Listener comments!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am Ken From Hyde Park:

Oh, cool! Pink Floyd!
Avatar 9:05am Sem Chumbo:

Ditto. Hey, Marty, KfHP.
Avatar 9:06am Polyus:

Never heard of this one, sounds pretty good. Cheapest copy I can see is $100 though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Not even John Lydon hates PinkFloyd.
Avatar 9:08am Chris from DC:

Wow, this.
Avatar 9:09am PKNY:

I admit I had a dislike of Pink Floyd until I heard the pre-Dark Side stuff. Classic rock radio did me a real disservice while I was growing up.
Avatar 9:12am this guy:

^^^Same here PKNY. its a bit of a shame
Avatar 9:15am Polyus:

I fell in love with Pink Floyd at a young age, thanks to an older cousin. That post-Dark Side stuff is a part of my DNA, even though I can't listen to most of it now.
Avatar 9:17am Chris from DC:

I definitely can't listen to Dark Side. Wish You Were Here still sounds pretty good to me once in a while.
Avatar 9:21am fred:

The Wall was the first LP I bought with "my own money". I hadn't heard it in over a decade until last week when it was played as background to physical therapy. A weird choice as none of the therapists was born when that record came out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am MD:

Good Morning Land-O-Freeform...XO!
Avatar 9:24am Rev. Turnip Druid:

MOTTY.
Avatar 9:25am Rev. Turnip Druid:

What they said. Thanks to radio saturation, Dark Side is the Osmonds to these ears.
Avatar 9:29am fred:

@RTD: You mean there's a recording of David Gilmour belting out Karawane?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am Bronwyn Bishop:

marty my man! everybody!
Avatar 9:30am Polyus:

After seeing Dark Side come up in that new PBS series Soundbreaking, I thought about going back to revisit it, but I don't even have a copy anymore. I did just grab that 69-72 disc though, tons of good stuff.
Avatar 9:32am Rev. Turnip Druid:

THAT, Fred, I'd give that a chance.
I'll still dig Pink Floyd material up to Dark Side, but that's my limit. Unpopular opinion maybe, but I can't swing with the gospel vocals in that. Such an arbitrary choice. Like putting salted mice in your coffee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am pantz:

Man! I did not do enough Thorazine for today's show.
  9:34am JakeGould:

Nice angry set!
Avatar 9:35am fred:

@RTD: Salted mice you say... After one month of hospital food, I'm feeling culinary adventurous
  9:36am RogerP:

Almost every Friday I tell myself that it will be a bad idea to have WFMU on while I work because Marty's show is FAR TOO DISTRACTING. And here I am, again, loving the transitions and not getting much done...
Avatar 9:45am Joshua Fried:

Love the russell / gordon
Avatar 9:47am PKNY:

The nails on the lady on the BDK cover, woah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am pantz:

@PKNY Nice back scratchers
  9:48am Don S:

OMG! Claude X! I used to work with that guy!!!
Avatar 9:50am PKNY:

If Wesley Willis was an MC, he'd be Claude-X.
Avatar 9:51am PKNY:

Woah, look at the label, is Claude-X Clay Aiken!?!?!
  9:51am ans:

mr quintron :))))
  9:53am Don S:

ha ha ha, he is neither Wesley Willis-like, nor is he Clay Aiken. i was working with him when he made this record and i used to tease him about that cassette-tape-sounding production.
Avatar 9:54am Marty McSorley:

its beautiful thang like a sink w/o dishes
Avatar 9:57am Cecile:

FREDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!
Avatar 9:57am Cecile:

and hola all!
Avatar 10:00am Joe McG:

Nice article about Lynn Tolliver: citinite.wordpress.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am Passaic River Blues:

Dope opening, Marty!
Avatar 10:00am Cecile:

I missed RuPaul!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Passaic River Blues:

Beyond all the death and the rise of that reality show nazi shitgibbon, one of the totally shitty but overlooked aspects of why 2016 is easily the worst year of the decade is the Bambaataa sex abuse allegations that broke in April.
Avatar 10:10am Cecile:

Yes, prb. It was one of the worst heartbreaks of a terrible year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Stevel:

Fuck Buttons is scary-good. Fitting for an angsty Friday morning.
  10:22am Brendan:

Just jumped into the stream. Marty let's party!
Avatar 10:23am Marcel M:

G'morning.
  10:24am blee:

Fuck Buttons capture the mood. Yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am JtotheK:

@PRB, Cecile -- re: Bam - agreed. Looking at various 'history of hip-hop' books on my shelves, he's mentioned in everything. (Not to mention a bunch of documentaries - some of which are new to streaming services and I've yet to watch.) And then the news from April - you're right Cecile, heartbreaking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am JP from KC:

Morning, everyone. I second stevel and blee on the Fuck Buttons.
Avatar 10:27am Marcel M:

I saw Fuck Buttons open for someone at Terminal 5 years ago and can't remember who for the life of me. Anyone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am Andrew Waterloo:

Another vote for Fuck Buttons
Avatar 10:28am northguineahills:

I saw Fuck Buttons 5 years ago, but it was somewhere in Brooklyn...
Avatar 10:28am Cecile:

J2K and PRB, I made big deal at an indy comics show of buying the comic book history of hip hop out of order so I could have the one with Bambatta first, because "he's the best!"
Avatar 10:29am Wild Neil:

PEACE all. I liked Pink Floyd for a long time, but consider them a gateway drug to stuff like King Crimson, Can, Hawkwind et al...really like Careful With That Axe, Eugene though....strongly dislike anything from The Final Cut and thereafter....
Avatar 10:29am PKNY:

I cheated and saw that Hawkwind would be making an appearance today. Doesn't make me any less happy!
Avatar 10:30am Marcel M:

For a few months after buying this album I read it as, "hall of the mountain girl" ;-)
Avatar 10:30am Polyus:

"hey Lemmy, can you sing this one line? I can't go that high"
Avatar 10:31am Wild Neil:

Well, speak of the devil! Currently reading 9110.2-R "Sexual Harrassment of Employees Regulation" in order to be a substitute teacher. Wish me luck.
Avatar 10:32am Wild Neil:

Is Gemmersheim "An Import" (the Pink Floyd record)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Passaic River Blues:

@Cecile: I HAVE THAT COMIC and ordered it more or less for the same reason ("Zulu Nation!"). Nothing stops ZN, Soulsonic Force, Baby Bam, etc., from being awesome even if one's enjoyment is now tangled up in a complicated web of shittiness. "Planet Rock" was playing in the post office a couple of weeks ago, and it was sublime.
Avatar 10:34am Sem Chumbo:

I believe, I believe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am JP from KC:

Holy shit, I love this Delta 72 track!
Avatar 10:41am MenfussMike:

thats my absolute fave Delta 72 track too.
Avatar 10:44am northguineahills:

Haven't listened to VSS in almost 20 years....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Passaic River Blues:

I would fly off a cliff in a hang-glider with Father Yod if this was blaring on my vintage bright yellow Discman.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am Passaic River Blues:

SO GOOD.
  10:46am sue:

Mountjoy Square
Avatar 10:47am Polyus:

Martin Atkins on drums, damn right.
  10:47am Fern:

Yes!! PiL! This record was huge for me back in the day.
  10:47am Mikeee:

This P.I.L. choice made my day!!!! Thank you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Not even PinkFloyd hates John Lydon.
Avatar 10:49am Marcel M:

Gotta love that album cover.
Avatar 10:52am Sem Chumbo:

@RevRAb: hahah,
Avatar 10:52am Cecile:

prb, what I do now is say to myself that "his goodness now rests solely in his art". I've had to do that a lot lately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Passaic River Blues:

@Cecile: that is exactly the right sentiment and expressed well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am JtotheK:

Deltron! Haven't listened to this in a long time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am JtotheK:

@Cecile, PRB -- same. Try to separate the music from the person. Not always easy.
  11:03am Blix:

After avoiding buying this Zombi record many times when you played it previously, at this, the worst time of the year for me to be spending on myself, you play this Zombi again and force me into buying it. Bastard.
Avatar 11:03am Polyus:

Bring Dire Straits to my environment? Nooooo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Barney Grubbs:

increasingly more relevant as 3030 draws closer
Avatar 11:06am cee:

#neildiamond4ever
  11:09am brycepunk:

You woke me up from an awesome nap and now I have to buy records. Thanks a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am JP from KC:

Well, that settles it. Executive Dance Party is the name of my new band.
Swag For Life Member 11:17am nightjeans:

I don't remember the music from Rollerball being this cool
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am Bronwyn Bishop:

love this record
Avatar 11:25am Polyus:

One of the best tracks from my favorite Curtis record.
Avatar 11:27am Rev. Turnip Druid:

WAH! Missed mah Hawkwind fix. Just invaded a team meeting in a huge conference room in full rabbit costume. Long story.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am coelacanth:

what a Great track from a Great man.
rest in peace Mr. Mayfield.
Long Live Curtis Mayfield.
Avatar 11:34am PKNY:

Nice how Ike keeps the "Shaft" hi-hats, but goes Moog instead of wah guitar, on this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Passaic River Blues:

MASH OUT POSSE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am rsj:

hope they've got a spit proof mic
Avatar 11:38am cee:

the mop fellas sound a little caffeinated
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am rsj:

reminds me of the "ante-up" track with burt and ernie, gotta check that out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Mister Dobalina:

THE most BEAUTIFULLEST thing in this world = BIG L (Miss the kid!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Mister Dobalina:

MadLib instrumentals. Is a DooM track on its way? Say it is so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Passaic River Blues:

I saw what I believe was Big L's last appearance (or one of the last) at Wetlands in January 1999. He was nonchalantly beasting it and then it seemed like the next day he was killed behind the dumbest shit.
Avatar 11:54am Sem Chumbo:

So many hits, Marty, so many! Thanks, and if I heal up enough, see you again next time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Passaic River Blues:

Marty, you slayed. Thank you.
  12:01pm DJ_Guy:

Wasn't it Bow Wow in rollerball?
Avatar 12:01pm Cheri Pi:

Heya Martay'uns
  12:40pm lb3:

Great as always, Marty! If you haven't already heard it check out Sensations' Fix "Fragments of Light." Really good spacey Kraut jams https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-9cAsMvnVY
