Yay FMU for playing so much music of the banned countries and sorta-nearby areas! Would love to hear this stuff en masse from 6-9 a.m. too, but oh well, guess it's gonna be an old rock dude playing old rock. But hey, archives always available! Yay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Bronwyn Bishop:

oh yes. love this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Scott Williams:

Ike, give it a chance, willya?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Ike:

Sorry, I just blacked out for a sec and when I came to, I'd made a old-school-style Angry Ike comment!!! That's gotta be a bad sign!!! Time to take a break! Ha.

Hello! I was literally listening to the Dead Milkmen's "Watching Scotty Die" and realized... Hey! Scott W is in now. I want life! Not death!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Uncle Michael:

Is the MnM's track a flipped-perspective "Watching the Detectives"?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm thedunkel:

I know you are telling me the truth scott… right?
  4:05pm JakeGould:

I can't get sad about signs anymore since those are often the remnants of a place that is already gone. Like a seashell.
  4:07pm Shh:

Lovely show! Thanks for The Mnms! And yea where's that quote from?? " I can't tell when you're telling me the truth."
- I'm not.
"How do I know anything you've told me is..."
- You don't.
Sounds so familiar...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Scott Williams:

@thedunkel, wellll, it's one kinda truth!
Avatar 4:08pm still b/p:

If you hold the Whisky sign to your ear, what do you hear?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Scott Williams:

Thanks Shh! That quote is from The Mothers, I think the Uncle Meat album
  4:09pm JakeGould:

Alternative Fax: A postcard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm thedunkel:

It's the alternative truth - like andy breckman is alternative comedy … :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Scott Williams:

Still kicking myself for not taking the old neighbor Flamingo Diner sign right out from under the movers' eyes. Monty Hall would surely have a different name now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Scott Williams:

fax is one thing, wtf is troof?
  4:12pm Shh:

Oh yeaaa! Thanks! I think "we're only in it for the money"
Avatar 4:12pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I'm no zappa nerd, but yeh; it's the two characters that live in a piano, right? Those recordings were also used in Civilization Phase 1 or whatever it was called. I thought it might have been from that... it's been ages since I've heard any of it.
  4:15pm JakeGould:

Who knows what fax and the troop is anyway?
  4:15pm Shh:

Didn't even know about this/ Cheers!

Tuning in a bit late, dunno if you mentioned it Scott but William Gibson was briefly in UJ3RK5. I don't think he played on the record though.

Avatar 4:35pm TDK60:

Hi Scott and all. Last week I got overexcited (sorry) and got my dates wrong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar 4:38pm Linda Lee:

'Goat's Head Soup' was such an odd denouement .. .the whole thing was a come-down
Avatar 4:39pm Linda Lee:

the original, i mean. the joyner/nance take is redemptive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Matt from Springfield:

Spoonful of Lovin! Hooray!
Avatar 4:43pm TDK60:

The Spoonful don't get enough credit these days for some good music.
Avatar 4:44pm Chris from DC:

Autoharp sounds great with ebow.
Avatar 4:45pm Linda Lee:

i'd love an autoharp to play with! sounds like fun!
  4:47pm B.S. Welt:

Check out Kilby Snow's autoharp playing. it's on youtube. Beautiful.
Avatar 4:50pm Linda Lee:

is the microcosm collection generally available? sounds fabulous!
  4:51pm Jack:

Brian Dewan is also an autoharpist. Magnetic Fields borrowed his for a song on 69 Love Songs.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Ken From Hyde Park:

My phone trace says it's "Make My Way."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Scott Williams:

@KenHP, makes sense to me - thanks!
Avatar 5:02pm geezerette:

that'd be my guess.
Avatar 5:02pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

What Chris said. They also sound fantastic with multiple electric toothbrushes. Strangely, never stays in tune with that kind of abuse (!)
Avatar 5:04pm Linda Lee:

always a soft spot for francophone rock! always.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Scott Williams:

thanks for the autoharp tips, everyone!
Avatar 5:08pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Soon as I got mine home, the first thing to go was the rig of chord keys; Rip that sucker off. Expose them strings, and do unsavory things thereupon. There is also a pupose-built pickup available which fits under the strings for marvelous, grotty amplification.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm coelacanth∅:

the chord-making things on my autoharp sound like crap unless i really lean into it -then it goes out of tune, and tuning that thing is a significant chunk out of my day...so yeah maybe not worth it. do what the Rev said.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Scott Williams:

Rev, didn't Violet let a little plastic toy bug walk all over his on the radio show that one time? Might not have been an autoharp...
Avatar 5:21pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Yessir. Plastic walking bugs + autoharp. An afternoon to remember.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Matt from Springfield:

What's the story with the Ollidamra? I was quite digging those tape-loop mosquitoes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Scott Williams:

@Matt FS: guy named Richard Sterling Streeter, walking around his neighborhood with his little sister when he was bored (1978-1982) then cut-cut-cut!
Avatar 5:27pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

also: this set is king-size yay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Scott, fascinating transformation, just from a recording.
King-size Yay, Rev!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Scott Williams:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm TheRealMattClarke:

Good transition! I dig it. Hey Scott :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Scott Williams:

Heyyy, Matt! Tanx much
  5:33pm MaxwelTart:

You may enjoy Billy Miller's electric auto-harp playing. Cold Sun is the band.
Avatar 5:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I have never personally met an autoharp that anyone had actually troubled to tune all those strings on - tho' June Carter & John Sebastian seem to indicate that it can be done...just as soon stick to six strings & actually learn where to put my fingas...indeed - the temptation to repurpose the contraption into a tone generator would probably be too great...
  5:38pm judy from croton:

Hawaiian unmistakable
  5:42pm jt:

Mark Dagley is also a really interesting abstract painter FYI... Though another girls member: George Condo is a bit more known for his paintings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Grace Slick and Richard S.S. - that goes out to you!
