Every show starts with the ’70s! We’ll rediscover forgotten rockers, revisit unfairly maligned disco beats and replay power-pop favorites. Next: plenty of new releases, occasional live bands and more. Don’t let the nickname confuse you.

Listener comments!

  9:03pm JakeGould:

Hey Evan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Holy man! Forgot about Paper Lace, the band from "Billy Don't Be a Hero" and "The Night Chicago Died."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm efd:

hey Jake, hey Ken! Yup, that Paper Lace!
  9:13pm JakeGould:

Fun “Paper Lace” trivia from my life. First 45 single I ever bought in my life as a kid when I was like 7 or 8 years old? “The Night Chicago Died.” Bought it from some teen gal who was having a yard-isa sale in front of her building in Brooklyn.

And what building was that? *drumroll* Trump Village! The housing project that our new President’s dad built in deep Brooklyn.

That is all.
  9:16pm Will:

I dug the Swingin Madisons, saw them play live back then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm melinda:

hello efd and folks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm efd:

hi melinda & Will! ditto on Swinging Madisons from me.
Avatar 9:26pm Listener Julian:

That last song was killer. I gotta go back and listen to that live set.
  9:31pm ice in Bklyn:

Yo EFD! Listening in with my oz mate and was like 'this is bliss n esso'
  9:37pm ToP TRUMPS!!:

Does this Evan ever shut up? What an annoying voice
  9:37pm ToP TRUMPS!!:

oh, there we go
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm efd:

@ice, not sure who bliss n esso are...?
Avatar 9:40pm herb.nyc:

On Joe Belock's recent show, he and Todd Abramson and Ira Kaplan spoke lovingly of Billy Miller. I no recall which of latter 2 said this- "they treated their business of Norton Records like a fanzine". Aww.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm efd:

I missed that show, unfortunately. Gonna have to check the archive.
  9:50pm JakeGould:

@EFD: They seem to be a hip hop band from Australia, so maybe @ice is referring to that “Lordz of Brooklyn” bed music. And oh… Mr. Kave of said band has just opened a bar/pizza/art space a few blocks away from me in Bay Ridge. Small world!
  9:52pm herb.nyc:

So jake, what's that Billy Miller nytimes obit link again?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm Power Papi:

  9:55pm herb.nyc:

Thanks jake!
  9:56pm JakeGould:

That wasn’t me. Thanks Power Papi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm melinda:

I like geraldine
  10:02pm herb.nyc:

Jake, my thx was for posting on Becky's show. (I'm smoove)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Cooh John:

JakeGould is great and everywhere. Always enjoy his comments.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm SeanG:

those 25th anniversary shows for Norton Records in 2011 were EPIC!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm Chop Scott:

Thanks EFD--you always make me feel better.
  10:10pm ice in Bklyn:

Really good set!
I know I've heard you tell who does your theme song, but..
do tell again please!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm efd:

@ice, it's by The Lordz Of Brooklyn - the song is called "Saturday Night," from the early '90s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm efd:

@Chop Scott, that's nice of you to say - thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm Barkevious Shabazz:

The outro of that Omni record was gloriously 80-81. Top notch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm efd:

I've been overlooking that Omni album, for no good reason. It's good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm Barkevious Shabazz:

The Ultimate Painting record kinda flew by me, but that track was real good too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm melinda:

nice to hear the airhorn again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm coelacanth:

greetings efd & funkettes
  10:42pm herb.nyc:

I read this fb thing by rock writer Gina Arnold- she was in Pixies dressing room and talking about the Legendary Stardust Cowboy w someone. 15" later she realizes she's talking w Bowie!!! ---- Eyelids and Terry Malts really good, and terrific Billy Miller related set
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm chris_in_space:

I miss Laura Cantrell's show on the Saturday afternoon FMU airwaves.
  10:47pm herb.nyc:

(1) is this a Laura C written song? So lovely. (2) did Laura open for Elvis C at NJPAC in Newark? I was there, bad memory.
  10:52pm herb.nyc:

Is Atmosphere covering a Laura C song????? I think she sang this at Monty Hall, w Michael Shelley opening, earlier this year. Maybe FMA has it.
Avatar 10:54pm Howard F:

Good evening, always a pleasure to come home to the EFD show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm efd:

thanks Howard, always a pleasure to have you listening!

@herb, that Laura C song was not written by her, but she pretty much makes it her own as far as I'm concerned. And the Atmosphere song was an Atmosphere song.
  11:00pm ice in Bklyn:

EFD thanx for reminding me. I find myself singing it variously thru the week
  11:08pm herb.nyc:

Thanks Mr Ed Funk Davies. And thanks again, Jake.
  11:08pm ice in Bklyn:

By the way, the Rhys Chatham show last week was Amazing!
I couldn't go to the Oneida + RC show over the weekend at the church, but I heard it was exceptional!
  11:09pm ice in Bklyn:

Exceptional if you're in to musical cults from Boston, that is..
Anyway, thx a lot for those tix last week..
  11:13pm herb.nyc:

Spk'ng of shows, I may see Ani DiFranco and comic Lizzie Winstead this w'end, at the ethical ctr. I expect Trump jokes, tho he has the last laugh. Alas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Drumpf hasn't even begun this. You can't say that yet!
...Major Stars bringing it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm efd:

@ice, glad you enjoyed that show!
  11:20pm herb.nyc:

Ain't it great to win tix from Evan, ice in B? I won New P and Stamey/Holsapple in the past. Thx Evan and wfmu, another reason we should support this station. (Who tuned into 7SD and Andy was giving away $100? Great show)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm melinda:

Thanks for the tunes, Ed. Goodnight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm efd:

thanks for listening melinda!
Avatar 11:32pm Lonious Monk:

ohayou from Tokyo.
happy to be able to listen to the show live now.
  11:32pm JakeGould:

The Goofy Dudes!
  11:33pm Stevel:

Wednesdays might be the best. My opinion, of course.

What a set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The Bloody Muse. Love 'em.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm efd:

@Stevel I can neither confirm nor rebuke your opinion.

@Lonius, happy to have you listening, live or otherwise! (you know what I mean)
Avatar 11:43pm northguineahills:

gotta go, thanks efd!
  11:46pm ice in Bklyn:

@herb yes, support it.
(The show was two weeks ago but seemed like last week!)
That was a good moody blues cut. Takes me back!
  11:50pm ice in Bklyn:
