hello matt and fellow freegans!
Avatar 9:07am northguineahills:

Always found it curious how Animal Collective sometimes could sound like this Robin Gibb.
Avatar 9:10am Mary Wing:

Sphere, the answer to your question is no. JM in the AM is still on the air until December 1st. Today is a Jewish holiday.
Avatar 9:13am northguineahills:

Ahhh, so we still get the JM in the AM contribution to the Silent Marathon.
  9:14am JakeGould:

Hey! You eat breakfast yet, Matt?
Avatar 9:14am Mary Wing:

Uh... no, NGH. No JMers were sent a solicitiation.

good to know i'll be able to resume financially contributing to FMU when the Zionist propaganda is off the air on December 1. and not a moment too soon...

13th Floor Elevators' 1st album - the 1st by anyone to call itself 'psychedelic' on the cover - just turned 50

@ausmanx: A 3 hour show 5 days a week that has supported this station and has not attempted to dictate other programming for 30+ years should not be treated with hate.

A Hoy.....Hoy!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am ausmanx:

it is not treated with hate Jake, but if you think i don't have a right to have an opinion about a program which seeks to normalise and apologise for a brutal apartheid regime, and choose to not support an organisation which gives airtime to those opinions, then you are seeking to suppress MY freedom of thought and action

Avatar 9:50am fred:

@ausmanx: I'm glad to read you'll support the station soon, though I doubt your support will make up for the threatening gap in WFMU's budget. I hope many people feel the way you do, and none of them will refuse to pledge because JM in the AM once was on the air here.

Avatar 9:55am Cecile:

Thank you. It's been that kind of year. I know you can completely relate.
  9:56am JakeGould:

That voice sounded like a middle eastern coffee shop owner schooling you on radio.
  9:56am JakeGould:

Hello Michele!
Avatar 9:56am the Canterbury wood-elf:

@ausmanx, @Jake I've also felt uncomfortable about supporting a station that gave 15hrs/week airtime for an unashamed apologist for ethnic cleansing. NS even did a live broadcast from the settlements in Hebron! His predecessor had Meir Kahane (*serious* hate-monger) in the studio...that was decades ago, but still. The line that JM was providing a service to "the Jewish community" is totally disingenous. I know many people in the wider Jewish community that would be *horrified* by JM in the AM's political leanings. It's been providing a service to the hardline pro-Zionist sector of the Jewish community. I'm glad it's leaving FMU, and it'll be interesting to see how this affects things financially (Can the station survive without it? We'll see...)
Avatar 10:00am Roberto:

An excellent gift it was! Certainly not garbage.
Avatar 10:00am Cecile:

you know, I hate to say this, but they could maybe not broadcast 24 hours if it comes to that.
Avatar 10:00am βrian:

Was there any kind of announcement re JM's leaving? Is there an officially acknowledged reason, that is, or what? I'm guessing it's not about spending more time with the family ...
Avatar 10:01am cee:

hear hear @ausmanx & @thecanterburywood-elf
Avatar 10:01am fred:

@Cecile: Indeed, maybe more than you know: I'll have heart surgery on 11/8. The good side of it is I have a clear path to not facing a Trump presidency, and WFMU is in my will (though that would probably barely buy a day for the station)
Avatar 10:03am Cecile:

Oh! Fred! Is there anything I can do to help? I have had family have it. It will be good in the long run, but it's really tough the first few months after.
Avatar 10:03am fred:

@βrian: I think I heard that the non-profit status of WFMU doesn't fit Nachum's plans for development of his network. Amicable parting, but scary for the station
  10:04am josh:

We can thank Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson for my reduced donation this time around, the scamps.
Avatar 10:04am βrian:

I did swing some moola WFMU's way, but various Blue candidates have accounted for the lion's share of my dispensable income. Now my savings are in tatters.
Avatar 10:05am Cecile:

scary for people outside of the station.
Avatar 10:05am thedunkel:

@Fred Good Luck with the surgery!!!
Avatar 10:06am βrian:

"When you caress my navel?" Say wha?
Avatar 10:07am fred:

@Cecile: I guess the most you can do is do your part to make sure the station is around when I recover. You would be doing that anyway, so I guess taking care of yourself is the best I can ask for
Avatar Garbaggio Tastemaker Marathon 2020 Swag For Life Member 10:08am Ken From Hyde Park:

@fred - I hope things turn out well for you. That reminds me that my aunt in her mid-80s recently had heart valve replacement surgery. I need to find out from my mom how it went.

@fred Sorry to hear about about your surgery. I wish there was something I could do besides play Don Felder every week :(
Avatar 10:23am fred:

How weird (hence fitting) that Don Felder is now the pulse of the station. As long as it goes, all is well
Avatar 10:24am βrian:

Maybe Don Felder @ 78 r.p.m.
Avatar 10:24am fred:

@Matt: well, maybe consider giving up the car stunts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I wonder if you divided the $2mil (or whatever it is) annual costs of FMU - & divided it by true regular Listeners / FMUvians - & divided that by 12 monthly automatic SwagFerLife payments - what that would come to.
Avatar 10:28am Cecile:

I'm kind of glad I have a meeting. This is not the greatest song.

Avatar 10:31am fred:

I takes some serious garbage to make someone glad to have a meeting. But one's garbage is someone else's treasure

One person's garbage is another person's treasure garbage
Avatar 10:34am fred:

@RRN63: I'm afraid there are not enough of us able to afford that much. I'm afraid WFMU liking is not correlated to wealth (at least not positively)

Good morning Matt; garbologists...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am common:

hello matt, people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@fred: There is the idea in Public Radio that if everyone listening gave a little, & equally, it would be easily solvent. FMU is another animal - & I wonder. I'm am candidly simply impoverished - & do the least allowable amount every month.
Point being: remember that Swag For Life - a certain smaller amount monthly automatically is an option - & gives FMU a reliable regular drip...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Matt ww:

Goooooooood mornin'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am coelacanth:

good point RR
Avatar 10:43am βrian:

But Public Radio has ads, whether one gives a little or a lot. That's the litmus test for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

True.
Plus people like the promo goodies of course - DJ comps &tc. That's major.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am coelacanth:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Matt ww:

At 15% of my goal. LETS GET IT TO 20%
Avatar 10:52am fred:

@RRN63: I know what you give is a lot to you. I haven't gone with Swag for Life because the bank fees would be too high for my taste. I'm happy to give around 10% of my income to the station, but banks are a different story. I wouldn't even be able to give as much unless I used a wire transfer, I'd have to get a more expensive card and still face high fees. I basically empty my account every marathon, so every dollar (or euro) counts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

HolySmokes Banshees was good.
  10:53am Brendan:

Mornin' Matt. Request permission to come aboard the Good Ship Garbage
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Matt ww:

Avatar 10:54am fred:

@Brendan: right in time for Don Felder too
Avatar 10:54am Cecile:

I gave very low four figures one year. I'm still trying to recover from that. I do what I can. Lots of funerals and hospital visits in the last couple of years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am coelacanth:

"the figurehead" really could've benefited from some echo.
Avatar 10:56am Cecile:

if it's the Necks, it's a triple album
Avatar 10:58am fred:

@coelacanth: They wouldn't even think of using that
Avatar 10:59am Cecile:

I do hope to get my act together and do a nice graphic for my social medias advertising the station.

I thought Kenny G was?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am Michele:

but I'M THE BAD BOY OF WFMU @Matt ww !
Avatar 11:02am βrian:

Avatar 11:02am fred:

If only more listeners in Europe showed up financially. The French are hopeless, though. No way you're getting one to pay for something they can get for free anyway
  11:02am JakeGould:

This "bad boy" issue can only be solved by a knife fight.
Avatar 11:02am Cecile:

you are the self-identified bad boy. Matt is the self-proclaimed one. There is a difference.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Matt ww:

But I'm the self-proclaimed Bad Boy of WFMU
Avatar 11:02am chromaphone:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Mister Dobalina:

Avatar 11:02am Cecile:

Kenny G is probably both.
Avatar 11:03am βrian:

WFMU en grève! Would that help?
Avatar 11:04am fred:

If Kenny G was to replace JM in the AM, would the NY area implode?
Avatar 11:05am Cecile:

WFMU would be burned down to the ground periodically.
Avatar 11:05am Cecile:

I love Kenny, but I would probably alternate rebuilding and pillaging the building if he were on 5 days a week.
Avatar 11:06am fred:

That would mean more fire resiliency than the current building seems capable of
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am coelacanth:

ALICE!!
  11:06am Brendan:

Avatar 11:08am Cecile:

Brian, me and my husband actually sang that before I went in for surgery once.
Avatar 11:09am βrian:

Avatar 11:10am Cecile:

fred, that is a very good point. He is a self-cannibalizing artist at times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am common:

i sang that a lot in my head after my surgery, cecile.
Avatar 11:10am fred:

@Cecile: with my "singing voice" (more like croaking) I will not use your trick. They'd be likely to put me out of misery on the spot
Avatar 11:10am Cecile:

common, the Ramones did have that universal appeal.
Avatar 11:12am Cecile:

they weren't in the room. My husband and I were going kind of stir crazy. I think if they would have heard us, they would have done that to us, too.
Avatar 11:13am βrian:

After my surgery, oh how I lauded Dilaudid!
Avatar 11:13am fred:

I was told I'd have a morphine pump after the surgery. That scares me almost as much as the surgery itself. A friend got in a bad addiction place from that
Avatar 11:15am Cecile:

fred, if you monitor it carefully, you should be OK. If you are in actual physical pain, painkillers will help you heal. It's just in the state afterward where you have to be very careful.
Avatar 11:16am βrian:

A friend with a broken leg was on a morphine drip. We were *amazed* that she still spoke at nearly 250 w.p.m. Wow.
  11:16am jim m:

I had surgery and I couldn't get Gang of Four's 'Paralyzed' out of my head, 'I was good at what I did'.
Avatar 11:18am βrian:

F**king gorgeous weather on the isthmus today, by the way. Blue skies, light breeze ...
Avatar 11:19am fred:

My plan is to only use it if I need it to sleep. But to paraphrase Tyson said, you only have a plan until you get punched in the face. I'm probably vulnerable to addiction, so I'm scared of this
Avatar 11:20am Cecile:

fred. Just take it minute by minute.
You will want to sleep a lot. But also painkillers make it possible for you to eat, drink and move around, all essential to recovery.
Avatar 11:21am Cecile:

I think it's good though that you are talking through your worries. That means you thought about it. And you'll be vigilant.
Avatar 11:23am βrian:

I would also suggest having a cat nearby. They've done wonders for me when recovering.
Avatar 11:23am V Priceless:

it should be noted that none other than R. Zimmerman said "I think Alice Cooper is an overlooked songwriter"!

Avatar 11:24am Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am common:

about the cat and the dilaudid
Avatar 11:25am Cecile:

and remember, with any physical therapy program, if it actually hurts you, you have to tell them that. They won't know if you don't tell them.
Avatar 11:26am Cecile:

you would think that last statement would be so obvious to people, but they are polite even in pain.
Avatar 11:27am fred:
