I always imagine Irwin playing the drums on this.

i dont think i heard that mmw album. have been out of the loop with them, used to go to their shows back when they did Tonic

Will there be crumpets? I can't wait to find out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm

Thanks to rrg for this version of Caravan.

Any musicians have feel for what time signature Caravan was in? That one had a nice lilt to it.
Avatar 3:39pm

Great show \o/

Listener Robert:

Radiator still in E. Orange too, so it must be cold on Montgomery St.
Avatar 3:51pm

Heya Irwin, I met a guy in a bar last night that has your Key of Z books and raved about them. He was shocked that I knew all of the artists he was mentioning. I was shocked, too. Small world, especially out here in broken dam land.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm

Carm: Thanks for conveying. There's actually only one Key of Z book, never got around to volume 2. You wanna tackle it?
Avatar 3:55pm

Hmmm ... <thinking>
Listener Robert:

Say...do you ever ID the Rockland Co. xltr as "W220[letter][letter]"?

this is the best one, if it s the one I think it is
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm

Oh, this is an incredible episode.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm

yes, that's the one. the mentor of swagart is a well known comedian, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm

It's David Cross.

Ha, Joe is such a pimp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm

It isn't an "Everything" bagel if it doesn't contain bacon, and if it contains bacon, it ain't a bagel.

Joe needs to stop interrupting him by answering his rhetorical questions. And he needs to stop asking them. Still its funny.
Avatar 🎸 4:25pm

Yes, it's just bacon, really.
Avatar 🎸 4:26pm

I've wired that guitar riff into the pneumatic dampener of my office chair and am now enjoying the ride.

Tommy in Neversink:

Being from the south , I didn't have a bagel until I moved to NYC at age 23. I wasn't very impressed but the other NYC food offerings more than made up for that
Listener Robert:

It's W220EG. Some xltrs do identify by sign, when their primary station includes them in a list. I used to listen to W276AQ, Ft. Lee (I used to imagine their radiator as on the NJ-side tower of the GWB) when they were Jukebox Radio, and they were effectively the primary station, their legal primary being someplace in northern NJ with much less coverage than the xltr, and they did ID by their xltr call sign. But most just ID xltrs the same as you do, "...and in Rockland County on 91.9."

This apartment is quite rheumy.

I'm new to this station / app can someone explain the structure to me?

Is it a continual stream of spoken dialogue with music, is this a show, does it edit pre existing interviews?

i think this is just one 'song'. it's just really long
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm

Demian: It's a show. It's Joe.
Listener Robert:

Baboons are the answer?

wait so there's no such thing as an everything bagel then?

Faith & Existentialism Theatre. Is it a touch racist? If Joe wasn't happy to show everyone including himself as foolish...& writing both parts w/ some identification anyhow...hm...

Well, well. Plonsey is playing a local bar in town next month with Fred Frith.

RRN63: Legally, no, because they only recorded one composition. You can't copyright an arrangement of a copyrighted tune (altho the publisher of the copyrighted tune can claim it).

Oh - it's the lyrics they pay for - not the chords & such. Got it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm

The lyrics and melody were from "Very Good Year." The rhythm and instrumental arrangement were "White Rabbit." The credited composition is the former, not the latter.

Loving this Voyage!

Pretty much every Spoonful hit makes me smile -- hey, I'm only human -- but I especially love the "ooh la" roll-out on "Mystery".
Avatar 5:38pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- sounds like trying to go BrianWilson on it ? - not quite there & not the one they chose - tho' Parq is correct of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm

This is a great MF album.
Dennis Diken:

great show Irwin. the sound at the top of "Mystery" is a heavily-reverbed Marxophone. see John S play it on an Ed Sullivan Spoonul performance of the song on youtube. the outro vocals are a round of "the more I, more I, more I see, the more I see there is to see" against another round of "she's a mystery to me"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm

Wow, thanks for the technical details, Dennis. It's a fascinating sound and adds so much to the arrangement.

Been trying to track a MF~Merritt tune - I'm pretty sure - I heard in a store: very plaintive w/ oboe - thot I saw the 'Bus' CD in the stack so on there? Hope it's good as I think when I find it...
