"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Good morning, Cheri Pi. How's Ohio today?
Avatar 9:16am
Cheri Pi:

Ohio is rather soggy ATM, my commute to work was more like a hydroplane ride.
Mark R:

It's soggy in NJ too, Cheri.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am
Bronwyn Bishop:

soggy in manhattan as well
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:22am

Absolutely gorgeous in Mpls now, after having snow as recently as this past Monday.
Avatar 9:23am

It's scorchio on Scotland's west coast, as it has been all week, Dinae know if I like it or not.

So soggy.
Avatar 9:25am

Sounds moist!

Good to hear you here once more, JA.

[googles] - good guess, it turns out. Anagenic is about 31 years old at this point.
Mark R:

Jon Hassell's so wonderfully freaky...

Passaic River Blues:

@Mark R: Yesterday, I saw on Ambient Church's instagram a posting of a flyer for a 1989 Brian Eno sonic rainforest installation and performance by the Jon Hassell Group in the Winter Garden atrium of the WFC downtown. It looked amazing.

Squishy is as vile a word as moist.

Hey, John!
Avatar 10:11am

@JakeGould: Aye, it's right alongside.

Russ Meyer’s “Moist and Squishy Morning.”
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:17am

I have been completely fried on Prince for years now, so I am kinda surprised at how much I enjoyed hearing that track in this set. Definitely listened to that record a lot when it was new.

Avatar 10:23am

Passaic, oh nice! On a trip?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am
Passaic River Blues:

@Mike: Last week, he mentioned going back home to the "motherland" for weddings and to generally see fam, as far as I recall.

Also, I feel like an asshole for missing the last two or three Mary Lattimore shows at Monty Hall. I like everything single thing by her I've ever heard.

I think you're hitting just the right note for this gloomy Friday morning. (That's a compliment.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am
Passaic River Blues:

This set is a masterwork of linking the hidden affinities of ostensibly disparate tracks. Loving it.
joe from Warwick NY:

This set is a different Friday feel. Goes great with the rain. Loving it.
Avatar 10:48am
fm Mike:

Mark R, gloomy where you are too? It's overcast here in Georgia as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am

Great show so far John!
Mark R:

Gloomy in the general NYC vicinity--including Jersey City, where John is currently spinning...
Avatar 10:50am

Powerful set, John Allen!

Gloomy in the Midwest as well. Appreciating the darker tones.
Mark R:

Wait--is the Famous Ray's or the Famous Original Ray's?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am

I'm finding that this goes well with the grey day, too.

Hi John Allen, What a nice surprise this AM. jt

Great line to go out on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:19am

How was the record fair Michele? I didn't get to go on account of living so far away.

@Ken from HP: Thanks for the tip, my friend. I can often tune in on a weekday, but not always. My work means sometimes I'm away from computers -- or I have to watch a municipal meeting -- so less WFMU-time. Boo.
