Avatar 12:04pm Nick S.:

Oh, man. Big sad on this one. Great song to start and has been in my head all morning.
Avatar 12:04pm Jshatan:

Damn, Rod Temperton now?? What is going on...
Avatar 12:05pm Shaun:

From Cleethorpes to the Duane Train.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Linda Lee:

thank you for playing this sweet soul music Duane! RIP Rod Temperton. thank you for bringing us joy.
Avatar 12:11pm PKNY:

Somber TZAG, Duane and -'iacs!

@Jshatan - unfortunately, it's called all of the legends getting older...gotta cherish the ones that are still here and out playing.
Avatar 12:11pm Jshatan:

MJ and Q's British secret weapon. For sure @PKNY - but 66 ain't that old!
  12:12pm Polyus:

It sounds bad to say I enjoy all these tribute sets, but I sure do appreciate them.Learned a whole lot I didn't know about Kashif last week. Same with Maurice White.
Avatar 12:13pm drewo:

The Groove Line never ends. Thanks for the tribute Duane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Oh, crud. Charles Bradley diagnosed with stomach cancer. I hope they caught it early. www.rollingstone.com...
  12:14pm Cecile:

Avatar 12:17pm PKNY:

Man, that's a bummer about Charles Bradley, the titans of Daptone are having a tough go of it lately.
  12:17pm Ari:

Not that she would necessarily find herself frequently featured on the Duane Train, but Caroline Crawley (of 4AD, This Mortal Coil and Shelleyan Orphan) also passed yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Duane, your show is totally making my day. It's a fine tribute to those that have passed, and it's just really good music, too.
Avatar 12:20pm βrian:

Say, I recognize that clapping ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm KRYPT:

Whoa! nearly missed the train there, HI Duane, hi groovers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm KRYPT:

Shoot I missed The Star of The Story, my fave 'wave, dang.
  12:25pm Cecile:

KRYPT! That was one of my first requests to Duane, back when he was still subbing.
Avatar 12:26pm kumar:

Ah man, Rod Temperton. Duane, I remember you calling him out in some Heatwave stories just a month or two ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Carmichael:

Heya Duane and passengers.
  12:27pm Cecile:

Joe got jazz, fusion and soul in the same song without the seams showing.
Avatar 12:28pm kumar:

damn, I didn't know he wrote Thriller
  12:29pm Cecile:

And PYT, the greatest roller skating jam.

  12:33pm Ari:

  12:34pm jack:

  12:34pm el B0-bO:

"Give me the night" informed my youth. RIP.
Avatar 12:35pm MenfussMike:

  12:36pm oks:

some of my favorite tunes ever!!!
  12:36pm el B0-bO:

Jeez, this one too? This is the soundtrack of my dancing craze days before break dance. I feel freakin old. Thanks for the music.
  12:40pm JtotheK:

Bummed out. But enjoying the tunes -- thanks for the tribute, Duane. Hi Trainers.
Avatar 12:40pm MenfussMike:

Price was on Alice Cooper's album in 1975
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Kat in Chicago:

Great story!
Avatar 12:43pm kumar:

Amazing story
  12:44pm DJ_Guy:

Damn I might need to Duane-spot this for my Halloween gigs
  12:44pm Mrs Price:

Great story Rod, but slightly embellished no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Webhamster Henry:

I love stories like that - basically confirming how much chance plays in success! I also like hearing individual tracks!
  12:45pm Mrs Price:

Vincent told me that he walked into the studio and found Quincy and Rod, half naked, surrounded by playboy bunnies.
Avatar 12:48pm kumar:

I'm kinda bummed Vincent didn't actually "rap" now
  12:49pm Mrs Price:

bummed, yes, thats the part i missed out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Carmichael:

Temperton also wrote Ya Mo B There? One of my least favorite of the bunch ... :)
  12:50pm Mrs Price:

Ya Mo B there was rejected by Barbara Streisand
  12:53pm Ari:

Mrs Price on a hot streak!
  12:54pm Mrs Price:

I'm here for the next half hour!
  12:56pm Mrs Price:

I wont be able to sleep tonight; thinking of Rod rotting inside his own corpse's shell. :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm alanr:

Duane is coming in loud and clear, here in ChilangoLand
Avatar 1:01pm CDToaster:

Rod Temperton's extended and informative Obit with photo of (pretty) wife:
Great article.
  1:03pm Mrs Price:

All joking aside; here's a story you wont find at the end of the CD re-issue of a Michael Jackson album: Every week, while working together in the studio, Rod & Quincy would hire a limo driver to drive them both to a nearby store, where they bought a copy of Billboard magazine so they could find out how Jackson's albums were doing in the charts. In those days it was the quickest way to find out. Can u imagine? Neither of them could drive, by the way.
Avatar 1:08pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Hello Duaniacs! Enjoying this trip down memory lane. Question, was Sweet Freedom on some soundtrack?
  1:08pm MONEYBAG$:

Now I want to watch the video for this song with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines
  1:09pm Mrs Price:

Running Scared
  1:12pm Ari:

Considering how huge so many of these tracks were (MJ, Benson, Heatwave, Bros J., Mike McD, James Ingram etc) , dude's writing credits must have made him an *extremely* wealthy guy...
  1:13pm Mrs Price:

Yes, which is why Kathy is now on the search for a hot, young, and tanned toyboy.
  1:16pm Mrs Price:

Hands up if u think Brendan P has butchered a classic song right here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm chris:

Brendan P, this edit is dope af, dude. smokin' hot!
  1:17pm robyn:

Morning train gang
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm chris:

sorry, Mrs. P.
Avatar 1:18pm Brian in UK:

Sad news about Rod T. What a talent.
Charles Bradley was due over here later this year, meant to get tickets then forgot.
Good work, Duane, shame you have to do it though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Ooh, I hear the harp of Boogie Nights!
Avatar 1:19pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Passaic River Blues:

I will always think of Mr. Paterfamilias, Big Daddy Kane.

Avatar 1:29pm Shaun:

Avatar 1:30pm Brian in UK:

There was another English band out the same time as Heatwave called Hi Tension. They supported Heatwave when I saw them. Good but, Heatwave were different class.

Hey up Shaun.
Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Mido:

Avatar 1:31pm Shaun:

Heyyy, Brian. Turning green here at your seeing Heatwave, Hi Tension.
Avatar 1:32pm Brian in UK:

Shaun. Hammersmith Odeon if memory serves. Always a good gig.
  1:33pm Mrs Price:

Heatwave could hardly be called English
Avatar 1:35pm Shaun:

Leave it, Price. We'll colonise anything.
Avatar 1:35pm Brian in UK:

Jimi Hendrix?
Avatar 1:37pm Shaun:

Honorary Geordie?
  1:37pm Mrs Price:

What an irony it would be tho. an English band called HEATWAVE!!!
  1:39pm Mrs Price:

The Village People rejected this song.
Avatar 1:40pm Brian in UK:

Now that's irony.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm rsj:

eddie stole these saxes for the boogie in your butt
Avatar 1:46pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

HAHA! "Face like Farah Faucett when they changed her nose. That's just the way it goes."
  1:49pm Mrs Price:

Farah Faucett appeared in the pilot for The Fall Guy, shortly after a bitter divorce from Lee Majors
  1:49pm Cecile:

Damn. Internet probs, now I'm back

  2:00pm Cecile:

PKNY Duane Train sweaters? Could we make em like Heatwave's?
  2:00pm Cecile:

Ahaha ha,
Avatar 2:00pm Duane:

Cecile: That's the idea..sweaters is too expensive, but t shirts is a definite possibility
Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Mido:

ha i would rock that so hard
Avatar 2:00pm PKNY:

@Duane - then I'd have to get a red shirt w/ a big collar so I can pull off the Keith look
  2:01pm Cecile:

Please tell me they're gonna be long-sleeved?
  2:01pm Cecile:

Sweaters for the big bucks people
Avatar 2:02pm PKNY:

The pic has gone dead on the Soulstrut thread, but someone *actually* had a Heatwave sweater made, and obviously got tons of props.
  2:06pm Cecile:

The crazy cop movie that had five minutes of fun in it.
  2:06pm JakeGould:

Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines on roller skates learning about the sunset.
