wow I really love this (Formulars). new to me.
  11:17am Cal Zone!:

The could have really used Billy Preston.
  11:17am John mcg:

I love this Formulars song. The last time you played it, I ran right out and bought the compilation it's on. the other stuff on that cd is fine stuff as well. I wish there were more available by this band.
  11:20am Stuart Rose:

Yep, it's a good thing Paul and Ringo are not likely to get all lawyered up.
I was retrofitting the Beatles lyrics to the tune all the way through.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 11:23am Dano59:

Regarding the Q, now, you know there's only two kinds of people, Michael ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Jeezy:

Been a huge NRBQ fan for decades. My most trenchant memory would have to be seeing them play the quad at George Washington University when I was a freshman, about 1989. The band was clearly not pleased to be doing a show with many disinterested and clueless students wandering past and I was stunned that I could walk up to this legendary band and basically pitch requests. Probably not a high point of their career.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 11:23am Dano59:

"Those who love NRBQ, and those who haven't heard them yet."
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 11:25am Dano59:

Fan since '77 (Scraps/Workshop 2-LP, 'Get That Gasoline Blues' did it). Have almost everything, over 20 LPs and 20 CDs, plus 45s, live recordings, etc etc. WEnt to the 35th and 38th all-Q anniversary shows
  11:28am Baby:

Re: nrbq. Seen them many times. But the best time I saw them and the worst time, was on the same night. Two sets. One awful and one I'll never forget.
  11:29am Stuart Rose:

Heard of them in the late 70s- the Village Voice music ads always showed them playing at the Bottom Line or somewhere.
But I never heard them on the radio and, unlike punk, new wave bands I heard of and felt compelled to check out, they sounded like just a bar band. And then I got into bob brainen's show 3 years ago and first heard them,
  11:33am Baby:

Hey Tom. You sure know your stuff.
Avatar 11:35am Marc Francis:

@Tom: Please go away. Thanks.
Avatar 11:35am Michael Shelley:

Baby - do you really think this coward/troll's name is "Tom"?
Avatar 11:35am Michael Shelley:

He hates the show so much - he's been listening for 40 minutes!
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 11:36am Dano59:

it's the trolls' world, we only live in it.
  11:37am Kerouac movie:

That NRBQ song sounds like it influenced Phoenix' Liztomania. The French pop band.
Avatar 11:37am Mailman Tom:

I saw NRBQ perform twice. Each time they gave a great show. The band has been around for a long time. They actually played the Fillmore East in NYC 45 years ago!
Avatar 11:39am Marc Francis:

I've only ever heard of NRBQ via your show and Bob Brainen. I have no idea how they escaped me previous to that.
  11:41am Baby:

H me is Donald. If you know what I mean.
  11:41am Dennis Diken:

great show Mikey! Dave Amels and I had the extreme pleasure of producing the amazing Mr. King some years back. a class act in every sense!
  11:42am Baby:

His name is Donald. If you get my drift. I now am officially blind
  11:44am ed:

Neat,Nice: Terry once said it was the same chords except one as Take The A Train, didn't say which one was different. Every time I see sheet music for A Train the chords are different!
  11:47am Baby:

Baby. Flat Five??
  11:47am davefromtoronto:

that's such a beatles rip off!

i can't place which tune though...
  11:48am Jim Macnie:

Terry, can you describe what Klem brings to the party?
  11:50am Todd E:

Been living with the fab new box set since the day it came out. Seen them live around 25-30 times over the past 35 years. Please ask Terry if there are any plans for more archival live releases. While NRBQ made great albums, it was all about the shows. Lots of bootleg recordings in circulation, but would love a series of official releases. Dig your show, Michael, keep those #1 tunes coming!!!

Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:56am Frank Above:

  11:57am Listener Joe:

It's about time NRBQ gets the recognition they deserve. Thanks Michael for interviewing Terry
Avatar 12:09pm Uke Goldberg:

I saw NRBQ shortly after the bust at a free show in a park in Miami.
Avatar 12:10pm Uke Goldberg:

Everyone seemed to know why they had short hair.
Avatar 12:11pm Uke Goldberg:

Man, we loved their first album way back then!
  12:11pm Baby:

Ask Terry about the clavonette When he first discovered it. What he used before that?
Avatar 12:11pm Uke Goldberg:

Slim Harpo and Sun Ra on one disc!
  12:11pm WadeT:

What did they have in the barn? Buckets? gas cans? Barrels? Any HOOCH? Were these old farm houses?
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Uncle Michael:

Allman Brothers Live at Ludlow's garage is an official release.
12:13pm Michael from the Left Coast:

Ask Terry when the Magic Box began? And when did they start touring with their own piano (I imagine there were some horror stories about the pianos supplied by the venues before that)?
  12:13pm Bob:

Are there more archival releases coming?
12:16pm Michael from the Left Coast:

One more--ask Terry how many dates the Q did with John Sebastian (playing Spoonful tunes)? I remember they played Town Hall in NYC in the late seventies or early eighties for that show.
  12:23pm Todd E:

May 2-3, 1969 Fillmore East

Jeff Beck Group
Joe Cocker
  12:25pm BillyD:

That Fillmore story is one of the best RnR stories ever.
  12:25pm Topher:

Love all things 'Q'!! Soundtrack of my life. Best memories of multiple Thanksgiving weekend madness shows at Toads Place in New Haven, CT. Even got to open up for them there one night! See you in Piermont Terry!
  12:27pm Guy Walker:

Old Saybrook CT High School in the afternoon around 1PM NRBQ played in 1972 or '71?
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Cat:

might be my alltime favorite Terry solo
  12:30pm Guy Walker:

And ask Terry about the Sha-boo Inn, Weathersfield CT any New Year's Eve. bikers wrecked the place to James Montgomery and NRBQ.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Jeezy:

The funny thing about the 1989 show at GWU was I think Rounder Records had just re-released some of the early classic LPS and you had Pulse Magazine by Tower Records writing gushing pieces about the band, exposing them to a new generation of teen music lovers like myself at the time. So it was crazy to see the band mere months later right before our eyes!
  12:35pm Topher:

Terry slaps the crap outta that Clav! Nothing like it.
  12:36pm Ron force:

In 1976 I just moved to Cairo NY, that weekend this band I never heard of was playing at this log cabin bar in the hills about town. The Bar was named the Gayhead Sportsman Club. That Band was NRBQ. Best night of my life.
#1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Dubiousraves:
