Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Uncle Michael:

No Parq. Please share Irwin's story.
Avatar 12:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Heard about Peter on a 'Something About the Beatles' podcast - there were 70s connections...We could still have that Musical - 'No Wire Hangers'...Zappa B-Day were the 21st - WPRB Princeton just playing spme...
Avatar 12:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...in fact - why not Peter & Zappa scoring that Musical - & it all wraps up somehow...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Alex In Illinois:

Has anyone ever played this album at maximm volume, like the directions say?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Alex In Illinois:

*Maximum volume"
  12:44pm Dean:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Parq:

Irwin followed the late John Narucki on the schedule at one point. John's theme was Willie. While Irwin digs Zappa, he is not a fan of Willie. Worse, John played it on a cheap cassette, and it sounded cheap. He'd hand it to Irwin each week with a big grin and say "You know the drill!". You'll find the story in more detail here:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Alex In Illinois:

Printed on the cover of the Album: "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars", is the phrase "To be played at maximum volume".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm doctorjazz:

Power Pop lives...the challenge sounds worthy of Houdini, can he do it...!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Parq:

Alex, let's get philosophical. Do they mean the loudest volume your speakers can take, or do they mean crank that volume dial all the way clockwise and damn the consequences?
  12:50pm Dean:

Here I thought you were going to have to pick just one Mendelssohn Song without Words!
Avatar 12:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Excellent challenge ! Power Pop Forever ! Post some eye-catching thing on fb explaining the criteria, & I'll Share it & ya never know - somebody might get turned on...Anybody here listen to the 'Ice Cream Man Power Pop & More' podcast? It's real good.
...Ziggy & the 1812 Overture have destroyed more good speakers...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Alex In Illinois:

@Parq: Hmm. Maybe that ambiguity was intentional. I can imagine them laughing at the thought of people arguing over that.
  12:59pm Dean:

Pilot. The obvious choice, obviously, is "Magic." But no. Play "First After Me."
Avatar 1:05pm northguineahills:

Krokofant, new to me and on Rune Grammofon, an awesome label!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Parq:

John Narucki was the first FMU dee jay I ever met in person. He was at a now-gone NJ club, known as the Dirt Club (As they say, you could look it up.) I said to him that he looked exactly like the way I pictured him based on his on-air voice. He smile broadly and told me that he didn't know whether to thank me or tell me to fuck off.
