Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Avatar 3:48pm Jeff:

From Wikiwiki:

Occupation: Actor, author, sailor, model, Marine, OSS agent.

Hayden became a print model and later signed a contract with Paramount Pictures, who dubbed the 6′5″ (1.96 m)[2] actor "The Most Beautiful Man in the Movies" and "The Beautiful Blond Viking God."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

What I heard is - Melvins are LOUD - like seeing Sabbath...sounds like legendary Blue Cheer scenes: big amps in places barely hold a few 100...
Avatar 4:53pm MenfussMike:

I've seen the Melvins 2 dozen times or so. I've seen Blue Cheer 2 times. Blue Cheer were louder.
Avatar 4:55pm Chris from DC:

I remember Joe Preston's Thrones thing being astonishingly loud.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...'If it's too loud - you're too young!'...
Avatar 4:56pm MenfussMike:

It was sooooo loud at Blue Cheer. i was wearing a baseball cap and I literally could not keep it on my head.
Avatar 4:58pm geezerette:

Sterling Hayden wrote a fascinating autobiography. Not ghost written. The HUAC thing, naming names, haunted him the rest of his life.

Error Massaging segues into Bohman works perfect!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm mrdonutsu:

I've only seen the Melvins in clubs, which somewhat limits how loud things get. They are certainly thunderous, but nothing like Moorhead or Swans when I saw them at ATP Iceland in 2015.

But again, that's a completely different scale of soundsystem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm mrdonutsu:

Motörhead, FFS...
Avatar 5:11pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I'll second the Motörhead reference. Their set at Weedsport NY (1991-ish?) was my only experience, and it was jaw-breakingly, wonderfully effin' loud. As one would expect.
Avatar 5:13pm MenfussMike:

i will never forget seeing KISS in Jan 1984. Gene Simmons bass solo shook and vibrated my 13 year old chest cavity. I had not ever had that sensation before nor since.
Avatar 5:15pm TDK60:

Menfuss: check out some reggae live. I saw The Who once and they were loud. Then the Jefferson Airplane came out next and they were louder!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Carmichael:

The manage for Blue Cheer said they're so loud they turn the air into cottage cheese.
Avatar 5:17pm MenfussMike:

@tdk. I believe the who had the record at one point for being the loudest. Hard to believe a bunch of hippies could be louder
Avatar 5:18pm TDK60:

Menfuss: Well, it was during their "Volunteers" period, you see?
Avatar 5:20pm Brian Turner:

Doh the Squigtones rumor mill was wrong: A photo on the inside cover also includes two band members, "Murph", the keyboard player from The Blues Brothers, and "Ming the Merciless," purported to be Kiss drummer Peter Criss without his famous "cat" costume and make-up, though Criss denies it was him. McKean has confirmed that the drummer in the photograph is actually Don Poncher. [1]
  5:20pm andrewb:

try the destroyer tour 76/77 Nassau coloseum. no shortage of 13 year olds and dotting parents. my dad says he never got his hearing back. Still the r&r show by which all others will be judged.

Avatar 5:26pm Brian Turner:

Yes he was credited as Nigel Tufnel on the ASquigtones sleeve
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The Fillmores helped pioneer decent soundsystems. TheWh♂ helped pioneer Marshall stacks - the 1st 6' amplifiers - & many attest to the 'Oo's continued exceptional volume threshold into the 70s. Seems to me the size of the amps & soundsystems relative the size of the space will deffo be a factor in moving the air & perceived decibels. The Cheer had two Marshalls each - four stacks - or more - full bore in little clubs. But then - Metal has seen massive arenas as the license for extremes in equipment fetish. To 11, as it were. Received information says AC/DC are a blow to the sternum as even 100 yards...MBV would be in the saturation @ short distance category & are legendary...Amp & PA technology have advanced so - Bass delivery especially, I think (& a cultural bias shift towards it) - even small Rawk venues generally have more than enuff arsenal to pummel you into deafness - especially if there's more than one act & it goes on for hours...
Avatar 5:28pm MenfussMike:

great band that Humble Pie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Carmichael:

The Pie!!
Avatar 5:28pm Cecile:

Avatar 5:28pm TDK60:

Humble Pie had a live album out back in the day that was popular for wilder parties -- loud, obnoxious.
  5:29pm andrewb:

You just drove a spike through my heart BT. SNN will never get full credit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar 5:30pm MenfussMike:

Avatar 5:31pm Cecile:

  5:34pm andrewb:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 5:49pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Isn't it Brainticket?
Avatar 5:50pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I could be wrong but it was the first thing I thought...
Avatar 5:52pm MenfussMike:

@RRN Yes Jerry Shirley. The first Fastway album was exceptional. Featured a very young Dave King who went on to greater fame with Flogging Molly and had a fairly decent band in the early 90's called Katmandu
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm pinholga:

BT- I agree with RTD, it's BT!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Michael 98145:

Avatar 5:56pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:
