Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am Ike:

It's been windy and grey here in NYC too, plus cold, matching our moods. What's on everyone's bucket list? I might see if I can get over to see the Alps in the next six months. Never been. Not sure if I can make that work, but I'm motivated now, seeing as we are quickly sliding towards that next Archduke Ferdinand moment, but now with nukes.
  9:38am BrianFromMA:

#1 on my bucket list is retiring and getting Social Security before Paul Ryan shuts it down. Planning on Feb. 2017. Hopefully WWIII will hold off for a few more years ;)
Avatar 9:38am Brian in UK:

Where did bucket list originate?
Avatar 9:38am Rev. Turnip Druid:

As for bucket list, Mrs. Druid and I are going to the Giger Bar in Switzerland to renew vows later. Biomorphs and black skeletal walls everywhere. Romantique, no?
Avatar 9:39am Brian in UK:

Another Vague World? If only.
Avatar 9:42am Joe McG:

@Rev: Sounds amazing! Alps, too, Ike.

Had WFMU to byu the box for $600 or what was the price?
Or were there promo-copies?
Avatar 9:46am Joe McG:

@fredr: Yep! @officina: seems like a Moodies/Floyd/Denny kind of morning to me...but I'll move out of it. @Guido: This is just from the 2-CD promo version.
Avatar 9:47am Joe McG:

@steve: Dream trip.
Avatar 9:48am Brian in UK:

Remember John Peel playing Careful with that Axe, Eugene on Top Gear as a studio session. He said it was also called the Murderotic Woman.

You bet, Rarouse! @drjazz: Not a plan or threat, but I'll think on it. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am Passaic River Blues:

Need to hit the reset button on this god-awful year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am Bronwyn Bishop:

It was the weirdest year ever to graduate college and enter the Real World. I wanted to celebrate the rest of my life and now it's like...what is the rest of my life? 24/7 misery and not knowing if I'll make to 30? I know this sounds really selfish but it sucks that I didn't get to live any sort of an independent life before the world fell apart.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am Greg from ZONE 5:

Can't let it get you down, Bronwyn.
  10:33am Brendan:

This bed music always reminds me of a slowed down Strokin'
Avatar 10:33am Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am doctorjazz:

As Phil Schapp would say, Hawkins was nicknamed "Bean", which started as Best and Only, shortened to B and O, then to "Bean". If you were wondering...
Avatar 11:31am Joe McG:

Anybody know why they called Coleman Hawkins "Bean" when it's so obvious that he should be nicknamed "Hawk"? Eternal jazz puzzle.
  11:31am Bill from rock Tavern:

Hey Joe . got the week off and enjoying your show in it's entirety. Thanks for playing my favorite Magazine song " a Song From Under The Floorboards, which I have on a 12" as well as the original LP
Avatar 11:31am Joe McG:

Oh, you just answered me! Thanks, drjzz!
  11:31am Listener Robert:

Why not just download & play from hard disc?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Bronwyn Bishop:

I love this whole jazz set, thanks Joe :D
Avatar 11:32am Joe McG:

Hey Bill! Enjoy your week off, and thanks for making me part of it.
Avatar 11:33am Joe McG:

@Robert: DJs like to handle objects, but CD-Rs suck, as we all know. @Brownyn: I'm glad!
  11:34am Listener Robert:

This song explains why my new housemate doesn't want my washcloth hanging on the grab bar over the tub, because he might accidentally touch it.
  11:36am Listener Robert:

Joe McG, this is a serious question: Are there DJs there or at any station you know of who are strictly FJs (file jockeys)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Greg from ZONE 5:

Nat King Cole, all day every day.
Avatar 11:37am Joe McG:

@Robert: Yes, there are, but I won't out them. We'll probably all be there one day.
Avatar 11:37am βrian:

Love that muted horn yelp at the start.
Avatar 11:38am Joe McG:

@Greg: I should start playing him every week! Have you ever heard "After Midnight"? Amazing LP.
  11:40am Listener Robert:

I know file jockeying can be done very fast, because I've heard bits recorded from someone who does prank calls using clips of Arnold Schwarzenegger, putting them on as dictated by context. He has to react quickly & memorize by name which files say what.
  11:42am Listener Robert:

Either that or the whole bit is bogus, with the person supposedly on the other end of the line playing along and the whole thing edited.
Avatar 11:43am Joe McG:

@Robert: It's great if you're adept at it. If I were doing a show from a computer program, I would've probably shuffled some things around in a different order in certain places, but I like the excitement of dealing with LPs and CDs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Greg from ZONE 5:

@Joe: I have! Solid gold.
