Perfect way to start the show. I haven't stopped listening to this record all weekend, and Friday was an incredible day of releases!
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 12:05am AdamFromOldeKenzo:

Wooden Wand on two FMU shows in a row! This is my favorite song on the album, so far.
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 12:06am Jeff Conklin:

I really hate when I play something already getting a lot of play on the statin but this album is just the best so I'm sucking it up ;)
  Mon. 5/8/17 12:08am farting@target:

Dig this so much, thank you
  Mon. 5/8/17 12:10am Mario:

Perfect sound of the dawn (6 a.m. in Madrid) Good morning!
Mon. 5/8/17 12:10am Erik in Michigan:

I wouldn't know Wooden Wand without your show, so I'm glad you played it.
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 12:11am Jeff Conklin:

@Erik: Awesome. Isn't it the best when you discover someone with a HUGE back catalog to explore?

Y'all should list recent discoveries that fit that description tonight...
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 12:15am AdamFromOldeKenzo:

I've known Wooden Wand forever and even had this odd, but kind of cool CD by a short lived sort of "trip hop" project called Blood Group. I don't know what happened to it though, I was looking for it the other day, it seems to have disappeared.
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 12:17am AdamFromOldeKenzo:

I woudn't bother tracking it down if you are new to his work though, ha ha.
Mon. 5/8/17 12:17am Erik in Michigan:

Dude, I looked at his discogs recently and didn't even know what to do. Exciting for sure. It's been a while since I've been bored with music.
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 12:21am AdamFromOldeKenzo:

I think the album The Flood might be my favorite WW&VV album, it can also be found very cheap.
Mon. 5/8/17 12:24am Erik in Michigan:

Re: your question - the numero wayfaring strangers record last year sent me down more dusty trails than ever.

Going back further, the black crowes are actually what turned me onto a ton of great music. Their reputation can vary greatly, but their covers send me down this road.
  Mon. 5/8/17 12:34am bbb:

beautiful segue from Joanna Brouk to Dominique Lawalree
Mon. 5/8/17 12:36am Erik in Michigan:

Really pretty set
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 12:37am Johnny Sal:

Dig this Dominique Lawalree. Lovely
  Mon. 5/8/17 12:49am Mario:

I've been listening Dominique's album the whole weekend
  Mon. 5/8/17 12:52am willcrete:

That Bill MacKay sounded great.
  Mon. 5/8/17 12:52am tuner fish:

Love those white pines
Mon. 5/8/17 12:56am Erik in Michigan:

Thought I'd decided I didn't need this Tom Armstrong record, and not sure now.
  Mon. 5/8/17 12:57am zenkoan:

Have I never been mellow? Why yes, yes I have--right here, right now.
Mon. 5/8/17 1:08am Erik in Michigan:

Man, that's the best story.
Mon. 5/8/17 1:11am Jeff in Pioneer Valley:

Sounding good tonight as always.
  Mon. 5/8/17 1:11am Massive saucewad:

Tuning in from my couch! Love the tunes
Mon. 5/8/17 1:12am Erik in Michigan:

Jack straw!
  Mon. 5/8/17 1:13am manpilot:

Hey Jeff it's Nick from Sydney. It's 3pm on a Monday. Avant Ghetto is an enormous improvement to Australian Mondays
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 1:13am Aitch:

I smell hippies
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 1:14am Liam in Denmark:

Hey Jeff - good soundtrack to make breakfast to here in Denmark.
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 1:14am Jeff Conklin:

Whoa: You all heeded the call! Good morning to you all, friends. Glad to be with you...
  Mon. 5/8/17 1:15am zenkoan:

So, I was in attendance at this fabled Barton Hall show at Cornell. It's often ranked the best recording of a Dead show ever. Thing is, the sound in the hall itself sucked very seriously. (The place has abysmal acoustics and was used mainly for hockey games.) It was, and remains, an utter amazement to hear what was captured direct to tape.
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 1:20am Jeff Conklin:

@zenkoan: Whoa! Do you have any pictures? Was it your first?
  Mon. 5/8/17 1:25am zenkoan:

No photos, unfortunately. And yes, first Dead concert, but fortunately not last.
  Mon. 5/8/17 1:36am pp:

can't believe playing MSB! Joe Walsh on slide and Todd Rundgren on clavinette.
  Mon. 5/8/17 1:42am manpilot:

Just looked up this Minami guy - what a dude
"For this opus (The Tropics) Minami enlisted the considerable talents of guitarist Takashi Mizutani (of Les Rallizes Denudes fame) and bassist Haroumi Hosono (of Apryl Fool and Happy End)"
  Mon. 5/8/17 1:43am bbb:

Ha, yeah I just read that...also dig the song title and the Hey Jude ripoff ending
  Mon. 5/8/17 1:45am manpilot:

ahem "Hey Jude-inspired" ending
  Mon. 5/8/17 1:45am bbb:

haha yes, I stand corrected
  Mon. 5/8/17 1:47am pp:

i heard that too, maybe he was trying to take a sad song and make it better
  Mon. 5/8/17 1:48am bbb:

*drum roll*
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 5/8/17 1:54am Ken From Hyde Park:

A good time to replay this set is when you're setting off in a pickup and heading down a dusty gravel road on a bright summer's day.
  Mon. 5/8/17 1:54am pp:

seems to me that song has echoes of Walk Away
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 1:57am Jennifer_PNW:

Just returned from the Elkhorn / Prana Crafter show. Thanks for the heads up on that. Your name came up when we bought some merch :)
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 2:03am Jeff Conklin:

@Jennifer: Ah cool
  Mon. 5/8/17 2:09am pp:

another Minnesota country-rock band from years ago Daisy Dillman Band. Fave on 70's freeform
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 2:19am AdamFromOldeKenzo:

A Minnesota folkie who I kick myself for never seeing, even though it's my home state is Charlie Parr. Last time I was visiting my parents it turned out he was playing a coffee shop in a tiny town like 25 minutes from my folks' town the day after I was leaving.
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 2:22am AdamFromOldeKenzo:

This is what Woods sounds like now? I haven't seen them in like 10 years, this is cool though.
  Mon. 5/8/17 2:23am pp:

methinks Jeff has hid a Joe Walsh easter egg in these tracks.
  Mon. 5/8/17 2:23am aable:

i am lonely
  Mon. 5/8/17 2:24am aaron:

charlie parr is awesome. dude plays every chance he can get in minnesota/wisconsin
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 2:24am Jeff Conklin:

@aable: You're with us
  Mon. 5/8/17 2:25am aaron:

you should be able to catch him next time your in minnesota
Avatar Mon. 5/8/17 2:25am AdamFromOldeKenzo:

@aaron, yeah, and I only found out recently he's born in the small town I was born in, and grew up in the even smaller town my Grandma was from
  Mon. 5/8/17 2:35am Matt W:

Late to the show this morning but always happy to slip into the week during the gentle final set...Thanks for the sounds, Jeff!
  Mon. 5/8/17 2:41am saucerful:

@aable - Here's a good loneliness meditation from a book I like...it's perfect to do while listening to Avant Ghetto: Pay attention to your breathing, connect with the rise and fall of each breath, stay in the present moment. Next pay attention to your thoughts and feelings. After each thought, tell yourself: I am neither this nor that. This is not me. This thought is not reality. You may feel desperately all alone, but in reality you are not truly alone. The world is widely inhabited, and you are surrounded by other people. Your feelings do not dictate who you really are. They are simply emotions that rapidly change in importance at any given moment. In truth, you are much, much more than than the thoughts, feelings, and upsetting reactions that cross through your mind. Keep breathing and paying attention. Do this for 5-10 minutes.
  Thu. 5/11/17 12:32pm Dallas:

Been listening on the archive regularly for about a year now, and this is my favorite show yet - Keep it up Jeff
