Thanks, sugarwolf! I had a very nice birthday!

These old Impressions songs make me happy and sad at the same time like no other group can.

Good morning joe!
Glad you got born!
Thanks for the set so far!

Avatar 9:47am Joe McG:

Trouble, thank you! Thank you, kevlicki, what a nice thing to say! @pantz: Ah, you remember! :)

I believe one of the guys in the band dated Molly Ringwald s sister.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am pantz:

Speaking of Trump, here's the Ass Ponys
  9:53am sugarwolf:

@herb.nyc: you wouldn't need a very big hammer. A crab mallet might work.
Avatar 9:55am KP:

Hello, Joe!
  9:56am kevlicki:

Thankfully as long as there's 90.1 91.1 or a wifi connection, I'll never be "all by myself"
Avatar 9:59am Joe McG:

Hey, KP! @kevlicki: Long may she wave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am ChrisB.:

Brian pulled this one out during his last tour. I think Al Jardine sang the lead.
  10:06am ike:

Completely missed this morning's Clay Pidge tryout. Did he play any Chicago? Eagles? REO Speedeater? Love him anyway, ha.
Avatar 10:07am Joe McG:

@Ike: He did get some Grand Funk in there.
Avatar 10:16am holland oats:

peter perrett 4eva
  10:17am ike:

That's almost perversely disappointing if that's as bad as it got. I actually don't mind Grand Funk at all. They even border on being... kinda good.
  10:19am Bill D:

Have to work today even though Federal Holiday
Avatar 10:21am Joe McG:

Sorry to hear it, Bill D! Hope this helps a bit. @Ike: I don't mind them, either! But like a lot of what Clay spins. Including REO Speedwagon!
Avatar 10:22am Joe McG:

Anybody see "Danny Says"? The DVD has a 40-minute audio track of Lou Reed raving about the Ramones in 1975.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am ChrisB.:

I love the Legs McNeil interview with Lou for Punk magazine back in the day. John Holstrom's illustrations put it over the top.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am pantz:

I need to check that out Joe.
Avatar 10:27am Joe McG:

It's pretty amazing. After listening to their demos, he declares them the future of rock music and that he and "Patti" just sound old-fashioned and "full of shit." It's real fly-on-the-wall stuff. He keeps lambasting Clive Davis for turning down the Ramones as a signing.
Avatar 10:28am Brian in UK:

Joe is that Danny Fields?
Avatar 10:28am Whosondephone:

Rock on!
  10:29am Sigurður:

So, let's see what will happen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am ChrisB.:

Speaking of flour, why is flour still sold in flimsy paper bags? Sad!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am Mike East:

I used to record me and my friends hanging out on cassette. None of us are famous now, though...

Claw!! Long time no see!
Avatar 10:47am dale:

you always think dusty did the definitive version of these songs until you hear someone else's take.
Avatar 10:48am Joe McG:

@dale: Yes, Baby's is pretty excellent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am ChrisB.:

Isn't Baby Washington appearing in Brooklyn in March as part of Todd-o-Phonic's All-Star Review?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am Ike:

@KFHP, I misread that for a moment as "I hope you're getting off today from work" and I thought, that's some kinda work! HEY-O.
Avatar 10:49am Claw!:

I took a break, but I couldn't stay away forever, Joe. (✿◠‿◠)
Avatar 10:50am Joe McG:

@ChrisB: If she is, I'm going to be there! @Claw: Nice to have you back! :)
  10:51am herb.nyc:

I just tuned in for a bit, outdoors on the Bowery. If this was 1978 and 10.51pm, I'd be cruising. (Happy belated birthday, Joe!)

Joe, is Danny Says available from Netflix?
Avatar 10:54am Joe McG:

@melinda: Yes, that's how I got it! :)
Avatar 10:54am dale:

i recently saw that sandie covered the smiths on her last album in the 80s.

A John Prine cover. You're on fire, Joe!
  11:00am Blix:

Thanks, Blix! A couple of other great WFMU DJs have birthdays this week, too: Therese and Emily C.! Wish them well!
  11:02am lloyd michigan:

I'll second the birthday wishes.
Avatar 11:02am dale:

i knew you were steeped in revelry and would get around to it when the aspirin wore off.
  11:03am Blix:

Swamp Dogg has maybe the best collection of LP covers photos ever.
  11:04am lloyd michigan:

The only other place I've ever heard SD is on M. Shelley's show.
  11:04am BennettCap:

One of the saddest songs written, with a catchy refrain to boot. I prefer Prine singing or, though.
  11:05am thedunkel:

Oh yeah- Happy Birthday!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am joe:

Ahhh I was so bummed I missed Saturdays show but now to find out it was your de facto bday party. Uggghhhh

What a cruel prank, if it's not true.
Avatar 11:15am Claw!:

This cover is killer!
Avatar 11:17am Joe McG:

@Alex: I had a very nice time! @lloyd: Thanks! Swamp Dogg is apparently one of my most played artists according to station metrics! @Blix: I agree! @dunkel: Thanks, man!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am Ken From Hyde Park:

Joe, will you be making another appearance on Stashu's show this evening? It was great to hear you last week.
  11:21am charles boday:

joe, i'm lovin" the music as always, and had a surreal moment listening to the Features, as I do with any NEW ZEALAND band! (sorry man!). The Features, aka Fetus Productions, were from Auckland, NZ, though occassionally based in Sydney, Australia. I stayed with them as a teenager for a hallucibatory few weeks there, and remember it all vividly (things you never want your kids to do...). They associated with medico/industrial band SPK there. Jed Town, their moving force, was also based for a bit in Brighton, England. how's that for nerd-dom?!
Avatar 11:22am Joe McG:

@ken: No, not this week! I was SO not ready to play last week and I really stunk. Next time I'll be more prepared! But it was a great time. @charles boday: I should've guessed New Zealand because of Flying Nun, charles. Dumb Monday morning me! How cool you hung out with those dudes!
Swag For Life Member 11:26am tadpoles:

Hey Joe & Charles...thought the Features might be a Kiwi band via Flying Nun but all wiki tossed at me was an '90's band from Tennessee! Thanks!
Avatar 11:29am Joe McG:

@tadpoles: I now see that there's an insert in the LP, which I didn't notice earlier. Plenty of info! :S

re: Super Duper Love comp
Man, Ace/Kent still deliver top-notch well-annotated comps in the midst of declining CD sales.
Avatar 11:38am Joe McG:

@Mike: "Super Duper Love" my comp of the year, I think. Not a bum cut! Also: You can sure cut a rug, sir! Nice seeing you on Saturday.
