A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am melinda:

Actually the doc was about the theft of FBI files and subsequent leaking, but the draft board break-ins were covered, too. It's called 1971, worth watching.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Passaic River Blues:

@Melinda: Anthony Summers also wrote a book about Hoover but I haven't read it. My wife was a sociology major and also a bit of a Nixon obsessive. It was a long time ago but I remember her reading a book about how Hoover and the Cointelpro program monitored and infiltrated university departments. Can't remember the name...

My grandfather wasn't the most liberal guy-- he was a retired Air Force colonel from the deep south-- but he HATED Nixon, and would become visibly angry whenever the topic would come up. Ah.. Melody.. I used to think this was the most romantic love song. This album could make you cry .. if you understand the basic outline of the story.. then I looked at the lyrics and decided the voice of the male while very captivating is kind of a creeper, and a bad driver. Behind teh wheel of his Rolls he hits the poor girl on her bicycle then when she is splayed out on the ground, he noticed she is: "a natural red -head " Ugh. Gotta love the French.

@bobdoesthings I normally hate when bands reform, and turned down a chance to see Slowdive's comeback gig, but this record is truly wonderful. On 'silver' vinyl (ie sort of off-white!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Passaic River Blues:

Agreed on all the Slowdive comments. This new record could have been terrible but it's wonderful. It could have been "Souvlaki Redux" but, although it is very clearly on the classic Slowdive/Halstead tip, it's also not merely a duplication of past efforts.

Also, Parlor Walls kicking it right now!
Avatar 11:48am bobdoesthings:
