h'lo hey h'lo where's my horse?? hey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Uncle Michael:

I've got rum...who's got a bottle of Coke?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm Uncle Michael:

So this is after Dave got out of diapers?
  9:06pm Jeff g.:

I made some sodastream cola earlier. Will that do?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...what bottle you want - lg., sm. strange or regular?...
Avatar 9:07pm Mayuko:

That is a great sign, and good evening Sam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm Uncle Michael:

Are the flavorings good, Jeff? I've never tried them. I dribble a little lemon, lime juice, or cranberry concentrate sometimes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm Sam Segal:

@Mayuko, @Rev, @Jeff, @UM, @Scraps! So glad you've all exercised your free will to be here tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm Dave in Vermont:

Every horse they've ever seen. That's commitment. And I'm not sure I want to know what it is they are committed to .
  9:09pm johnk77:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm Dave in Vermont:

Well, Sam, if you lose your horse I guess you know who to call.
  9:10pm Jeff g.:

We're newcomers to the whole thing. Have only tried "cola" -- which makes a pretty credible cola! -- and "tonic" (as in the thing w quinine), of which I am the only fan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm Scraps:

"Fast Cash"! At least he's right out there, putting it in quotes. You can't say you weren't warned.
Avatar 9:11pm still b/p:

You know which horses are strange? Some of those miniature ones, with bellies scraping the ground and eyes dark and vacant. Small AND strange...he'll buy 'em.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I just saw a post on fb involving cruelty to animals - highly disturbing - & apart from invoking Hecate on their souls, I could do w/ some alkyhol & some Soul...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm Uncle Michael:

I've been using it since you could only buy online..and ship back canisters for exchange. In all these years, I've eyed the flavoring with suspicion. I like tonic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm Sam Segal:

@Dave, I've been ringing this Horse dealer's line for weeks, but no answer...strange...
Avatar 9:16pm coelacanth∅:

howdy Sam and rounders
'guess i'll call that number. i'm sure he'll remember my strange horse...though he may not be able to reanimate it.

more rum please.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm Dave in Vermont:

I want the font that gives you those kind of question marks.
@SAm, It's probably 'cause they're in a different time zone. I'd be interested to hear their outgoing VM message
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm Sam Segal:

Comin' right up, @coelacanth!
Avatar 9:17pm coelacanth∅:

those question marks are going to fall on their faces any second.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Nobody walks in L.A. They buy strange horses.
  9:20pm johnk77:

they did not look much alike
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Sam Segal:

Hence forth, @johnk77, you will be the Maury Povich paternity test of If You Lose Your Horse
Avatar 9:32pm still b/p:

Strother Martin -- horse-dealin' man:

Stonehill: "I'll give you a check."

Mattie: "I prefer cash.
Now, I'm sure you'll find a buyer for those ponies very soon."

Stonehill: "I have a tentative offer of $10 a head from the soap works at Little Rock."

Mattie: "Such a shame to render spirited horseflesh into soap."

Stonehill: "I'm confident the deal will fall through."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm melinda:

hi Sam and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm Sam Segal:

@stillbp: "To Render Spirited Horseflesh Into Soap" might have to be the name of my next episode. What a phrase! What is this from?
  9:40pm johnk77:

no but i worked w/some bands
on solid gold
Avatar 9:41pm still b/p:

True Grit, 1969 version. I assume the recent remake has the same scene, don't know if it has same dialogue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm Sam Segal:

Greetings, hello, and welcome, @Melinda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm Dave in Vermont:

Great snow shoveling, back yard dancing, tunes, Sam.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...this equestrian holocaust American Disneyland...streets unwashed by any rain...city w/out a center...no pedestrian logic - glue hooves & automobile loneliness. Dry tree bark & cactus lawn. Southern California - how I miss your surreal horizontal emptiness - your tremors & wide, dry skies. Your moral thievery & crass spirituality. Your worthless Summers & cold embraces. Take me from Winter. Let me return to the home of the homeless...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm Doug Schulkind:

Because who would want to buy an irregular horse?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm Uncle Michael:

The dialogue in the original True Grit is mostly verbatim from the book. It's very stilted. Stilted language and Glen Campbell's wooden acting were not a good pairing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Sam Segal:

This guy takes em how he sees em, @Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm Sam Segal:

Glad you're finding a way to cope with the snow, @Dave. Wouldn't mind a fresh dusting in MN.
Avatar 9:54pm Jesse K:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Now Nora Dean - neat-o track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Horses are partial to Dub.
Avatar 9:58pm coelacanth∅:

i've seen what the vet does to an irregular horse.
...i've never let anyone do that to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

AcidJazz - neither acid nor Jazz.
Avatar 10:00pm still b/p:

Glen's unsuited, but I get a kick out of the language and script style. He does seem suited when she tells him, "I also notice that people of your state gouge their horses with great brutal spurs and cultivate their hair like lettuce..." I have a number of favorite lines in it. Never saw it when it was at the movie show when I was young, only later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm melinda:

Assed jazz. I liked it whatever the label.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm Scraps deSelby:

Avatar 10:04pm coelacanth∅:

hahaha i have to like assed jazz, whatever it is!
Avatar 10:04pm coelacanth∅:

and Tom Jones of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Scraps deSelby:

Well, he wrote "Manic Monday" for the Bangles
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

He was murdered by BigPharma. (?) Close enuff.
  10:06pm holland oats:

I have prince's 'the work' (i think it's called) mega rarities comp if you want it - doug has my email
Avatar 10:06pm coelacanth∅:

(doing "kiss")
...of course it's possible he was murdered. that's business.
- it worked for michael jefferies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Scraps:

Oh yeah, that cover of Kiss is perfect
Avatar 10:08pm coelacanth∅:

(jeffery, not jefferies)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Noel Redding did say that - they were the Experience - they knew their pills pretty well - & it didn't make sense to him. I dunno. Accidents happen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Sam Segal:

@hollandoats: way interested...I'm always open to new Prince rarities.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Sam Segal:

Thanks for the recommendations, folks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm Sam Segal:

Peace and hello-how-are-ya, @Jessie!
Avatar 10:16pm still b/p:

Just a looked a minute at a few Little Red Corvette covers, including one by Phil Collins and East 17 in a TV performance, and that one would, um, be a "no!"

Duane of the Train has incredible rare, deep, hidden Prince items. If you already spoke of that, I missed it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Prince going @ such a random age as 57 pisses me off in that - anyone w/ sense had to be in awe of Prince the Talent - but I was just beginning to be informed of Prince the Artist. It was also weird that - he seemed to live so Intentionally - but he was ill & medication became a problem.
Avatar 10:21pm coelacanth∅:

RR yeh i wasn't there. it could've been an accident, certainly.
...but then there's jeffery lying about being out of town when he was back when it happened; and his casual reaction when he heard the news for what was supposedly the first time....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

(So we're told.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Jeffrey liked to say he was ex-MI5. A spook. Weirder than Peter Grant. Then again - Eric Burdon was excoriated for suggesting Jimi wanted to go - but he did write that night: ...' The story of love is hello & goodbye - the story of life is a wink of an eye. Until we meet again. '
Avatar 10:26pm coelacanth∅:

supposedly Prince was seen by his neighbor just the day before (or was it the same day?) bicycling into town, which he often did. he had flu-like symptoms but was he that sick - sick enough to die - if he's still biking to town?
i'm suspicious!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

It doesn't take a lot of drug to stop your breathing. You know?
Avatar 10:31pm coelacanth∅:

i know.
i also know that it doesn't take much for a person to consider himself and his own comfort and ego more important than another person's.
...but we'll probably never know.
  10:32pm johnk77:

weirder than peter grant?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm Scraps:

I don't think any of the murder theories hold up under Motive. And it's very easy to get sick and die. Remember Jim Henson? When it's someone famous, immediately it's suspicious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hard to believe - right? But Jeffrey is pretty mysterious for a major player.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm Uncle Michael:

This is a charming train.
Avatar 10:38pm coelacanth∅:

anyway (& i'd like to get off the subject) i think it far less likely that Prince was murdered than Jimi Hendrix.
maybe Prince's label stood to gain something, but with Jimi it was jeffery's bread and butter about to disappear when his contract was up; and the government very likely facilitated it...including setting Jimi up with the asshole he was in bed with at the time, or at least making a deal with her to allow Jimi to check out when she could've saved his life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...There are allegations Jeffrey had Hendrix kidnapped & rescued - just as a power play. & that he dosed him to undermine the Band of Gypsys - all African-Americans - when the Experience was more marketable. Not even that unlikely. OK - moving on...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Great trax.
Avatar 10:43pm coelacanth∅:

ha yeah!...to be continued, i'm sure!
  10:43pm holland oats:

What kills every junkie (incl fentanyl abusers) is going off for a time (which he did), which lowers tolerance, and then getting back on at the old dose. Save your conspiracy theories for chemtrails, like Prince did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@ho: A particularly bitter irony - when people are clean & then overdose - like Tim Buckley. Jimi - not a junkie. Prince - it would seem probably a victim of indiscriminate prescription these days.
  10:51pm holland oats:

It brought attention to the problem for sure. Prince was straight edge funk & the doctor feelgoods brought him down. Opioid overprescribing is totes rampant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

It's harsh - w/ Elvis & Jacko - they lived in their own worlds & couldn't be told no - but Prince seemed to live intentionally. But he was actually ill. Or that's what we know.
Avatar 10:56pm still b/p:

The surge apparently hasn't peaked yet, unbelievably. Crazy all over -- my state had even higher fatal OD numbers last year than the year before, when attention and conflict over addressing it all had already swung way the hell up. One of the losses was a friend. Anyone else?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Scraps:

Oh yeah: Richard Thompson covered "Kiss" also, on 1000 Years of Popular Music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Ike:

Greetings, humans!
Avatar 11:02pm coelacanth∅:

still b/p i've had many losses that were drug-related - twice the number when i include alcohol; but no straight-up overdoses. i know it's happened in my town though, within the last year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yes - I've known a few addicts - one fatality - & my ex-girlfriend, the most serious relationship in my life, was an addict & it helped end our relationship: she ended up in the same rehab Jerry Garcia had a heart attack & died in.
  11:06pm holland oats:

& I like Obama, but where was Obama?
Avatar 11:08pm still b/p:

I heard a state Republican on the radio today advising people....not to "choose" it, that it wasn't going to help, not the right thing to do. Thanks for that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

BigPharma is a major money power. & the answer is not prohibition - it is harm reduction. The powers that be are not interested in solving drug problems. It works for the druglords & cartels, the DEA, the prison-industrial system (racist), BigPharma, the religious Right...
Avatar 11:14pm coelacanth∅:

if angles 9 has it right then i'm getting a pacemaker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm Scraps:

And and and: I finally remembered the grail of Prince::

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm Sam Segal:

That band totally rips, if you haven't checked them out before, @coelacanth, I highly recommend their entire catalog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

All great trax Mr. DJ.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Very interesting Scraps.
Avatar 11:21pm coelacanth∅:

Sam i think Jeff G has played them but i haven't dug deeper. now it's time to. Thanks for kicking me with it again.
Avatar 11:25pm still b/p:

Nice line-up of first link choices in willard's offerings: Beatles - Airplane - Looney Tunes. And he may furnish the grail of Prince, but he describes the Looney Tunes collection as "my long-lusted-after holy grail."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm Ike:

The way you said "I'm losing my marbles!" was great.

I like marbles. Not that I have any upstairs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm Sam Segal:

Thanks, @Ike! The trouble with keeping your marbles upstairs is that they're bound to roll downhill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm Sam Segal:

Cheers, @Rev! Thanks for sticking around.
Avatar 11:32pm coelacanth∅:

i've never played marbles, so i've never lost them.
  11:40pm Dean:

Pretty sure that horse sign appeared north of Sunset Blvd., west of the Hollywood Bowl, in Beverly Hills.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm Sam Segal:

Good detective work, @Dean. This horse dealer's gotta have a line on our missing horses. Find the Beverly Hills Horse Dealer, find our horses.
  11:44pm Dean:

I wonder if this person bought those horses you used to see outside supermarkets. Put in a quarter, the horses trot around in a circle for a minute or two. I mean "every horse" is not entirely clear.
Avatar 11:48pm still b/p:

"She came selling Wiiiiiildfire...."
  11:53pm Dean:

No. Not gonna look up Bill O.
  11:54pm Dean:

But will look up Jack DeJonhtte and crew. Oh, yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm Sam Segal:

The clip makes him look like a real jerk, but I do understand if you're on a no Bill O diet, @Dean.
  11:55pm D_an:

  11:56pm D_an:

Er, ...ohnett...
Avatar 11:57pm coelacanth∅:

Most Excellent program Sam. Thanks!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm Scraps:

I heard Ravi Coltrane as Robbie Coltrane, and, man, my head was spinning....
  11:59pm Dean:

Gorgeous. Ravi's taking notes on Charles Lloyd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am Sam Segal:

Oh good call, @Dean. Can definitely hear that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am Sam Segal:

Stepping over my time a bit to play this tune. Thanks for hanging out, everyone!
