Hey hey, KK and all!

Hey there James!

Surrealism is merely reportage. Gosh I hope that changes.
Avatar 7:14pm
Jesse K:

Hey geezerette, got some non-reportage based surrealism on the page today in the form of paintings by Neo Rauch: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 7:29pm
geezerette:

Thanks Jesse. Yeah, I admire his paintings. I just don't like surreality usurping actual reality. But then, they've always coexisted so, hey...
Avatar 7:33pm
geezerette:

Meanwhile, stunning the quantity and quality of good new music now!

Driving back from a funeral. Thanks for the awesome jams, Jesse!

ý. That is all. I just wanted to type ý. Fun!
Avatar 7:40pm
geezerette:

His painting style reminds me of Balthus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm

ý not indeed
Avatar 7:42pm
Jesse K:

Welcome back David, I was happy to be able to catch the last part of your show today!
Howdý Doug!

Thanks, Jesse, just shutting things down here now at Radio Blau. Driftmachine sounds great - from around here, I suppose.
Avatar 7:50pm
Jesse K:

Yeah I think so but not sure exactly. The label is from Mexico City but that's no indication

For what it's worth, you can whistle the verse to Sunday Will Never Be the Same by Spanky and Our Gang with your talkover music behind it.

For what all this is worth...
I saw a photo of Phillip Glass the other day, realized I might never have seen his face before....and it struck me that if you combined something of a friend of mine's face and something of Vincent Schiavelli's face (Fast Times at Ridgemont High, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest)...you'd get Phillip Glass.
I saw the pic because an FMU commenter mentioned the Lou Reed portrait in one of the new subway stations, and another of the Chuck Close works in there is Glass...and a standard photo of Glass was in a relevant article. There...whew.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
melinda:

For a second I was picturing a Lou Reed portrait in a Subway sandwich shop and it didn't make sense.
Avatar 8:40pm
Scraps:

Vincent Schiavelli was one of the most distinctive faces in Hollywood. Buckaroo Banzai is another movie where he's very distinctive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm
melinda:

Indeed. He had Marfan Syndrome and was a spokesperson for their national organization.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
melinda:

There were a bunch of distinctive faces in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
Avatar 8:46pm
Scraps:

Indeed, including early roles for Christopher Lloyd and Danny DeVito, well before they were in Taxi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm
listener james from westwood:

I just had a "Oh, THAT guy!!" moment for Schiavelli.

My favorite "That guy!" is Al Leong, 80s/90s bit player/stuntman, for example the guy who tortured Mel Gibson in "Lethal Weapon," and the terrorist/robber who stole a candy bar in "Die Hard." His characters mostly got killed by the protagonists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm
listener james from westwood:

Dug the huge chunk of Glass!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm
listener james from westwood:

And by weird coincidence, Akhnaten is believed to have had Marfan syndrome.

hello Jesse and others

bizarre and intriguing pix
Avatar 9:14pm
Jesse K:

Hey coelacanthø, they're by Neo Rauch: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm
coelacanth∅:

they remind me of pictures i drew when i was little, only infinitely better technique - and mine often had jet-engined zeppelins and futuristic cars in them; and jet-engined paper airplanes thast dropped bombs that grew as they emerged from the plane. everyone discouraged me except my 6th grade teacher, who took them all because she liked them.
Avatar 9:23pm
Jesse K:

She's probably flipped them on the secondary market by now :/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm
coelacanth∅:

ha well that'd be a good sign at least!
Avatar 9:33pm
