Avatar 9:18am Joe McG:

Thanks for reminding me, Guido: HEY, everybody, please give us money this month if you can! We're doing the year-end Help-a-thon. (And PayPal is a fine way to go if you are living outside of the U.S.....)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am Guido from Cologne:

the paypal-option is missin in the form!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am fred:

Good morning Joe and everyone. I like this Julius Eastman piece. It reminds me a little of Steve Reich, who turns 80 today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am melinda:

I was thinking that too, fred. I like it.
Avatar 9:23am Sem Chumbo:

I've always liked this one.
Good morning, Joe, and Clan McGasko.
Avatar 9:23am Joe McG:

@Guido: Oopsie! If you're not doing a monthly pledge, it should work. I'll check on it after the program.
Avatar 9:29am Joe McG:

@fred: Thanks for the birthday info re: Mr. Reich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Listener Scott:

I feel like this song might end with Martin Sheen putting a sword through Marlon Brando's neck
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am DonJuanTijuana:

Hey Joe, I hate to pester about this, but it's October and I haven't seen anything from the March Marathon. I figured with a Mouse pledge, something would have shown up by now. Can you please let me know if I was omitted from the mailouts?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Guido from Cologne:

my swag is @ the customs right now.
Cheri Pi just recieved her's.

Holiday in Germany.
Even Sunn right now.
Sitting on the balcony.
Avatar 9:54am Joe McG:

What holiday is it over there, Guido?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Brian in UK:

@Guido beautiful sunny day over here. 'We're in God's pocket' to quote one of the characters in Ken Kesey's Sometimes a Great Notion.
Avatar 9:59am βrian:

It's a beautiful day on the isthmus.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Mike East:

Sounding great, Joe! I'm feeling optimistic this Monday.
Avatar 10:13am βrian:

Monday comes on little cinder blocks
It squats indifferently
over harbor and city
on senescent haunches
and then schleps on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am Guido from Cologne:

But anyway:
finally i happen to love the new Angel Olsen album, which took some time.
Avatar 10:13am digiclam:

Hey Joe! What was the classy instrumental background track you played on the break?
Avatar 10:15am Joe McG:

@digiclam: That's the great Art Van Damme playing "Early Autumn."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Greg from ZONE 5:

Yo Joe!
Avatar 10:16am Roberto:

I have to admit the first time I saw the Weird Al video I thought, did he actually change any of the lyrics?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Parq:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Ken From Hyde Park:

I am today throwing my support behind the campaign for President Weid Al.
Avatar 10:20am Joe McG:

Poor Lamont.
Avatar 10:20am βrian:

I'll have a glass of that strawberry pipple.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Ike:

Great to hear Weird Al here. I don't think I ever heard *anybody* play him on FMU in the 90s. Maybe he was just tres uncool back then. He's aged like a fine wine... cooler.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am rsj:

my briefly affiliated fraternity always had a sanford and sons party about this time of year....complete with yard full of trash, which was pretty fitting.
Avatar 10:21am Roberto:

I work with someone named Lamonte. I often refer to him as "that big dummy" but most folks at the office are too young to get the reference.
Avatar 10:22am Joe McG:

@Roberto: Ha ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Brian in UK:

Who Loves the Sun would be appropriate today. Did anyone apart from VU ever record it?
Avatar 10:26am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 10:26am βrian:

Who hasn't been to Kalamazoo?
Avatar 10:27am Rev. Turnip Druid:

I can say I've never been to a clam zoo. Sounds a bit dull, to be honest.
Avatar 10:28am Rev. Turnip Druid:

ALSO: missed the MV Jakobsons piece. Just got that one, it's freaking lovely.
Avatar 10:28am Joe McG:

Clam zoos are only in New England.
  10:29am Brendan:

Brownsville Station is from Michigan
Avatar 10:29am βrian:

It is a bit dull, though it has its charms. And it has one of the best breweries in the world.
  10:29am Brendan:

Do the have a zoo
Avatar 10:30am Wild Neil:

PEACE all...I learned on Catholic Radio (while cleaning the garage) that to say "Michael Cain" correctly you need to say "My Cocaine"...still looking for work....and Engineer out of work...anyone looking for a Mechanical Engineer near Buffalo, NY??
  10:30am Brendan:

They (kalamazoo that is)
Avatar 10:30am βrian:

No luck in Lockport, Wild Neil?
Avatar 10:31am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Kalamazoo = far superior to any clam zoo I can think of. Mollusc motels have their charms, though.
Swag For Life Member 10:32am tadpoles:

@Brian in UK .... not sure about "Who Loves the Sun" but Luna have a great version on "Ride into the Sun".

Hi Joe!
Avatar 10:32am Rev. Turnip Druid:

whoa, flashback. Haven't been near Buffalo since that infamous Sisters of Mercy / Public Enemy tour gig, early 1990s...
Avatar 10:32am βrian:

Weird Al should really have a go at the Gal song.
  10:33am Brendan:

Dont forget Bun E
  10:33am james:

love a frosty reference on a monday morning!!!!
  10:33am V Priceless:

Freddie Kaboodleschnitzer, Skyhooks!
  10:34am JakeGould:

Aunt Esther
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Brian in UK:

Sanford & Son a takeoff of Steptoe & Son over here.
Avatar 10:34am Wild Neil:

@Brian-not yet...waiting for colleagues to write letters of reference...ah yes the substituting gig...some part of me wants to engage the youth of today in political debate and media awarness training against propaganda...why I don't know...
Swag For Life Member 10:36am tadpoles:

Steptoe! Paul's grandfather!
  10:37am JakeGould:

FWIW, I binge watched 3 full seasons of Sanford an Son a year or so back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Brian in UK:

Steptoe was a thoroughly morose sit com.
  10:37am JakeGould:

Yes that was crazy. But I learned my lesson: Esther is so ugly.
Avatar 10:37am bobdoesthings:

every groove is locked!??!
Avatar 10:38am this guy:

that was pretty dope tho
  10:38am Brendan:

Get in a groove (or a rut)
Avatar 10:38am bobdoesthings:

chyea' fam, tight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am Ike:

@Wild Neil, I hope you would try to be nonpartisan with that media awareness training, as I would try to be. I've long believed that the brats need to be taught to be skeptical of consumerism and commercials so that they don't get too materialistic, or at least so that they don't blow all their cash on rubbish and all go into debt.
Avatar 10:39am Joe McG:

Hey Brian UK! @Brendan: I pride myself on smooth starts to Single File every week.
Avatar 10:40am βrian:

Single file *could* just be one very large aiff file. Those tend not to skip, though one misses the slap of the record dropping onto the platter.
Avatar 10:42am Joe McG:

I'm curious to see how far into the record it skips. Played fine at home. Maybe at the end!
Avatar 10:43am bobdoesthings:

@joe - was the song you meant to play 'Rain Forest' ? - if not what was the other side?
  10:43am Brendan:

One of the exciting aspects of vinyl. I always have a moment of trepidation when i pull an irreplaceable record out of mothballs.
Avatar 10:43am Joe McG:

@bob: Yup! You must play a heckuva game of name that tune~!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Brian in UK:

@Brendan you probably know every note of the irreplaceable record anyway.
Avatar 10:45am bobdoesthings:

@joe - discogs and youtube
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Ken From Hyde Park:

I thought one of the best S & S gags was when Fred admitted he sneaked into Elizabeth's house at night, the second room on the left (or right) and Esther exclaimed "That was my room!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Brian in UK:

Is Trivial Pursuit played anymore?
Avatar 10:47am Joe McG:

@bobdt: You just gave your game away.
Avatar 10:49am βrian:

Can Betty Carter be far behind?
Avatar 10:51am Joe McG:

@Brian: That's such a great duet LP.
  10:51am Brendan:

@Brian in the UK, maybe but I wouldn't pay to hear me sing or play. Thanks to the miracle of alcohol, i try to kill the part of my brain that remembers the sound of my singing voice
Avatar 10:52am Wild Neil:

@Ike-I would try to be fair and balanced for sure about media BS....I always remember the quote about yellow journalism and Hearst during the Spanish civil War"We will MAKE it news" or some such thing...and the depiction of how prohibition never works against alcohol...and let them draw their own conclusions about weed, coke, etc....by the way, having read Dave Ramsey's total money makeover would consel them to NEVER NO NEVER get a CREDIT CARD because that leads to debt slavery...
Also, just listened to Miles Davis Kind of Blue from libarary...WOWOW I want to get more Jazz classics from the library,....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Greg from ZONE 5:

Kicked off Shocktober yesterday with Society (1989), Hellraiser and Hellraiser II.

(@Joe McG: Please never watch Society, Hellraiser, or Hellraiser II under any circumstances)
Avatar 10:53am βrian:

Take the wine into the shower and sing your heart out.
Avatar 10:54am Joe McG:

@Greg: Thank you for that advice. I think those may be the bottom three on the list of movies I plan to see in my lifetime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am Guido from Cologne:

OMG! Susie! Hahyahaha ...
... huge hit over here.
Avatar 10:57am Wild Neil:

@Joe...along with "The Human Caterpillar", right Joe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am Ike:

I got a good credit score by getting a credit card when I was young and being VERY careful w/it, but some can't handle it. I treated it like cash. And... Joe McG is singing about the turntable! HA! This is great! And then grunting! Ha! Love it! What was I saying?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am Guido from Cologne:

the single sounds thin anyway.
never mind turntable 3, 4 or 5
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Brian in UK:

@Guido you could almost carbon date this song.
Avatar 10:59am Joe McG:

@Guido: I especially hate turntable #5.
Avatar 11:00am Whosondephone:

what do you call this type of music?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am Guido from Cologne:

aaah ... this is pre Brinsley Schwarz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am Greg from ZONE 5:

@Wild Neil: Human Centipede! Human Caterpillar sounds like a fun sleepover game.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am Brian in UK:

@Joe ....so when does Singles Going Steady commence?
Avatar 11:01am Joe McG:

@Brian: That's the last full week of October. I think it starts on the 24th.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Ken From Hyde Park:

By the way, Singles Going Steady Week is coming up later this month, isn't it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am pantz:

Abbot of the Vale? Costello of the Heath.
Avatar 11:03am Joe McG:

@pantz: That's the sequel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am pantz:

They really should have done a Wuthering Heights themed movie. They met all of the Warner Bros monsters after all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am Guido from Cologne:

  11:13am Brendan:

Pennies on the tone arm ?
  11:14am Brendan:

I picture a car trying to shake Mannix off their windshield with this cool bed music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am Parq:

Picking random records and putting them on the air without previewing them -- what could possibly go wrong?
Avatar 11:19am Joe McG:

@Parq: We'll find out! :) @Guido: Thanks for the correction!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am Lewis:

OK - i clicks-starred this one simply for the name. The music is pretty good too...
Avatar 11:20am bobdoesthings:

this is great!
Avatar 11:21am Joe McG:

@Lewis: Wait till he starts singing!
  11:21am JakeGould:

@Joe: Playing random records is an excellent idea! Look forward to hearing that again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Passaic River Blues:

I liked that rando session from your show with Michelle. Pumped for next week!
Avatar 11:23am Joe McG:

@Passaic: Yes, I think it will be fun! I'm going to see if I can pull in a couple of other people to pull some records, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am pantz:

Women really are great. Thanks Shango Dance Band and Joe.
Avatar 11:28am bobdoesthings:

Yeah, I wasn't sure till I heard this song, but yeah, women are pretty great.
  11:30am Brendan:

His follow up to the Women Are Great was a cover of Lola...
Avatar 11:33am Joe McG:

@Brendan: I thought it was "All Men Are Liars."
Avatar 11:34am bobdoesthings:

little nod to 'fur elise'
