I won... Rocktober.. In October. Baby!! Good morning.
  11:03am phat:

this song is actually putting me in a really good mood
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Ken From Hyde Park:

A couple things I'd like to know about Todd-o-phonic Todd: Does his phone answering machine or his stationery letterhead say "Pow Pow Pow"? I'd like to think the answer is yes to both.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:09am myron feld:

I hate this Jonathan song. His use of "dere" and "dis" with that faux-whatever accent -- ugh. I do, however, endorse and practice his tipping tips.

Mr. Michael!

Ken: yes!

Ben E. King is a miracle. Do you think Paul Jones (of Manfreds) listened to him some?

Tipped the mailperson Thursday, and got a thank you note Friday. Garbage people got it yesterday.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:31am Uncle Michael:

We tip USPS, Fedex, UPS, trash & recycling.
  11:32am outofluck70:

Tip the mailman, tip the garbage man. Feeling guilty about not tipping the recycling guys. Why won't I tip them?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Parq:

The mailman left us a card with his name this year; not a particularly subtle hint. Living in an apartment house, we always tip the building staffers. It's only three guys, but I know people who live in these big buildings where the people to be tipped run well into two figures. For them, it's kind of like meeting a payroll.
  11:33am Tommy Caldwell:

Of course you share a little Holiday Cheer with your Mail Man. It's Christmas time!
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:34am Frank Above:

Michael! The NRBQ show in Brooklyn is tomorrow!

We get cards from various folks as well, the mail man, trash collectors, we tip them all.

marshall allan and danny thompson fr sun ra arkestra w nrbq tonight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Brian in UK:

Hello Michael, watched the Montclair interview. Totally agree about people talking at gigs, same over here, specially in London where they think they are so cool. So rude. Short attention spans. Me. me, me. Drives me mad. And the mobiles. It is maybe ninety minutes and there is nothing like live music as you well know. The memory can last for years. Their loss.
  11:39am ed:

I mean tomorrow, brooklyn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Brian in UK:

Michael, were The Wondermints backing Brian Wilson when you saw him. Got mixed feelings as it seems to have stymied their own career by supporting him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am doctorjazz:

Love to go to NRBQ tonight (or tomorrow), but my daughter is in the ensemble of Sister Act in Westchester (shameless plug-www.facebook.com... )
Would love to see them with Marshall Allen and Danny Thompson, oh well...(never seen them, on the bucket list as of today).
Talking at concerts and clubs drives me absolutely bonkers-I don't get why you bother trying to shout over performers, wouldn't it be easier to just shout over the sound system of a restaurant?
  11:40am Scott S.:

  11:41am mailman George:

People still give tips, usually based on service and if they have a regular mailman
  11:42am outofluck70:

Mr. Shelley: could you elaborate on what was so awful about the Grateful Dead? I do not have a dog in this fight, I last went 20+ years, they seemed like pleasant enough fellows, music didn't make me ill. Off night for them?
Avatar 11:42am Michael Shelley:

Thanks George - what % of people tip these days?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Brian in UK:

We do over here but I used to work for Royal Mail our postman is regular (if you know what I mean)
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:45am Listener Baby:

This song's title has new meaning in the 21st century. Baby.
  11:46am Listener Schned:

As a former Club Waiter, paid on salary, Christmas tips made a true difference. And being raised in a suburb of Brooklyn, the family always gifted the Mailman and Sanitation (and a small amount to the Church).
So I brought those customs with me to my NYC apartment life, including extra "pour-bois" for restaurant people who took care of us regularly.
Until, say 10 years ago: alongside a serious bout of under-employment, and the Mailman leaving that obnoxious (and unlawful) hint-hint card, and building management going with a p/t super, the tipping has fallen by the wayside.
  11:46am Mike:

Tips for my favorite fast food worker?
Avatar 11:46am Michael Shelley:

OOL- they were just super sloppy and dull, they seemed uninspired. WFMU's Jessie (who wrote a book about them) told me it was a bad drug period for them - 1984/5ish.
  11:47am runny runt:

runny runt likes WFMU
  11:48am Listener Schned:

Would you believe some jobs like that BUST their employees for getting those?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am doctorjazz:

As an old Dead Head, I can say you never knew what you would get when you heard them (could have been how they were doing on the evening's drugs). Some days, WOW! But I remember Jerry being a full measure behind the rest of the band for a chorus of Sugar Magnolia once at the Garden, and if you listen to any of the recorded concerts, errors/bad stretches are certainly not rare in the shows.
  11:58am Dean:

Can't be worse than Berkeley drivers. Logically and physically impossible. I tip bad drivers.
  12:03pm Zev:

Almost 40 years ago the very first song I heard on WFMU was the version of Route 66 from this Count Bishops LP. It's still my favorite version of that tune.
Avatar 12:08pm herb.nyc:

@Brian in UK - i just tuned in. can i ask what the "interview in Montclair" is about? maybe i wanna tell my montclair friend of it. thx. (as for talking at gigs, ugh!)
  12:08pm lloyd michigan:

You're kinda countryfied today, MS. Not that there's anything wrong with it.
  12:10pm Stevel:

Jody and Johnny were pretty alright.
Avatar 12:12pm Michael Shelley:

Avatar 12:14pm herb.nyc:

thanks for the vid link, Michael - i should dim the lights and watch it now (here at the mulberry street public library, nyc)
  12:16pm nachurall:

So I won? Where do I pick up my cd's?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Brian in UK:

@herb.nyc it it no.38 on click here below the playlist. Roughly. After Michael's Monty Hall download. Heck you got it now.
Avatar 12:18pm herb.nyc:

Michael said "flat 5", and that reminds me of WNYC's investigative journalism (love that phrase) into nj's big mall, XANADU. or is it AMERICAN DREAM? the company putting it together is "Triple Five". it's very monorail-"simpsons"-y. fyi. wnyc.org/mallmadness
  12:19pm Joe R.:

Chris Ligon's voice reminds me of Bob Dorough's. and is that Neko Case singing backup?
Avatar 12:19pm herb.nyc:

@B in UK - "no.38 with a bullet"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Brian in UK:

@Brian in UK: One and the same.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Brian in UK:

Thanks you kind sir.
  12:24pm Marc15:

Did people used to tip the milkman?
Avatar 12:25pm Marc Francis:

Howdy Gaylord!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Brian in UK:

To a slightly lesser extent Eddie Cochran was a formidable talent, people never got past the hits.
Avatar 12:28pm herb.nyc:

@B in UK - i had to google "bulleit". and learned what it is. i'm a very moderate drinker. i often say "lips that touch alcohol will never touch mine", a line from a WC Fields movie. but i often add "but in your case i'll make an exception" when im with a pretty.
Avatar 12:29pm Daddy-o Dilly:

A pot of chili is bubbling on the stove as the snow is blowing outside, listening to WFMU.

Seriously Herb. Are libraries safe in your manor?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm doctorjazz:

This Crenshaw is GREAT!
Avatar 12:35pm herb.nyc:

@B in UK- uh, we spell it "manner" here. (kinda related but not, this upstate woman used to put on hand lotion then turn to me, "herb, hold my hand. i just put on lotion and i wanna use my hands". so i'd say "sure sylvia. now how about putting on lip balm!".)
Avatar 12:36pm Joe B:

Hey Michael and everybody. show sounding great as usual.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Brian in UK:

Herb qualify that comment by safe, I mean safe from closure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Gaylord Fields:

@Brian in UK: Much obliged!

@Marc Francis: How-do!
Avatar 12:46pm herb.nyc:

@B in UK - are you asking if libraries are safe, as in budgeted properly? if so, yes they are. tho everytime a new fiscal year begins, we users are asked to write letters to nyc govt. such a song & dance. --- I SO LOVE THIS "what is a rock critic" song
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Listener Baby:

My new band. Cheeky Intentionality.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Uncle Michael:

How many key changes in this song?
  12:52pm AS from MP:

Boomerang = Half a boy half a man??
  12:53pm lloyd michigan:

You better run. You better hide.
  12:53pm Janeen:

Tipped the newspaper carrier. She double bagged the paper with each rainy day, always early, right on the doorstep, etc. I agree with the mail carriers; always a different one. Usually give them cookies, but can't bake enough to keep up with them! When in doubt and your budget is tight, you can always do an act of random kindness for just one family or person.
Avatar 12:54pm herb.nyc:

i mighta said this before, but in an interview with music mag The Big Takeover yeeeears ago, Colin Blunstone said he took a flight to usa for some shows. and if the shows floundered, he'd call it quits and sell insurance. i should ask editor Jack Rabid to confirm this. meanwhile, just delete this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Brian in UK:

Great show, Michael.
