Avatar 3:38pm northguineahills:

I saw Peter Kowald (on double-bass) and Toshio Kajiwara (on turntables) and both were sublime, you couldn't tell who was making what noise....
Avatar 3:54pm Fredericks:

northguinea, could it have been 6 days before he died?
Avatar 3:58pm northguineahills:

@Fredericks: It was an 'informal' show in the basement of Tonic. So, when Toshio emailed me the news two days later, I was dumbstruck.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Stanley:

Gateway to Joy, brings me joy.
May the fourth go with you Donna.
Avatar 4:03pm northguineahills:

@Fredericks: Yes he did. He did a show in Brooklyn the night he died. He finished his show, got his bass into a cab w/ a friend where he was staying. Got out of the cab, and had a heart attack. (that was the story relayed to me, I didn't see the Brooklyn show).

That's the way most people say they want to go. I missed my only opportunity to see him in the Tampa Bay area.

I want to go like Elliot Carter. He was 103 years old, still sharp as a tack (although he had a nurse) and working on new music. He took a break one day for a nap, and he never woke up.
Avatar 4:19pm Cecile:

that's perfect to me.
Avatar 4:21pm Fredericks:

I'd take either compared to some deaths I've seen.

Mindless self-censorship of one's own writing is a profound act of resistance.
