Coincidentally, I posted a link to the Monty Python's lumberjack song on Mayuko's playlist that week. The barber there is more threatening

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Fran:

Hello all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks for the compliment, Bill.

When this system started arriving here on Wednesday, the temp dropped from 61 at 1:00 PM to 28 by 5:00 PM and down to 15 overnight. The ice will be arriving any time now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Stanley:

Fran. Howya doing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Fran:

All good Stanley! Just got your joke......
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Fran:

This is all good for me - recovering from a brief visit to Facebook where everyone is trying to out - cool each other with lists of the 10 best albums they had as a teenager. Nobody being very honest I think!
Avatar 3:47pm Bill Mac:

@UM Yikes, not going to be that extreme here but weather will be back to normal by tonite
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Stanley:

@Fran - so no Alvin Stardust then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Parq:

It was 60 degrees last night here in NYC. It's going to be 30 tonight. The temperature graph for today on Weather Underground looked like a schematic for my building's handicap ramp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Ike:

Hey hey hey hey hey.
Avatar 3:50pm Bill Mac:

I just came across Alvin Stardust. Only know him by reputation. @Fran You got 'um your top 10?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Guido from Cologne:

Hello Bill!
Avatar 3:52pm Bill Mac:

Heya Guido! What up, Ike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Ike:

The PATH train mysteriously believed it would be 72 Fahrenheit today, but gave a forecast for the weekend otherwise in line with other forecasts. Weird.
Avatar 3:53pm fred:

I doubt I had 10 good albums as a teenager
Avatar 3:54pm Bill Mac:

@Parq Ha! That bad?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Stanley:

Anyone admit to owning Top of the Pops albums on the Hallmark label?
Avatar 3:57pm Brian in UK:

No. My first single was The Young Ones by Cliff. Arranged by Norrie Paramour (what a name)
Avatar 3:57pm Bill Mac:

Hallmark, as in the greeting card people?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Stanley:

An offshoot of Pickwick records. LPs of cover versions of hits with dubious girlie covers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Guido from Cologne:

I wasn't lying about my 10 teenage albums. But 10 weren't enough
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Ike:

Mine would mostly be shoegaze stuff, so not a lot of variety. Well, maybe also Basehead and latter-day Siouxsie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Guido from Cologne:

Ooops ... missed that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Uncle Michael:

yeah....missed that Bill. Sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Guido from Cologne:

ther is no group called '14th street parking lot'?
Avatar 4:02pm Brian in UK:

I'm still a teenager behind these eyes. Well, you know...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Fran:

Not surprisingly, none at all Stanley - plenty of obscure jazz, metal and post punk etc. Bill - mine is easy:
* Foreigner 4FS and all 4 the charity shop
* Styx - Symphonic Babe
* Red Sovine plays Nick Cave
* REO Speedwagon - Keep On Loathing You
* Christopher Cross - the Metallica Sessions
* Little Jimmy Osmond - Baby James Osmond
* Big Jimmy Osmond - plays Howlin' Wolf
* Air Supply - Larks Tongue In Aspic Part II
Oh I give up - I'm telling fibs!
Avatar 4:04pm Brian in UK:

There are so few Sri Lankan comps.
Avatar 4:04pm Brian in UK:

Albums only became real in 66/67.
Avatar 4:05pm still b/p:

Snoopy didn't win in each song, so they were, like, toooooootally different!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Stanley:

Fran - you're so cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Guido from Cologne:

1. Wire: 154
2. Captain Beefheart: Trout Mask Replica
3. Pink Floyd: Piper At The Gates Of Dawn
4. Beatles: White Album
5. The Residents: Meet The Residents
6. Chrome: Red Exposure
7. Nico: The Marble Index
8. The Fall: Hex Enduction Hour
9. Tangerine Dream: Rubycon
10. Dead Kennedys: Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Fran:

Alvin Stardust - the best sideburns in 1970's pop. Small furry creatures lived in them I believe?
Avatar 4:08pm Bill Mac:

Guido is pretty cool too...
Avatar 4:08pm Brian in UK:

Fran when Big Jimmy played the Wolf. Who won?
Avatar 4:10pm Brian in UK:

What's the question?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Fran:

Cool just like a long haired lover from Liverpool Stanley? When about 7 or 8 I had a TOTP record - it had Crazy Horses on it which almost sounded like the original from memory - and of course a scantily clad model on the cover not really getting Mum's approval! Any Music for Pleasure records Stanley?
  4:12pm Marie:

great show, love that GIF.
Avatar 4:13pm Bill Mac:

Hi Marie, yep credit the missus for the visuals...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Fran:

Brian - Big Jimmy was Goin' Down Slow last I heard!
Avatar 4:14pm Brian in UK:

Do you remember the cheap Pye reissues on Marble Arch? I had one by The Kinks once upon a time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Fran:

Guido - a great list but if you are claiming teenage ownership you'll need to supply a photo of you with the records in school uniform... and not taken yesterday!
Avatar 4:15pm Brian in UK:

Bill, raising a glass of Jim Beam Rye to you and everyone out there. Peaceful times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Guido from Cologne:

Marble Arch records are still around on the flee markets.
Some good titles.
Avatar 4:17pm Brian in UK:

Guido, sometimes called loss leaders, perhaps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Fran:

I may have the Kinks 20 Golden Greats on that Marble Arch label I think?
Avatar 4:18pm Bill Mac:

@Fran Reminds when I got Roxy Music's Country Life album. It was the one with the two young ladies in their underthings. Didn't have the nerve to take it home so I brought to my best friends house. It immediately took it out of the bag and shoved in front of his mother while she was having coffee. She was understandably irritated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Guido from Cologne:

There are living witnesses for my tastes.
My schoolmates thought i was going nuts.
I was doing nursury-avantgarde cassette albums at the time i was 15.
resident were a primal inspiration for that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Fran:

Respect Guido!
Avatar 4:18pm Brian in UK:

Fran, Golden Hour series came out later?
Sir Raymond Douglas Davies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Guido from Cologne:

Golden Hour series was 70ies
Marbe Arch was 60ies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Stanley:

Fran - ah, Music for Pleasure.. perhaps the first re-issue label to emerge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Guido from Cologne:

Yould purchase Golden Hour albums in 1978 still.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Fran:

Thanks Guido and Brian - that will teach me to use memory rather than go and look at the sleeve!
Avatar 4:20pm Brian in UK:

You do not get an avatar like Guido's without being so knowledgeable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Fran:

Bill - I can see that revelation might raise a parental eyebrow!
Avatar 4:23pm Brian in UK:

Wish I had not sold Hoyt Axton's My Griffin Is Gone.
Avatar 4:23pm Bill Mac:

Eh, the record was pretty good too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Fran:

My Mum and Dad had some very dubious records on the Pickwick label - a classic Irish household with the 'Hour of Val Doonican' bringing a special type of fear and pain!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Stanley:

Careful, this could turn into teenage gatefold sleeves at dawn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Fran:

Bill - I have just laughed in a filthy Sid James 'Carry On' cackle style!
Avatar 4:26pm Brian in UK:

Hello there.
Avatar 4:27pm Bill Mac:

One of the Man albums had what amounted to a six page of Wales complete with points of interest
Avatar 4:27pm fred:

I think I embarrassed my mother in my teenage years when she took me to a record store and I asked for Rum, Sodomy & the Lash. In a conservative country town to boot
Avatar 4:27pm V Priceless:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Stanley:

Oooh, matron
Avatar 4:27pm Bill Mac:

I think that was exactly what my friend did while show his mum my purchase
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Rich in Washington:

Hoyt Axton was amazing, wasn't he? Really underrated.
  4:29pm Dean:

Be Good to Yourself at Least Once a Day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Fran:

Teenage Gatefold Sleeves at Dawn - that would be a great B Movie title? Starring Roger Dean and Steven 'Hipgnosis' Segal!
Avatar 4:31pm Bill Mac:

Thanks Dean! Hiya Rich, Hoyt was pretty phenomenal. A recent discovery for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Fran:

Rum, Sodomy and the Lash - still a part of the Tory Party Conference rituals I think. If you get the chance listen to the poet Ian McMillan reading about when his dad went to the record shop for him to buy Lick My Decals off Baby - very funny!
Avatar 4:33pm Bill Mac:

@Fran I'll need to check that one out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Guido from Cologne:

embarrassed for the Géricault cover design?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Fran:

Bill - its on a compilation of tracks put together by Andy Kershaw but probably on YouTube - he is with The Angel Brothers
Avatar 4:36pm fred:

@Guido: of course: these sunglasses...
Avatar 4:37pm still b/p:

My Country Life was the censored cover -- only flora, no fauna --but if it had been the original, it surely would've needed hiding if I'd brought it into my house.

Avatar 4:41pm Brian in UK:

Did you buy The Boxer album?
Avatar 4:42pm fred:

@Fran: Word is they're updating to Trump vodka and golden showers. The Lash stays though, they have to conserve something
Avatar 4:43pm Bill Mac:

@Brian I bought the US version, I think the cover had the band on front
Avatar 4:46pm Brian in UK:

Hither and thither, the zither.

Bill, I imagine that Below The Belt did not have the same cover over your way.
Avatar 4:48pm Bill Mac:

I know the cover.... at the moment I'm thinking of Spinal Tap fictional cover for "Smell the Glove"...
Avatar 4:49pm fred:

Nice PJ Harvey track I hadn't heard in years, even though I do have that record
Avatar 4:50pm Bill Mac:

@Fran I'll see if I can track it down
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Alex In Illinois:

@still b/p: That is the version of Country Life that I have too. Somehow, I found that it is actually a corner of the original photo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Stanley:

Bill, I think your show is the only on that plays SAHB.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Fran:

Alex Harvey and Kevin Coyne are possibly the most underrated voices I can think of!
Avatar 4:54pm Bill Mac:

I seem to remember you hassling me for playing them. And you're right Fran, Harvey's got a great set of pipes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Guido from Cologne:

faved Seeds Track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Parq:

Harvey's "Delilah" was a flavor-of-the-month at my old college radio station. I always liked his very un-bluesy cover of the old blues tune "Framed".
Avatar 4:57pm Bill Mac:

Awesome man, I pretty much just picked one
Avatar 4:57pm still b/p:

I was just looking now at some claimed background about Ferry arranging the Country Life photo -- shot with car headlights! -- and the models being selected in a fairly impromptu manner.
Avatar 4:58pm Bill Mac:

@Parq Fraaaaa-muh-duhhhhh!
Avatar 4:59pm Bill Mac:

@BP Never heard the car headlights angle. Cool
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Guido from Cologne:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Guido from Cologne:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Guido from Cologne:

great version !!!
displays the true qualities of the song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Uncle Michael:

One of the best bands I've ever seen was a one-off Claypool put together for one package tour.
Avatar 5:14pm Sem Chumbo:

Ah, shit, I forgot my white denim disco wear.
Avatar 5:15pm fred:

ABBA songs actually work well on accordion.
Avatar 5:37pm Sem Chumbo:

yep yep yep. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Avatar 5:37pm still b/p:

A friend scoffed at me for liking "Waterloo" when it was charting, but beyond that there was no appeal back in the day. It took decades for me to declare a truce after turning away from the ABBA spangle-schmaltzy, overcooked, over the top pop.

I almost named my first show They Pelted Us With Rocks and Garbage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Guido from Cologne:

Nobody can tell because it's so slowed down, but Sunn O))) is actually a ABBA tribute band
Avatar 5:39pm Bill Mac:

@Rich An excellent choice... my first one was named I've Fallen and I can't get up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Rich in Washington:

as I started listening back to Beefheart's back catalog as a youth, I found some of those albums that critics called 'lesser albums' not quite as lesser as I had anticipated.
  5:40pm Dean:

Just bought that Ballad of Mott comp and four Supersister records. The Mott tune a while back prompted me to do it.
Avatar 5:40pm Bill Mac:

@Sem Hey it's Harry!

and I have been back and forth on Trout Mask forever.
Avatar 5:43pm Bill Mac:

I love 'em all. I used to see Trout Mask in record stores back in the 70s. That catfish beckoned to me...
Avatar 5:43pm Bill Mac:

Great Dean you shouldn't be disappointed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Rich in Washington:

I remember being handed a copy of Bluejeans and Moonbeams along with a bunch of other cutout bin records by some roving scam artists who were supposed to be selling (stolen, probably) records out of their van for charity. I think I gave them the buck or so that I had in my pocket and they irritatedly handed four or five records over. I never even listened to it. I was like 9 years old or something.
