Hi Liz and everyone -- Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Harry Chrismukkah, Happy Holidays, etc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Ken From Hyde Park:

What's the Kwanzaa greeting? Happy Kwanzaa? Merry Kwanzaa? A good Kwanzaa to you? I forget.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Afternoon, Liz Berg!

This could go on 20 mins. & I wouldn't tire of it. 30 mins., then I'd get tired.

Greetings everybody and happy holidays!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Kwanzaapedia informs me it's "Joyous Kwanzaa." Lovely!
  12:16pm Janie:

Hi from California! Enjoying your show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm mariano:

Good question, Ken -- just looked it up, and apparently one greeting is "Habari gani?" which is Swahili for "What's the news?" but then the answer depends on the day of the week and the particular virtue associated with it.
  12:17pm Listener Robert:

16 mins. Always leave 'em wanting a little more!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Liz Berg:

Hi Janie! Thanks to Cheyenne for the tip on this Grinchy track: it's a ton of xmas hits played all at once.

Starting my morning off with Brown Piss. Thank you Liz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm mariano:

What a spectacularly gross and perfect name for a noise outfit.
  12:33pm melinda:

Hello everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm crateslinger:

I like werewolves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm mariano:

Speaking of undead, hear the story about the tourist from Washington (state) here in NYC that got a steak knife stuck into the base of his skull by some crazy street dude? The guy pulled the knife out of his own head, walked to the police station, and was later found to be completely fine at the hospital. No way this guy's not a vampire, or maybe a Highlander type.
Avatar 12:48pm Jeff:

This Will Austin and Jason Jay Gillingham effort is a trippy headphone song. I think that must be what it's made for.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Liz Berg:

I heard about that Mariano! The guy was in NYC for his bachelor party. So nuts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm mariano:

Glad he was ok... what are the odds, huh?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm mariano:

this postcard is giving me a tan!
Avatar 1:25pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Thanks for your field work Liz! I think you should do this all the time. I loved your recordings from Spain too. Did you know there was a guy at AMNH whose job was to convert old field recording of frogs from tape to digital? I saw the room he was in and it was floor to ceiling of old audio reels.
  1:26pm kevlicki:

Hey Liz and all happy solstice.
Liz what did you think of holly jolly sabbath?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Liz Berg:

Jennique: frogs can make some truly amazing and otherworldly sounds!
Avatar 1:27pm βrian:

C'est génial, Liz !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Liz Berg:

Also, loved holly jolly sabbath! A great annual tradition!
Avatar 1:28pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Just remembered this Bugs Bunny song about Martinique. Not quite Guadeloupe but close!
Avatar 1:29pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

And yes, frogs can sound like just about anything, even kittens!
  1:31pm JakeGould:

Hey Liz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm mariano:

Anyone heard that recording of crickets that's been dramatically slowed down? Pretty sure I heard on FMU at some point in the last few years. It sounds like a symphony.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Michael 98145:

liking this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm brendanswfmuaccount:

@Mariano, sounds familiar but I might be remembering Kurt Gottschalk's premium from a few years back that was remixed cicada recordings.
Avatar 1:36pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Liz, I ordered this cd set of music from Upper Volta in the late 60s called Bobo Ye Ye. Comes with a photo book. So good!

  1:36pm JakeGould:

Apropos to potential terror attacks at holiday markets, ‪a guy in Union Square told me they banned feeding squirrels because one jumped on an old lady once and she died of a heart attack.
  1:36pm Listener Robert:

Mariano, regarding the knife in the skull, a lot of brain damage is subtle. You can knock out various parts of the brain, never notice it, and have it be difficult to even detect with testing. Of course being lucky helps a lot too!
  1:37pm kevlicki:

Liz, it's the best tradition to celebrate
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Liz Berg:

@Jake: found out one of my neighbors hand feeds squirrels in Tompkins Sq Park! She wears gloves, so I guess it's sanitary/safe? Hm
  1:41pm JakeGould:

Ha! A few weeks back when it just started to turn cold, the squirrels were flipping out for food. I'm drinking fucking tea and two fat puffy tailed assholes ganged up on me! One on my shoulder and one near my leg.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Liz Berg:

Ooh yeah, Jennique, that is a good collection of tunes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Witness the loud coqui frogs from Puerto Rico that have invaded Hawaii. www.hear.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Ike:

@Jake, wow, you sure are having a lot of trouble w/the homeless lately. (Although maybe a tree can count as a home.)
Avatar 1:45pm Shaun(une-une-une):

Left some nuts for skriking (annotatedfall.doomby.com...) squirrels neighboring my new apt a few weeks ago before snow & cold set in mke.
Avatar 1:48pm Whooda:

This politician had a grudge against squirrels, then a squirrel launched himself into the spokes of the same guy's bicycle and caused him serious hospitalization, fractured skull, knocked out teeth, etc.
  1:49pm JakeGould:

@Ike: I should get "Head Butted by a Homeless Guy" and "Harassed by Squirrels" merit badges.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm mariano:

@Robert: true, that's some scary stuff, head injuries in general. @brendan: found it, it's Jim Wilson's "God's Cricket Chorus" but I'm reading now there's some debate as to how much the recording has been manipulated. Why can't anything just work out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Barney Grubbs:

yay violent change!
  1:53pm JakeGould:

I met someone who worked in the Bellevue ER on weekends. She said pretty much all she saw were drunk a-hole injuries. BUT, she noticed a pattern: Dudes who had some kind of head injury (like falling and conking their heads) generally became calmer and nicer when they recovered. Like family and friends would notice a difference.

So I guess their is something positive to be said about conking dudes on the head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Michael 98145:

i could get behind that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm mariano:

Fuck that -- I want a titanium skull!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Liz Berg:

So crazy, Jake! I didn't know you were head-butted by a homeless guy, yikes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Bronwyn Bishop:

hi liz and lizners!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Michael 98145:

these colors don't run, they creep
  1:58pm JakeGould:

@Liz: Yeah, I was just walking down the street near me in Brooklyn, two pizzas to go in my hand and the guy whacked me. The pizza was saved.
Avatar 1:59pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

A long time ago I sat on the grass in Madison Square Park in NYC (when they allowed you to do that). It was in the fall and I was eating lunch. I felt a nudge from behind on my butt and turned around to see a squirrel running away with a nut in his mouth. I think he was trying to store a nut under me for the winter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Liz Berg:

A true professional saves the pizza.
Avatar 2:01pm Shaun(une-une-une):

I recently discovered a lyrically embarassing cassette dubbed from boombox of me playing music when I was 14,. Using the phrase colors don't run satirically & referencing "sister ray". I still enjoyed aspects of the music but... ugh.
  2:01pm JakeGould:

@Jennique: Word is you have a nice butt to store nuts beneath.
Avatar 2:01pm Shaun(une-une-une):

from +teen years ago
Avatar 2:02pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

@Jake: Apparently word is your head is too smooth and needs some dents in it.
Avatar 2:03pm Shaun(une-une-une):

Avatar 2:04pm Chris M.:

killer set, Liz

Add a "Successfully Dissed by Jennique" merit badge to my haul.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Ike:

You deserved that one, Jake! Ha!
  2:05pm JakeGould:

Beat Happening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm mariano:

Sorry to hear about that, Jake, happened to me once too, 25 years ago or so. Shaun, there was a show on FMU a while back where the DJ would play tapes he'd find in thrift shot bargain boxes, some of them reel-to-reel, really old. Anyone remember what that show was? There was a hilarious one of some kid whose voice was changing singing along to Rod Stewart's "Tonight I'm Yours" while he kept banging on the high E string of an out-of-tune guitar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Liz Berg:

@Mariano: it was the Audio Kitchen hosted by The Professor.
  2:10pm melinda:

Nice set
Avatar 2:11pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

@Jake That was not a diss! But now maybe re-reading it I guess it is. Sorry. You've been battered enough!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm mariano:

Thanks Liz -- and this set: WOW!
  2:15pm Shaun:

thanks for sharing Mariano, & Liz!

ran out of time on my public library account

appreciated tuning into this one set of yours, for the first time in awhile.
  2:17pm Shaun:

this sounds like spray paint
  2:19pm JakeGould:

@Jennique: De nada.
  2:28pm ScottC:

Fuck San Francisco! Grew up there. Totally fuct now. Rich white assholes using public spaces to make millions!
  2:28pm Listener Robert:

I wanted to reset the stream, but I'm listening to WMFU!
  2:29pm Listener Robert:

I mean, it's sounding the way it gets when there's trouble on the Flash stream,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Michael 98145:

( this must be the NSA fight song )
  2:38pm tullius:

This is great radio. With a playlist & comments to match. Kudos.

happy Solstice Eve, everyone ... gretachristina.typepad.com...
Avatar 2:40pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

I think this is the happiest Fall song I have heard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Either my car radio has problems or 90.1 is messed. It's like 5 seconds on and 5 seconds off.
  2:47pm Listener Robert:

I already phoned in the problem, Ken from Hyde.
  2:49pm Listener Robert:

Who minds the store when Ken's on vacation & Liz is on air? She answered the phone, though.
  2:50pm Listener Robert:

Let's imagine 3rd in command...hmmm...Prof. Dum-Dum?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm mariano:

They're probably running some sort of really evil sweatshop, kids on wooden treadmills, bowls of gruel...
  2:57pm Polyus:

That is the first time I have ever heard Solange, kinda dug it.
Avatar 2:57pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

So sad the show is almost over! Thanks for starting my day off right Liz! Taco Tuesday time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm mariano:

Sme here, Polyus! Thanks so much Liz, a perfect row of favorites, and nice chatting with everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm mariano:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Listener Robert and Liz. 90.1 going strong like bull again.
Avatar 2:59pm Whooda:

@Mariano I've seen the horrible pit of sweat, it's in a little shed where they have a treadmill hooked-up to a rusty transmitting machine. They run these slaves until they keel over dead. Those on-off delays in broadcasting are the times between slave replacements.
  3:00pm Listener Robert:

Mariano, the intro to "Audio Kitchen" contained a clue to "Lost". I'll explain in a minute.
  3:04pm Listener Robert:

"Audio Kitchen" opened with a sound collage including a passage with a child saying how the tape recorder worked, and when it was set to record, you didn't hear it playing back as the reels spun. "Lost" had a scene in which Walt was talking backward. Re-reversed, he said, "Push the button. No, button's bad." Later we were shown a 2-track tape recorder used by characters on the show. Walt must've recorded on the wrong track, "Button's bad" meaning it was set wrong.
