Listener comments!

  12:01am Erik in Michigan:

Stoked to be listening live again (2/3 weeks this year!). Hello Jeff
  12:03am Erik in Michigan:

Glad to be with all the heady listeners out there.
  12:08am Dean:

One of my favorite, yet least played, records, is a 3LP set of Robert de Visee. The Coryell is an amazing tribute.
Avatar 12:08am Jeff Conklin:

Morning, Erik and to all lurkers
Avatar 12:08am Jennifer_PNW:

Good evening all
  12:09am Jeff in Canada:

Ah records from the hallowed halls of WFMU ! Tuning in my friend! Great tunes!
Avatar 12:14am Jeff Conklin:

@Jeff: Actually, these are all my personal records ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am fleep:

Greetings from a pleasantly damp L.A.
  12:16am Jeff in Canada:

Even better!
Avatar 12:18am Jennifer_PNW:

So much snow in Portland, now turned to black ice.
  12:18am Dean:

fleep: You're in LA? I must have missed that. Whereabouts generally?
  12:18am Erik in Michigan:

Good jam
  12:21am Dean:

This is the de Visee record c/o Harmonia Mundi: http://www.harmoniamundi.com/#!/albums/2111
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25am fleep:

Dean, Studio City. Whereabouts you?
  12:28am mitch:

love between - Hamel!!
  12:28am Dean:

I was in Whittier, far to the east of your location. I do drive through Studio City quite a bit, though, because I visit my mother in La Habra with some frequency. I'm now in Berkeley.

Studio City isn't too far from Van Nuys, where years ago I'd make pilgrimages to the original Moby Disc, one of the great record stores c.1975.
  12:31am Dean:

This Oregon brings to mind Trio Sonata, a fairly marvelous group whose works now appear on Boston Skyline. Do you know them, Jeff C.?
Avatar 12:32am Jennifer_PNW:

Ha, Oregon! Did you figure out which song it was?
Avatar 12:33am tuner fish:

love this oregon track!
  12:35am Dean:

[I should say, "...far to the southeast..."]
Avatar 12:36am future transport:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am fleep:

Diggin the Oregon truly.

Dean, the Moby Disc folks moved to Freakbeat, which is a brief walk down the street from here www.freakbeatrecords.com
Avatar 12:39am Jeff Conklin:

@Dean: Don't know Trio Sonata, don't really dig on any classical unless its played by a rippig guitarist either ;)

@Jennifer: Ha, still trying to figure it out...
  12:41am Dean:

Freakbeat looks ... amazing! So happy there has been a revival of places like MD.

Trio Sonata, @JC, might be an entry point. Nothing ripping about it. But it's pretty gorgeous stuff, not confined to any particular era.
  12:45am Erik in Michigan:

Have been listening to so much lake Mary lately (the visit session
  12:49am mitch:

Kayla say hello- likes the show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am Erik in MIchigan:

hmm...comments seem to get cut off with the app. Anyway...the lake mary/visit stuff is so killer...including this nyctaper set. So great....
  1:00am Dean:

Just in: Kevin Starr has died: http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-kevin-starr-obit-20170115-story.html
  1:01am Dean:

[This is important to California residents.]
Avatar 1:16am Jennifer_PNW:

Rad track, really love Lion Productions.
Avatar 1:26am Jeff Conklin:

O prefer the kind of trolling that hates on the Dead.
  1:33am Mark R:

It's cool to give a shout-out to the cats at the firehouse and the emergency techs.
  1:35am bbb:

Hi Jeff, I tuned in hoping to hear more prog/jazz! Guess you're back to jammy gtr mood ;-) It's all good...love it all.
  1:36am Mario:

Good morning, Europe' waking up!
  1:36am bbb:

@Dean - Despite my California roots and current residency, I actually didn't know much about Kevin Starr...thanks for sharing the article. RIP
Avatar 1:37am Jeff Conklin:

@bbb: As always, don't come to the program expecting anything ;)
  1:38am Mark R:

Cool that you played some Coryell, too. One of the first jazz-rock guys I got into, and I think he's kind of been forgotten about.
Avatar 1:39am Jeff Conklin:

@Mark: We'll never forget Coryell around here!
  1:40am Dean:

@bbb: He has never been the celebrity I suspect he wanted to be. But he was definitely an accomplished historian of California, and at one time our state librarian, an important post, imagine that. RIP, indeed. His work and energy will be missed.
Avatar 1:41am Hagbard Celine:

excellent jams
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am mauri:

Good morning. Esa lives near here. This is him recording underwater sounds: tinyurl.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51am sinister dexter:

hello from Grand Rapids Michigan , hey Jeff my wife and i love your show
  1:52am Mark R:

Greetings, Grand Rapids! Grew up and spent most of my life in Michigan!
  1:54am bbb:

@Dean - I've read a little on the history of libraries in CA but none of Starr's series on CA history. It's funny the article says he stopped in 1963, then picked up again with the 1990s - his wife said he “couldn’t wrap his mind around the '60s and '70s." haha
Avatar 1:57am Jeff Conklin:

@Sinister: Thanks to you and yours!
Avatar 1:59am Jennifer_PNW:

Thought this was Cluster!
  1:59am Dean:

I remember attending an event at which Starr spoke. I think he was still state librarian at the time. He was blitzed, completely zonkers drunk.
  2:06am Dean:

@fleep: A friend of mine who *knows* records, just sent me a photo of Freakbeat featuring Bob Say, whom we know from Moby Disc. He happened to visit yesterday. I recognize many records on the wall behind Say. What a store!
  2:11am mike:

Just dropped in. Happy to see a couple bands of seen live but forgot about. Oregon n MARK-ALMOND Bnd. Thanks for remembering. Oh n LARRY CORYELL too.
  2:16am Jim:

Listening from Sitka AK
Avatar 2:18am Jeff Conklin:

@Jim: Nice! I lived in Anchorage for a summer years ago, good buddy lives up there and teaches at UAA
  2:29am MattW:

Morning! Just checking in from Finland. I see I missed some Love Records earlier in the set. Appreciation all around, Jeff.
  2:33am bbb:

@Jim & Jeff, My aunt and uncle lived in Anchorage for a little while, when I was a kid...always wished I could have visited them there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50am Ike:

Greetings, humans.
Avatar 2:55am Jeff Conklin:

Thanks for listening everybody. Have a great week and hope to see you here next time!
  2:55am bbb:

Thanks Jeff! Goodnight all...
