was lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am BronwynB:

good morning trouble and everyone. i did not hear "river house in tinicum" but the title suggests to me that it's about a township by the river in bucks county where i grew up...cool!
Avatar 9:19am Sem Chumbo:

@annie: that NOLA station is also on my radar. Love the sound and style of it :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am annie:

this has been a wonderful choice of morning djs of late. last sunday was kicker!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Ken From Hyde Park:

It's nice to hear the Sunday morning song on Jonesey's programme on Sunday afternoons.

good morning, all! guest david rothenberg at 11 o clock ish, and i am not ready! arg
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am melinda:

I like the painting.
  9:34am Mark R:

Karin Krog is amazing and I have to confess I wasn't aware of her until about a year ago.
Avatar 9:35am mb:

Good morning, Trouble. This Karin Krog is kinda like a lazy Petra Haden effort of a song. Ohh. Now its getting a lil like a Leon Thomas effort.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am Passaic River Blues:

@Melinda: Me, too. It's beautiful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Trouble:

you are not alone listener robert. I think she was popular in europe and within a select jazz crowd here. but thankfully, her light in the attic anthology 'don't just sing', changed that.
  9:41am Mark R:

I'm interested in hearing what constituted a "new age" record in 1950! This Constance Demby track is beautiful, though.
  9:46am Mark R:

Robert, the way I see it, the blue and yellow guy is a martini and. hasn't a care in the world.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Adrian in London:

Hello @Trouble, sorry I'm late, just been doing a bit of shopping and mooching at Borough Market, which reopened yesterday. It's buzzing today. Great to see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Trouble:

no time requirements here adrian! all swell. hope you are well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Adrian in London:

I'm champion, thanks. By the way, just got an email from Tate Modern about this artist, who's new on me. Fahrelnissa Zeid www.tate.org.uk...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Trouble:

that looks gorgeous, adrian!
  9:54am Mark R:

Wow, that's beautiful, Adrian. Such attention to detail! I'm always impressed when an artist that kind of focus and discipline.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am Ike:

Yeah that Zeid looks great. Another reason to get to the Tate Modern someday. Never been.

Uh oh, we've got desk gremlins at work, shuffling items around at night, moving my spoon, raising and lowering standing desks, swapping out people's chairs....
  9:59am Andal:

very nice set so far! Can't wait to hear the guy who talks to bugs...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Adrian in London:

I'm extremely fortunate that my current freelance gig is literally five minutes away from Tate Modern so I can pop in at lunchtime and look at a couple of rooms without doing the 'spending all day in a museum and my feet are aching now' thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Greg from ZONE 5:

Morning, Trouble and all!

now WHERE have I heard that cock's crow before...GOOD MORNING, good morning, GOOD!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am annie:

if you're of amind to find an alternative to FB, try Minds.com. it's very different; only in beta for now, but worth a look. just learning my way around. focusses on sharing more than friending.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am dgg:

i love this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Priscilla:

That Tate website is fabulous — the clarity, the typeface, the LOGO! Those Brits!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Adrian in London:

Annie, there's also www.flotsm.com an anonymous network, which is interesting. Set up by Stephen Godfroy from Rough Trade.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am Trouble:

love to find an alternate to fb.... thanks for this thread!
  10:31am Andal:

sounds like a weird cover of jet boy jet girl!
  10:32am blee:

Avatar 10:37am zingerbringer:

Man I looooove this Cosmic Machine comp! Still looking for a copy of vol. 2...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am annie:

if any of you want to "subscribe" to my channel, i am "sallyoakley"..
on minds.com..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am Trouble:

wha?? there is a volume 2? i did not know that....
Avatar 10:42am bobdoesthings:

@annie - what is this minds.com?
Avatar 10:42am βrian:

I's appealing that Minds.com is based on open source software and is community-owned, though I don't really know what that means. I just can't bring myself to mediate my online existence through a corporation.
  10:45am blee:

I really like the second Avalanches album. Subway is a great song. Since I Left You is perfect in every way though. No way to
repeat that.
Avatar 10:46am zingerbringer:

There is! I ordered it through my local shop but it never came. You USA people shouldn't have a hard time finding one...
Avatar 10:46am bobdoesthings:

yeah I was a bit bummed by the second Avalanches.. but I did like it. but in comparison to the first.. no contest.. I think also the long awaited/buildup to the second one may have raised the expectations too high..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am annie:

it's a very "new" website designed mosty to eliminate the advertising and promotional tactics of FB. it's divided into sections such as hundreds of groups, channels, blogs. a member is able to subscribe to anyone they choose. a newsfeed is full of your subscriptions and those "boosted" by the channel owner, which is easily blocked if you do not like the content. all points of view, all walks of life. many artists, musicians, and rabble rousers..
Avatar 10:51am bobdoesthings:

@annie - interesting..I'll have to investigate further.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am annie:

yes, do...you'll be drawn in, it's nice and diverse.
Avatar 10:57am meredith:

better late than never. Morning all

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Webhamster Henry:

It's really good to approach music theory from the standpoint of animal, insect, and bird song.
Avatar 11:04am βrian:

Messiaen would agree.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am steveo:

Some thoughts on this topic in a book by one of my favorite authors: "Mozart's Starling" by Lyanda Lynn Haupt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am annie:

michael pestel!!!! a good frind of mine.... i was hoping to hear his name as this conversation went by...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am steveo:

"Lyanda Lynn Haupt raised a starling of her own to see if the tale of Mozart and his starling could be true. Her experience brings the legend of musician and bird into our present world where science rules. Yet even today, the song of the starling, but a minute in length, lies at the very limits of human comprehension. Read the book and you will learn why."―David Rothenberg, author of Why Birds Sing and Survival of the Beautiful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Passaic River Blues:

Really can't express how amazing this is.
Swag For Life Member 11:08am Mikey_B:

This is awesome. Stuff like this is why FMU is a gem. Thanks, Trouble!
Avatar 11:09am bobdoesthings:

this might be a dumb question.. but can we be certain that the birds are responding to the instruments being played?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am annie:

michael is pan .... even the way he moves as he performs. he is a unique person...
  11:11am chromaphone:

I have this book and cd. So great!

My parrotlet gets really excited by two different songs by the Icelandic band múm, and does this whole call-and-response routine.
Avatar 11:15am bobdoesthings:

@semchumbo - hmmmm I dunno..this website also says that cats don't respond to music but my experience with my cat says otherwise
  11:16am will:

Who is she talking to right now? I missed the opening
  11:17am Bruce S.:

Good Morning Trouble- Great playlist as usual. Always gets me in the right state of being. Also love the image by Gillian Ayres and your art sensibility.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am tmoyo:

this is beautiful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am upsetter5001:

Fantastic show today. Thank you for pushing the topic of bird music and sound on us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am annie:

even thinking that there is no connection amongst all these noises and sounds, and how we/they interact accordingly ... this is a serious disconnect from nature.
  11:21am Listener Robert:

My friends Nadine & Charlie were regularly visited by a mockingbird (that later Nadine concluded was more likely a blue jay) who used to imitate her alarm clock. They named him Tweedle-Dee Clock Mocker -- Mockie for short. After an interval of a few years when they weren't visited by him and Charlie died, Nadine said a bird came and said, "Tweedle-dee...dee?"
  11:24am melinda:

@Passaic that's cute. A bird who likes mum.
Avatar 11:25am βrian:

My wife sometimes carries on with the local black-capped chickadees.
