A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

i didn't realize until a couple of days ago that the "remember, live, and trust" is based on a quote from einstein.
Avatar 9:27am Wild Neil:

PEACE all. Applied for a substitute teaching job today, it pays $80 a day until I can find a mechanical engineering position near Buffalo. Had a really great interview yesterday with the "good cop" until the "bad cop" asked me about my short term jobs in the area. It's like the freakin' scarlett letter with that sometimes....
Avatar 9:28am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Einstein would have been horrified by Nachum's politics: archive.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am annie:

... and the awful thing is that the prospective employer has a delusion that jobs are easy to come by an hold onto. it's a tough labor market out there.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am Scraps:

I don't know Nachum, and i guess people like him. otherwise, i couldn't know just by his show. I probably should keep my opinion to those two sentences.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am melinda:

I'm an online listener so normally don't hear anything but the last few seconds of JM in the AM, but streamed the last 15 min of the show so I could hear some of the farewell, and it was touching.
Avatar 9:32am βrian:

@Sem: Missed that. What was it, again?
Avatar 9:32am Wild Neil:

@Annie-at my next job will save money to buy a powerful workstation computer for CAD then buy SolidWorks. Maybe,
Avatar 9:32am Sem Chumbo:

..and cooking lessons, too!
  9:33am sugarwolf:

I become a crone next week, maybe I'll get witch powers!!!!
  9:33am Sam:

Aaah, Nachum should've just stayed, then we could all be happy.
Avatar 9:34am Sem Chumbo:

@ βrian: actions without repercussions.
It's like a dream.
Avatar 9:34am the Canterbury wood-elf:

i used to find myself listening to JM before the separate webstream was established. As well as the horribly cheesy music it was hardline pro-occupation, pro-settlement propaganda. He even did a live broadcast from the settlements in Hebron once. Seriously! I'm not trying to stir up any ill feelings, but i'm personally glad that WFMU's entered the post-Nachum era. I'll shut up now. Peace, everyone.
  9:34am Sam:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am annie:

those connectons bothered me, too. chacun a son gouche(?)
Avatar 9:37am Sem Chumbo:

@Sam: Vraiment vrai.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am melinda:

So what's the official age for cronehood now? I gotta admit, I find no solace and little meaning in the maiden/mother/crone model for life stages.
Avatar 9:38am βrian:

@annie: "à son goût" (I think)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am Rich in Washington:

I once fell asleep listening to Hassell's Fourth World music and had a horrific dream of an invasion of the body snatchers type invasion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am annie:

aahh!! yes, you're right brian
Avatar 9:40am Wild Neil:

Well, I gotta go meet with a veteran's rep at the Department of Labor now to concoct job search strategies that are not redundant with what I already know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am annie:

melinda, in my understanding cronehood begins at the thirteenth moon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Scraps:

Wood-elf, i very much agree. Just to know you're not alone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Bronwyn Bishop:

I'm technically a maiden but apparently some people consider there to be a "warrior" stage between maiden and mother, which I like a lot better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am annie:

not age-specific, in todays "modern world" though, with lady part issues, it's relative
Avatar 9:42am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Cheers W.Neil. Luck be witcha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am annie:

i feel more warrior now than i did then. it's easier to speak your mind when your face is somewhat wizened and you hair is white. i commands an subtl amount of respect, something no to be abused, though
  9:43am Sam:

Oui, pour les chats, they love the delicate sound of French. I speak french to my cats all the time, I even named one of them Lumineux.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am annie:

(silly keyboard, deciding what letters to leave out)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Bronwyn Bishop:

@Annie: Yeah, I'm going through a bit of a quarter-life crisis because I expected to have it all figured out and be totally confident and know what I was doing as soon as I graduated college and...no. Perhaps I'll finally feel that way when I get to the crone stage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am annie:

bronwyn, the time you finally figure it out will be the time you're ready to step it up to the next etheric level. enjoy the ride and inhale all the learning you can.. you are taking it all with you...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am annie:

i was just waking up when i was 25, it felt glorious
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Bronwyn Bishop:

i try to remember that! i've got this dumb little voice telling me "this is your life make sure you don't waste it blah blah blah" and it causes constant second-guessing. my new years resolution is to figure out how to make it shut up. or maybe it'll just go away with time.
Avatar 9:48am bobdoesthings:

good morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Scraps:

Rich, thirty years ago I put on Hassell and Eno album when me and two friends were on acid. One of them immediately stopped it, with a horrifying look in her face. Ever since, she refers the album as "giant bug music".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am annie:

yep, there are tims whn taking ourselves seriously is just silly.
Avatar 9:51am βrian:

@Scraps: Gregor Samsa's favorite piece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am melinda:

@Bronwyn: nobody has it all figured out at 25.
Avatar 9:52am Sem Chumbo:

  9:52am JakeGould:

@Bronwyn: FWIW, I'm older than you and my resume looks great.

But I assure you the only thing that has changed is the way I hide or express my disgust when dealing with work/life bullshit. And maybe now I can spot bad situation way ahead of time instead of rationalizing.

So all I am saying is learning how to roll with it (whatever that "it" is) is the best way to deal with life/work crap.
Avatar 9:52am βrian:

@melinda: But how old before you realize that??
Avatar 9:53am the Canterbury wood-elf:

That Hassell/Eno is in my top ten favourite albums of all time. A shame they didn't do more. Apparently JH thought "My Life In The Bush of Ghosts" (which came out around the same time?) was Eno sellling out to commercialism!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am crateslinger:

@ Bronwyn. Two pieces of advice if you want to find peace. 1 - never run for the train. 2 - never talk to electronics. Perhaps my advice is slanted toward 80's guys from Brooklyn, but it works for me.
Avatar 9:58am Sem Chumbo:

MLitBoG commercial? That was a bit of a stretch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Bronwyn Bishop:

I love it Crateslinger, thanks :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am melinda:

@Brian: maybe by late 30s? haha
Avatar 10:00am βrian:

Actually, I just recently began to talk to Siri, but only in French — which tickles me to no end.
Avatar 10:01am FMthatguy:

I love this song. It's so strange.
  10:03am JakeGould:

@Bronywn: Also you might reach a point where you realize someone grabbing a bucket of gold leaf ($1.6 million worth) off of the back of a truck in Manhattan is a very cool move.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am Priscilla:

@JakeGould: Saw the video of that guy—OMG!
Avatar 10:04am FMthatguy:

I have already reached that point lol
  10:05am JakeGould:

I love that guy who grabbed the bucket of gold leaf. More power to him!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am annie:

jake!!! i applauded his move... wow, but 89 pounds? one strong dude.
Avatar 10:11am northguineahills:

@Wild Neil: Spending time to travel when I was in my mid 30s and then only finding 6 month contracts w/ 6 month interviewing processes did it for me. Looks like I'll finally have something starting in January after losing everything w/ almost 3 years w/o a jobby job. I got a little to big for my britches, that, and the economy of my industry fully changed when I had my last long-term job, 10-6 years ago.

Oh, y buena suerte, Wild Neil!
