Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm redkayak:

Howdy Gaylord. Please play something conducive to writing syllabi....
Avatar 8:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...were that all Disco has this much to offer...
Avatar 8:08pm Fox (Rā-chul):

Oh, I've never seen it, but Finola Hughes who plays Agent Anna Devane on General Hospital was in The Apple.
Avatar 8:09pm Fox (Rā-chul):

Hello everyone.

I'm still eating cookies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm Gaylord Fields:

@redkayak: I suppose disco isn't the best concentration music?
Avatar 8:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...ha*d...& offer it she does...
  8:09pm Dave Sustain:

Is this Pat?
Avatar 8:10pm Linda Lee:

brings me back to another time in The Apple for sure! when it was still nice & rough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm redkayak:

@Gaylord It's just fine :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm Gaylord Fields:

@Fox (Rā-chul): You NEED to see The Apple, even if that means I'm gonna have to kidnap you and screen it for you!
Avatar 8:12pm Linda Lee:

just checked the trailer. looks incredible!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm melinda:

hi Gaylord & all!
  8:13pm sugarwolf:

I love the Apple!! A took part in a group watch on Twitter once.
Avatar 8:14pm Linda Lee:

but the clones!! fantastic!!! weird!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm Gaylord Fields:

@melinda: Hi!
Avatar 8:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'There's UFOs over NewYork - & I ain't too surprised.' - Lennon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm Gaylord Fields:

@Linda Lee: It's sorta indescribable, and kinda critic-proof. Words like "good" or "bad" don't t really make sense in its context.
  8:16pm sugarwolf:

I don't like this show... I love it!!
Avatar 8:17pm Linda Lee:

for sure! even the little i saw lets me know it's something unique! i'd love to see it this evening somehow.
Avatar 8:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- pride myself on never having seen Sat.NiteFever - but this sounds like some RockyHorror spectacle...
Avatar 8:17pm хтinа:

woah, The Apple...forgot about that movie but there's no forgetting a song from The Apple.
  8:18pm JakeGould:

@sugarwolf: Delayed response due to nap… Yes, “WokeBaby” is the kid with scribbles on her sign. Also, there can never be enough remixes of a neo-Nazi getting punched in the face. The New Order one is good… Every one of them is good. My favorite one is the one where he gets punched in the face.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm Gaylord Fields:

@sugarwolf: Yes!
Avatar 8:19pm Linda Lee:

Rev, i'm sure Lennon was talking about the City, but my part of the state is known for sightings. i've experienced 3 or 4, one with someone who unequivocally did not believe in UFOs. a city guest had a close encounter too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm Gaylord Fields:

@ хтinа: Composed by the second-best songwriter named George Clinton!
Avatar 8:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...or Disco RepoMan? TimesSquare Xanadu? We'll see!...
Close encounter! You know - that's serious...
Avatar 8:21pm Linda Lee:

it was indeed.
Avatar 8:23pm Linda Lee:

then again there were the city guests who met their hosts one night with excited yammering about how they'd just heard the UFOs. turns out it was coyotes ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm Gaylord Fields:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: The Apple was Cannon Films (Golan & Globus) attempting to contrive a midnight cult film a la Rocky Horror. They were ultimately successful but not on their own timetable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm melinda:

That's hilarious, Linda.
Avatar 8:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I think many have seen lights they can't I.D.
...I was in a hot tub w/ a few others in SoCal (disqualified already, right?) - not in a Town even but a bit out; there are Bases out there - what have you...
A large very dark object w/ lights passed over - & over - like the big ship beginning of 'Star Wars' - very near @ low altitude...& *didn't make a damned sound*.
Avatar 8:25pm Linda Lee:

it was pretty funny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm melinda:

I saw Times Square for the first time a couple of years ago.
Avatar 8:26pm Linda Lee:

the really noticeable thing is always the silence!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm melinda:

This is reminding me that I had a UFO close encounter dream recently.
Avatar 8:26pm Linda Lee:

what happened melinda?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm melinda:

I hear some city people are disturbed by the silence.
Avatar 8:27pm Marc Francis:

Hello Gaylord! Howdy all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm Gaylord Fields:

@Marc Francis: How-do!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm melinda:

The space ship was large, more square rather than saucer-shaped, with lights and hovering low. It was scary but I think at some point I determined that it was actually a military craft.
Avatar 8:29pm Fox (Rā-chul):

Gaylord: I would totally let you kidnap me for that.
Avatar 8:31pm Linda Lee:

so what happened ...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm Gaylord Fields:

@Fox (Rā-chul): It will happen!
  8:31pm DL in LA:

"Earth People" was groovy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm redkayak:

Had some odd dreams too lately. I chalk it up to the inexpensive red wine we've been consuming :)
Avatar 8:32pm Linda Lee:

jinx-ish Gaylord! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm Gaylord Fields:

@melinda: For obvious reasons, the military would prefer we mistake their crafts for extraterrestrial ones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm redkayak:

FYI, Fat Tire ale seems to have something extra in it.....dream-wise that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm Gaylord Fields:

@Linda Lee: We did semi-jinx each other!
Avatar 8:34pm Linda Lee:

i think we're generally under real psychic duress here, collectively, & dreams are always a way to process stress!
Avatar 8:34pm Linda Lee:

yes!! can we do it again? :-D
Avatar 8:35pm geezerette:

Red, have you ever seen Winsor McCay's "The Rarebit Fiend"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm redkayak:

@geezerette - - - nup. Whats that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm Gaylord Fields:

@Linda Lee: I can always cheat and change your comment to echo mine.
Avatar 8:37pm Linda Lee:

or you could echo mine.
Avatar 8:38pm Linda Lee:

maybe it only really happens once a show. :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm Gaylord Fields:

or you can echo mine instead.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm unpopularfred:

That's the place to meet your friends taking Amtrak up from NYC.
It's not usually quite this loud though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm Gaylord Fields:

Avatar 8:38pm Linda Lee:

so close!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm Gaylord Fields:

@gal_x: As am I.
Avatar 8:43pm gal_x:

@ geezerette : I am watching "Dreams of the Rarebit Fiend" with the original audio muted, listening instead with the selections of Mr. Fields. Thank you.
Avatar 8:43pm geezerette:

Love this dreamy music.
Soundtrack time...ahhhh. :)
Avatar 8:44pm Linda Lee:

this is very sweet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm melinda:

The 'military craft' flew away. I definitely had stress-related dreams after the election, they were dystopian in nature. One involved driving through a drought-stricken area with an exotic animal petting zoo, but the animals were on their last legs.
Avatar 8:45pm geezerette:

The sound of peace and freedom.
Avatar 8:45pm Linda Lee:

melinda, that sounds truly horrible. ..
Avatar 8:47pm Linda Lee:

.. especially to someone who's never like zoos.
Avatar 8:47pm geezerette:

gal_x, perfect! My pleasure. :)
Avatar 8:48pm geezerette:

Red, thanks for sharing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm melinda:

I've had worse dreams, but yeah, it was sad.
Avatar 8:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I had Mordor-like nightmares during the GulfWar - burning petroleum purgatories. & Drumpf now, I know I have - thinking 'even in sleep?!?!' - & forgetting...
The United States of America album is a Classic - a must. An ironic time to begin to hit Rawk's Half Century of Psychedelic unfoldment...
Avatar 8:51pm Linda Lee:

the perfect time, i'd say
  8:51pm Mr C:

Great set G..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm Gaylord Fields:

Thanks, Mr C! Always good when you check in!

'ForeverChanges' - Top20 Albums.
Avatar 8:58pm Linda Lee:

i'd love to see your top 20 list Rev!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm Gaylord Fields:

Yes, I'm singing along to "You Set the Scene."
Avatar 8:59pm Linda Lee:

that vocal style brings my childhood back to me.
  8:59pm JakeGould:

@Gaylord: I know! All the alley cats are singing along… WITH YOU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm Gaylord Fields:

This is the time...
Avatar 9:03pm geezerette:

Gaylord, this show is so soothing. Gratitude, man.
  9:04pm Brach:

You've played some great stuff tn Gaylord
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04pm Gaylord Fields:

@geezerette: Why, thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm Gaylord Fields:

@Brach: Appreciate you saying that!
Avatar 9:05pm Linda Lee:

seconded! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Gaylord Fields:

Oh, Linda Lee! You spoil me rotten!
Avatar 9:06pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Greatest LSD Hymn: 'Attics of My Life', 'Step Inside This House' - or this LouReed right here?
Avatar 9:18pm Linda Lee:

frankly, i admire the first Velvets record, but i love Loaded.
Avatar 9:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...'All Things Must Pass'...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm melinda:

I like this Dory Previn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Cooh John:

Wow. It has been decades since I heard Dory Previn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Gaylord Fields:

@Linda Lee: I've said it before on this forum, but the third Velvets album is one of my favorites of all time (like top 5 or even top 3).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm melinda:

Which one is the 3rd?
Avatar 9:20pm Irwin:

Sun Ra recorded a Dory Previn tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Gaylord Fields:

@melinda: It's called The Velvet Underground.
Avatar 9:21pm Linda Lee:

'velvet underground' - No Nico or John Cale.
Avatar 9:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

A whole Genre devolves from it - Mazzy Star, Cowboy Junkies, some R.E.M., Coffee Sergeants - DarkFolkRawk...
Avatar 9:21pm Linda Lee:

oh god ... Lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm Gaylord Fields:

@Irwin: I did not know that. I will investigate further. Thanks!
Avatar 9:23pm Linda Lee:

honest, everyone's just got to have a velvets record in the top 10 or 20. it just makes no sense not to!
Avatar 9:24pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

bYRdS influenced the Velvets.
Avatar 9:26pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

January 22 - ☆
Avatar 9:26pm Irwin:

Little-known fact: The band most often cited by Lou Reed as a major influence on the Velvets? Alvin & the Chipmunks. Once you know that, it seems self-evident.
Avatar 9:26pm Linda Lee:

can't see how anyone with ears for music at the time wouldn't be influenced by folk & then take that into electric instrumentation ~ like the byrds & velvets did more or less simultaneously .. along with Dylan. ..
Avatar 9:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Johnny Ramone: 'We imagined ourselves as The Beatles gone wrong'...
Avatar 9:29pm Linda Lee:

but the Chipmunks came first! even though that had to be Lou pulling critics' chains .. as he so loved to do ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm maestroso:

Man, this Pentangle is gorgeous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm melinda:

great quote, rabbit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm Gaylord Fields:

@maestro: Oh, is it ever!
Avatar 9:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- have to imagine the British going - oh - so you want some FOLK, do you??...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Agreeing with The Pentangle positivity.
Avatar 9:31pm geezerette:

This music, so sweet and gentle. I could cry.
Avatar 9:31pm Linda Lee:

Pentangle were just great!! first Wiccan band that i know of as well ..
Avatar 9:32pm Linda Lee:

alas i knew of Climax before i knew of Pentangle. & i really loved this damn song!
Avatar 9:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...was watching some cheap 'Beatles Scandals' documentary today - & even so...the English - doors of buildings...centuries old...not the same...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm melinda:

Great set here
Avatar 9:35pm Irwin:

Yes, the 'Munks (as Lou & John called them) were foundational for the Velvets. The reason they were off the charts after a rousing start in the late '50s is that Simon developed a crippling smack habit. He was in and out of rehab, and the brothers struggled to carry on without him. Ron Dante often subbed for Simon under the pseud "Charlie Chipmunk." Ask Lyle about this.
Avatar 9:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Alvin couldn't remember where he'd buried his nuts the night before...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Gaylord Fields:

@Linda Lee: Precious & Few is sincerely a good song. Enjoy it without guilt.
Avatar 9:37pm Linda Lee:

it's always the quiet ones .. the studious types with difficulties adjusting to worldwide fame, too much too soon .. who turn to the comforting arms of Sister Morphine .. Rev that's funny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Gaylord Fields:

@melinda: Thanks!
Avatar 9:38pm geezerette:

Irwin, the remaining Chipmunks are in the Motion Picture Country Home now. It's sad.
  9:39pm JakeGould:

The coke habit aspect adds a new dimension to “Christmas Time (is Here Again).” Clearly about Simon’s dealer showing up with a bag of blow.
Avatar 9:39pm Irwin:

Dory Previn has some twisted lyrics. She was the Nicole Dollanganger of her day.
Avatar 9:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...sugar plum fairy...sugar plum fairy...
Avatar 9:40pm Linda Lee:

what, blow too? speedballs from santa? is 'hula hoop' really code??
Avatar 9:41pm geezerette:

Avatar 9:42pm Irwin:

Another little-known fact: the Chipmunks did NOT play their own instruments on their albums. Wrecking Crew, down the line.
Avatar 9:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...rawkin' an' a rollin' - spinnin' in a hoooolahoop!
This Rawkin'Roll has gotta stop -Junior's head is hard as Rawks!
- Now Junior - behave your self !!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm Gaylord Fields:

@Irwin: Also, their producer sped up their vocals slightly to make them sound younger.
Avatar 9:44pm Irwin:

Theodore did some sessions with Arthur Lee after Lee fired his "Forever Changes" band. Still unreleased. Sundazed has been trying to get them out of Liberty's vaults for decades.
Avatar 9:44pm geezerette:

I heard a rumor that Alvin was voiced by June Foray but I refuse to believe it.
Avatar 9:44pm Linda Lee:

of course they didn't play on their own records! it was impossible to get them organized for their set dates. what with the drugs, the prostitutes, the stints in rehab, the mania .. & studio time is expensive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm melinda:

I like the Chipmunks.
Avatar 9:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Not to mention the ongoing feud with Chip 'n' Dale.
Avatar 9:46pm geezerette:

OMG! I forgot about the Chipettes!
Avatar 9:46pm geezerette:

Avatar 9:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& his estranged son - a Chipmunk off the old block...
  9:47pm JakeGould:

@Irwin: So much of our American culture has come under attack in the past week and now the Chipmunks are forever ruined as well?
  9:47pm JakeGould:

@Gaylord: “Also, their producer sped up their vocals slightly to make them sound younger.” Stop with the lies!!!!
  9:47pm JakeGould:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm Gaylord Fields:

I heard they got Bob Hite hooked on acorns following this session:

Avatar 9:49pm Irwin:

In the WC movie, Hal Blaine had stories about Alvin's decadent habits, esp. when a drunken Dennis Wilson would unexpectedly show up in the studio. And yes, there were Manson rumors.
Avatar 9:50pm Linda Lee:

i hear an acorn habit is the worst. few survive with their mental facilities or digestive tracts intact. it's like riding on a speed binge with no way down but furniture polish!
Avatar 9:50pm geezerette:

Gaylord! haha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm Gaylord Fields:

It was Theodore who introduced Doris Day to Sly Stone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm Gaylord Fields:

@geezerette: Sometimes truth > fiction.
Avatar 9:53pm geezerette:

ha ha haaaaaa!

(snicker,furniture polish!)
  9:54pm JakeGould:

Acorns are a helluva drug.
Avatar 9:54pm Irwin:

There was originally a fourth brother in the group, Hiram. They abused him mercilessly, always referred to him as "Zeppo Chipmunk." He finally quit in disgust, tried going solo, failed, attempted suicide, wound up in a monastery.
Avatar 9:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...'Hibernation' - one of the great legendary unreleased albums...insane genius...
Avatar 9:55pm Linda Lee:

actually, the original title for the velvets song was 'i'm waiting for my tree' .. they knew a little bit about acorns. standing around the maple tree for months in the snow .. .. but Lou was concerned the song wouldn't be commercial.
Avatar 9:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...a Munk Monk, then...
Avatar 9:56pm geezerette:

Beautiful show Mr. Fields!

& all the tabloid scandles! SHOCKING!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm Gaylord Fields:

Thanks, geezerette, and everyone!
Avatar 9:57pm Marc Francis:

Thanks Gaylord!!!! What a perfect way to wrap up this lovely little weekend...
Avatar 9:57pm Linda Lee:

thanks for a fantastic show Mr Fields!!
Avatar 9:57pm Irwin:

Anything I've written above about the 'Munks can be verified in Hollywood Babylon III. There's a whole chapter on the entire sick family. Kim Fowley makes a cameo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Gaylord. I hope the rest of your week is less nutty than this.
Avatar 9:59pm geezerette:

  9:59pm JakeGould:

The facts in those “Hollywood Babylon” books can’t be disputed. Kenneth Anger did some amazing research!
