I have a friend, who's Japanese gf was detained at LAX. She had a student visa (grad school), but after they went through her phone, they found she had been working (at a NYC gallery), So, she had to buy a ticket back to Japan and told she couldn't return for 5 years. We already got an immigration lawyer on the case.

(My wife is going her second immigration interview process right now since we got married, and she has a lawyer).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am

Horrifying story, @northguineahills. All too typical, as well. (Hiya.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am

@NGH: I hope she'll be back soon. That restriction is absurd: students working to pay for tuition and bills is supposed to be part of the "American story". And now it's a crime?

@annie: that's a great suggestion re WWOZ. They're online, @fred! I've only been to NOLA once, so I'm not your go-to for suggestions.

Irene Trudell did a well-informed & beautiful tribute to Larry Coryell - maybe focussing more on early work. My take after that is he makes an important comparison/contrast to McLaughlin - also technically stunning, but perhaps straighter to the feeling, w/ broad inspirations across genres (reportedly seeing Hendrix specifically turned him around)...

If we wanted to be Yogis & take *decades* - then *maybe* we'd be able to work the control board of our own brains/minds. Not having taken that option - I enjoy moderate alkyhol to relax & be in the moment. & conversely too much caffeine to not fall into the abyss of the moment & to become active. I can try to answer that, @fred. Basically, only those shows taking place at WFMU (and D:O Radio will move to FMU for our marathon shows) will have live, on-air co-hosts. Remote shows unable to make the trek will have "virtual co-hosts" on the playlists, but not on air.
