Artist Track Album Comments New
Bob Brainen and I were talking about the WFMU fundraising marathon prior to my show this evening, and he echoed the sentiments of many other staffers -- that the first regular show after the 'thon is always one of the most enjoyable of the year. Bob's been on the air at WFMU for 20+ years, so he's clearly not a guy whose thoughts I'm going to take lightly (to say nothing of the fact that I go through physical withdrawl symptoms any week that I am unfortunate and misguided enough to miss his show.) As expected, he was spot on the money correct. With the singular exceptions of my having poison ivy all over my back, and George W. Bush somehow circumventing hundreds of combined years of international law by invading a country that has made no act of aggression against us, I HAD A PRETTY GREAT TIME, GOD DAMNIT. (I'm just waiting around for the newswire to alert me to the fact that Dubya has gotten us out of all treaties that the U.S. has ever been a part of. I can't wait until the Louisiana Purchase is nullified and we declare war on everything west of Texas.) One of the more oft-heard comments from the local anti-war camp goes something like "this president and this war make me embarrassed to be American." A sweeping understatement, I'd say -- just getting out of bed these days makes me embarrassed to be from Earth, and never mind about our little individual tribes and borders. I think I need a good long bike ride to work this crap outta my system, so let's get on with the playlist and see if I can't get myself into a less cranky mental condition...

For anyone who was listening in anticipation of hearing the Drones play live in the studio, as they were scheduled to, I must apologize for things not working out. Various complexities that make for dull reading are the culprit, so let's just say that I promise to get 'em down here next time they're in the States. In the meantime, I hope I'll see all you fans of the H-E-A-V-Y Australian rock at their show tonight at the Mercury Lounge.
