"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Can someone put me out of my misery and tell me where that acoustic guitar break that was sampled at the beginning of this Rolnick track came from? SO familiar. Argh!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am Ken From Hyde Park:

A guy I rode with on my childhood school bus had a catch phrase "Wake up and die right."
Avatar 9:12am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Oh, of course... "Wake Up Little Susie". Kind of obvious...

John, I've really been enjoying your fill-ins the last couple of weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am ausmanx:

good god. modern eon, i really haven't heard this since the early eighties. i guess they're due for a revival too...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Passaic River Blues:

This set has been impeccable.
Avatar 10:39am Chris from DC:

I have not gotten a hold of any Modern Eon, but would really like to. Also, I have missed Morris Deebank, drat. Whatever happened to those Felt reissues?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am melinda:

Really enjoying the show.
Avatar 10:41am Chris from DC:

I meant Maurice
Avatar 10:41am JakeGould:

@KenFromHydePark: “Wake up and die right.” In elementary school a bunch of kids had this weird phrase they would say, “Your money or your life or your bald-headed wife.” It still makes no sense, let alone out of the mouths of kids.

that 1926 track: was that the zeromoon-label artist v from the '90s, or something wholly other?
Avatar 10:48am Chris from DC:

Wholly other.
Avatar 10:50am Marcel M:

The lyrics of that Z; song (a Thalia Zedek cover? all new to me) are just beautiful.
Avatar 11:06am fm Mike:

That Buffalo Skinners song was wild.
Avatar 11:06am fm Mike:

Every time I hear those notes, I think of Poopy Flute on Ken's Show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Barney Grubbs:

A friend of mine in college took at least one calculus class taught by Gregg Turner. sounded a little more fun than your average math class, but still a math class.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Barney Grubbs:

@JakeGould: "yer mama, yer daddy, yer bald-headed granny" was a reasonably common insult in elementary school some years back
Avatar 11:46am Chris from DC:

Oh yay, Alistair Galbraith.
  11:48am davefromtoronto:

what a great set and a great show.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am Passaic River Blues:
